Any chance well see Taila go to gunston and otten to Roughead.
At first glance i thought this was silly but you know what, it may have some merit.

Otten has done his best work lately on genuine talls, not flanker types.

Gunston is just as big a threat as Roughead, is in amazing form, and like all 3rd tall types may struggle when matched up against a quality key defender who can still match him for agility.

Calls fior Pods to be dropped again...kicked 3 goals this week.....who do they drop him for? the forward set up seems to be working ok...just kicked 20 goals after all and kicked enough goals to beat Port the previous week but yeah lets change things now we're winning.....sigh

3 goals against GWS.

Working ok? How are Tex and JJ going lately?

We beat Port because a few key players dominated and played out of their skin - we can't rely on that.

So dropping Pods is not the answer, dropping Tex is. People need to get over the whole 'he wont play in our next flag' stuff. Half our team won't, so do we drop them ?? Of our 3 talls Walker is currently our biggest liability.

I know all you Pods haters cant see it but its the truth. The guy has provided more than Tex at this stage and whilst he will get better he does need to be managed.

I would like to see Hendo on Gunston.
I would be surprised if either Thommo or Rutten get up next week.
Does L Thompson get another go ? Or do we bring in Hartigan ?
It would be interesting if Danger doesn't come up either.

Do u even want to win this game?
Yeah I do, Tex has been ordinary and Thommo looks injured and on 6 days I think he will struggle. Cant afford to carry too many guys not fully fit

Fwd set up works ok? Pods and tex kicked 3 between them against gws. Our fwd set up is not working, we're sacrificing Tex's space so a 31yo delistee with no future can get a game. Who was our 3rd tall when we were a kick away from a gf in 2012? I'm not completely against 3 talls, but the quality needs to be there and they need to be well-drilled by a good fwd coach. As soon as they clutter each other's space they bring their opponent to the contest and it's easy to kill.

You may say it's working well, I'd say it would work better with a fit and developing Cameron or running with another midfielder such as m crouch. Would certainly be setting us up better for 2015. And let's not forget that pods avges about 2 possessions more this year than smack last year. He's hardly a dominant force and has as much licence as smack to collect stats throughout midfield or defence.

Pods has been serviceable this year. He was also put in the brain dead situation against Carlton down back after we subbed our AA defender, which was not his fault

But this forward set up is doing ok at the moment. Plus we can stretch the Hawks defence something fierce!

What tall defenders will the Hawks have this week?

Assuming Lake gets a holiday for his choking of Petrie, the only tall defenders they'll have is Spangher and Schoenmakers. We'll have Tex, Pods and JJ to stretch them

The other thing we need to watch out for is their run off HB. Bourgoyne, Mitchell and Litherland (who is very quick and has a booming kick) plus Smith on the wing, means we need to be switched on from the get go

If Truck doesn't come up, I would bring in LT for him. Played wel against Port and was awesome in the 2012 PF

If Thommo doesn't come up, Lyons in to play his natural spot as a clearance machine. But reckon they might make it the Crouch show after junior's blistering game in the magoos

BIG game. Really wish the Hawks had won last week, but we can win it if we continue in the same vein as last week

His football smarts are well above Smacks and his touches are a lot more valuable. I still hold out hope for the young guy though, not sure why........

For mine Walker goes out if we are gonna change the structure. I see peoples reasoning behind it and IMO its not a bad idea when Cameron comes back. I think its great we actually HAVE options rather than slapping together a few forwards like last year.

After a 10+ goal win with 40 scoring shots I can't see our coaches changing our structure

Even though Tex had a bit of a "Barry Crocker" the good thing about our current structure is that we now have 4-5 dangerous forwards who as a collective get the job done.

To kick 20 goals with virtually no contribution from Tex is a vote of confidence from me

Disagree with people, no way unless injured we leave Tex out.. He is our spiritual leader, provides some mongrel and will be proud enough to respond after an ordinary day. Lets be honest to, the delivery and swirly conditions weren't great.

I will back him in lift in a big game against a team he normally plays well against, and against a team that has a DECIMATED backline.

Cmon guys think about it here....

Friday night, first time since the Jarmans we've had brothers play together against the top side. Marketing writes itself...... which our club needs all the help it can get.

Danger pretty proppy at the airport just now...
That's Danger after every match! The only boy that was moving ok the morning after the brisbane game last year was Talia and did he ever get shit heaped on him for not working hard enough! Danger could manage just a shuffle then and he wasn't injured. I remember commenting in here how I'd never realised how much they give of themselves in a game. To see them all moving around like little old men really hit that point home to me. Not saying he is not proppy from the injury, but he is normally like that after a match.

Having picked him for the goal kicking game and him kicking a big fat zero, I have no doubt he will kick six next week. :D

We should go into this week with confidence as the Hawks don't exactly have a great away record against us, 2008 and 2013 are the only wins I can recall and I don't believe this hawks side is as good as last year especially considering Cyril and Gibson are missing and Hill and Lake are at this stage in some doubt

I've watched the Hawks closely in recent weeks and can't believe that Hale is keeping McEnvoy out of the side, Hale's credits should have well and truly expired and us actually becoming a liability to the team

The other point of difference in this side is there lack of depth players like Duryea and Ross at this stage seem a long way off AFL standard and premiership players like Suckling who has been poorly out of form is keeping his spot because of what seems to be a lack of AFL ready players coming through

as much as martin has been good we need kerridge in to tag one of hawthorns gun mids for someone.. possibly l.thompson vs gunston hence coming in for truck. hopefully s.thompson gets up coz we need him otherwise obvious replacement is matt crouch. i would say matt crouch in for someone regardless but not sure who
I agree if kerridge were available but he is out for a while injured.

Stretching the Hawks down back and Speed are the areas we need to look to try and expose the Hawks

If Lake joins Gibson on the sideline I will be praying for a fine and dry night because it's difficult to see how the Hawks can match up on our 3 tall forwards

If Hill misses this would be another huge blow.... Cyril, Hill and Smith are the trio that gives them some speed through the middle, if Hill and Cyril are missing we need to put speed on the game with the likes of Smith, DMac, Hendo, Douglas and Matty J

Our draw is ok - Hawks in Adelaide, Collingwood and North away (all winnable) and then we have 4 games we should win (three at home and one in Brisbane). We should be 12 wins and win next week then we are odds on to make it.

Personally I reckon we will win 14.
Most importantly the destination is in our own hands. If we make it, we will be in form & deserving. If we miss, another team was more deserving & in better form. Good test for the playing group as little margin for slip ups.

I would try Laird on Mitchell, especially Mitchell doesn't really push forward that often

However if Hill comes in I would move Laird to Hill and get the likes of Danger and Thompson to work Mitchell over

It will be interesting to see how Mitchell pulls up, like Thompson he copped a heavy knock very late in the game

I think people have taken such a firm position on Podsiadly that they are now ubable to admit how wrong they've been. Structurally Pods has been massive. Those that need to read the paper the following day to work out who played well will never understand his value based on stats and supercoach points. Given Tex's current state of uncompetitiveness our forward line would be getting slaughtered by the opposition tall defenders. Crashing packs, bringing the ball to ground, competing for the high ball, defensive spoils dont appear in the stats that many rely on to measure Podsiadly's worth. Nope he probably wont play in our next Grand Final, but writing off the current for what may or may not happen in the future is rather idealistic and rarely the culture of professional sporting organisations.

Great post.....

JPod is not only kicking goals he also takes an enormous amount of pressure to perform at his best early in comeback

At the moment the structure is working and I'll take 40 shots at goal every week

Pods is playing okay. Apart from the grunt work he does in the forward line, he drifts back and often takes timely marks to repel attacks--especially in last quarters. I dunno about Tex. My feeling after yesterday's game was that he should go back to the twos and find confidence/touch. Now I'm not so sure. Hawthorn's backs will be seriously stretched against our forward line height, and it is possible that Tex is just one good game from getting back his touch.

No, pods is going ok at the expense of a better structure and the performances of tex, jj and lynch. Quite a few of you are blinded by viewing him in isolation as opposed to how the forward line system is working. 7 shots from our 3 prong tall attack is a very skinny return. Our fwd line can be a lot better both offensively and defensively by removing pods.
