In: Jetta, Hutchings
Out: Bennell, Nelson

I liked the look of Bennell up forward more than I thought I would but still think Jetta and Hill are miles ahead. Not sure how we fit everyone if we keep Bennell on the list as well. Possible given Jetta and Hill might both rotate out of the forward line but still think unlikely. Not sure if Bennell as a possible defender (with Wellers out) impacts his selection - could be a positive or a negative thing (leaning negative slightly myself).

I like Nelson but not sure he is ready for big games like the Hawks yet. Keep Ellis because he is a little more versatile. Keep Butler over both Ellis and Nelson because he is a better kick, more accountable defender, and performed far better up against Hawthorn (and other big games) last year. What we really need though is another Wellingham. Cole perhaps (next year I am talking)? I've gone a bit cold on the idea of Jetta playing off half back, but maybe that's the best short-term solution for us?
I dont think bennell is clean enough or composed enough to play in defence. He was decent at being a lockdown in 2014 but 2015 he struggled. He looks awesome and has that line breaking speed that we want from a forward. I will still have nelson in but he will probs be the one that goes out.
Against seeming popular opinion, I have no interest in selecting Hutchings. One of Ellis, Butler or Nelson should make way for Jetta.
I want hutchings in even tho he hasnt set WAFL alight. I think winingn the contested ball is really important against the hawks and his big body and hunger for the footy is what we need in that sense.

Not sure why there is such a rush to get Hutchings into the side, because he looked ok but a bit rusty on the weekend for EP.

We cant afford a fumbling player against The Hawkes , so maybe another week at EP. I am not anti him coming into the starting 22 but for mine he needs to show a lot more composure that he did on the weekend. He did improve last season but he needs to earn his spot in the starting 22.

Jetta.... if genuinely 100% fit comes in for Ellis.

Bennell is not my favourite player but he was OK tonight.

I don't want Nelson dropped because the sooner we get 65 games into him the sooner we are going to have a tough and committed B+ player on our hands.
In time I believe he will become a very productive midfielder.

IMO after another half dozen WAFL games Tom Cole will be seriously knocking on the match committees door.

I think it's just one guy...I agree with you, Hutchings is good depth but that's it.
I'd prefer Butler or Ellis to drop out of the team for Jetta but I think the match committee goes with Nelson

Cole will be a very good pick up, has the speed, composure, skills and the heart/thirst for the contest. Not too many players have all those attributes.if we develop him correctly, he will be elite player rebounding off half back. I was really impressed with his first half on the weekened and like you, i can see him playing a few games this year.

Simmo in his presser declared masto is a chance for next week but i doubt they will rush him into a big game with no games under his belt. Round 3/4 will be his realistic return.

Assuming we get Jetta and Masten back in the next couple of weeks who gets dropped? I reckon Nelson (would prefer Butler or Ellis but I don't think Simmo will drop either unless injured) and Bennell.

I have a feeling its going to be Bennell out for Jetta. His game was fine but he would have been one of the last guys picked for todays game. There is no room in our forward line as it is. He is surplus. Jetta provides a midfield option.

As for Ellis and Butler, one of them will be displaced when Wellingham returns

well if bennell and nelson keep on impressing, simmo might have to cut his favourite in ellis. Ellis was disappointing today and butler was marginally better. I rekon nelson is the easiest bloke to drop.

Yeh, I agree completely, if it was me Ellis and Butler would be the first out, just don't think Simmo will do it

Bennell was good, especially early.
Ellis should go for Jetta.
Disagree, both were good.. Jetta needs to come in if fit, but Ellis provided really great support off the ball and Bennell was all over the place creating space.
Troubling (well not really lol) when you are looking hard to fit Lewie in.

yeah it frustrates me a bit, because ellis is close to becoming a liability and butlers best is rarely sighted these day. Im open to keeping one of them in as we still have experience then. I prefer butler as he does provide that willey vetren feel to the defence. Simpson should be ballsy and drop ellis. it might even be the wake up call he needs.

Ceglar out for the Hawks today, back spasms. It's going to be tough for them to counter NicNat if he's not 100% for next week.

Gee I hope we don't throw Hutch or Masten back for this game. Just Jetta please! Think Nelson will be the unlucky one, as there's lots of development he can still make in the WAFL compared to either Ellis or Butler.

I think Hutch needs a few more games in the Wafl, we have Priddis, Shuey, Redden and Yeo that can win the contested ball

In Jetta (if hes right, otherwise no change)
Out Butler or Ellis

Bennell played a really good game up forward, he may have found his spot. Give Nelson first crack at Cyril, he defends/competes really well on the little fellas and he couldnt do any worse than anyone that played on Cyril in the GF, need to keep him on the leash to win.

Yep, I just don't think Ellis has the skills and ability we need in our starting 22. He's good depth, the kind of player you'd like to have as your 25th or 26th player to call on. I kind of think he is though, when you consider that we have Jetta, Wellingham, Sheed and Masten to come back in. Assuming a fully fit 22 I reckon Butler and Ellis come out for Jetta and Wellingham, and then Sheed and Masten come in for Nelson and Bennell. Granted we'll likely never have a fully fit starting 22.

Which one of those players plays the small forward role Bennell has been playing? I don't think both Masten and Jetta play with a fully fit midfield

Who was playing Bennell's small forward role last year? Because he sure as hell wasn't.
I'd imagine Lecras would go back to a full time forward role, so it would look something like
Resting ruck/Gov - Kennedy - Hill
Lecras - Darling - Yeo/resting mid

+Cripps?

Yeh....forgot about him, so there's even less room for Bennell in a fully fit side
Yep I know. People getting bent out of shape about the possibility of dropping Bennell but we are just so stacked in the forward line. Unless some of our small forwards become mids this year or we play an extra forward than we did last year I just don't know how everyone fits. Some people seem to want a 9 person forward line:

HF Yeo Darling LeCras
QF Hill McGovern Cripps
F Bennell Kennedy Lycett/NicNat

Yeah, who needs a defence?

Just don't see how Jetta is a like-for-like replacement for Ellis/Nelson. Unless he's playing a much more accountable role which potentially negates his attacking value? Bennell was good but not amazing and I think he's clearly the most suitable player to drop out.

Nelson is shaping to be an important future player for us, he's shown composure and hunger for the contest and we should be pumping games into him. Worth noting as well that Ellis has been rotated on-ball, which gives you some idea of how Simmo views his versatility.

Haha Quarter Forward I'm assuming? Exactly, Bennell is the odd man out there, all the rest will likely play forward at some point in games. Rotate McGovern and the ruckmen through the backline/bench, rotate Yeo, Lecras and Cripps through the middle as well. Clearly no room for Bennell in a fully fit side.

And how did that go in the grand final? You can't go with the same system and expect a different result
