i said he was?
Sorry missed that bit.

Pods also useful dropping in defence when we need to slow things down.

Think the structure is ok as only 2 not that mobile but they can roam if need be.

Hawks won last year's flag with buddy, roughy, hale & gunston as forwards.

Sydney are this year's flag favourites & play buddy, Reid, tippett & goodes.

Crows' forward structure of tex, pods, jj & lynch similar.

Would there be all this noise if tex was in his best form?

Aside from Hale, all of those players are better than Pods and Jenkins, and some are better than Tex - I don't think it's a valid comparison.

Our biggest issue this year has been teams getting on the outside, our zone falling apart, and us being carved up as a result.

I'm convinced it's because we are carrying one, possibly even two, too many talls. I'd go without Pods, and I'd consider only playing either Otten/Hartigan based on matchups.

We need more run through the middle - both offensively, but especially, defensively.

But pods is doing such an admirable job:rolleyes:

Thats the AFC for you, accepting mediocrity, and pumping games into 32 year olds

Accepting mediocrity is the phase used when there is no more to add so a strawman is thrown up.

Goodes is 34 and helped Sydney win. Age is irrelevant, it's performance and ability. You say Reilly should be an in, however he is about Pods age and adds less to the team than Pods.

And Pods actually adds defensive pressure, Tex does not. Its like its a crime to drop Tex, its not. The guys struggling and he doesnt deserve his spot in the 22. I get the structure call but its not all about the future, some of us want the now and if we are to change the structure which is a very valid point, Tex has to be the one.

Again, clubs have older players running around all the time we arent the only ones. What I will say however is that our best performances this year have come with the current setup.

Since Tex has come back...

Tex vs Pods
Possessions: 120 vs 120
Marks: 48 vs 56
Score: 12.11 vs 9.4
Tackles: 15 vs 14
I50's: 28 vs 24

And he's done it coming off a 12 month injury and plays against the better defender every week.

So let's calm down on the "if anyone gets dropped, it's Walker" talk. It isn't.

No doubt Tex has had 1 or 2 games, those figures point that out. But for mine IF we are to change it up, and im not convinced we need to, then he is the one at this stage. 2-3 weeks down the track that may not be the case though.

Right now we stay as is. Since they've both played we have been alot better up forward. Add Charlie and it looks more potent again.

I love it when the facts are on my side ;)

Take GWS out, and Pods only has six goals.

Shorty; I would've dropped Pods this week, made Tex the main man again.
Hardly, what it tells you is Tex beat up on the Suns. He is struggling big time, take the blinkers off FFS

He doesn't deserve it, but those so hell bent on changing a winning structure would see a tall dropped. The last 2 weeks Tex has been ordinary so it WOULD be him. I still maintain having Pods there is making it easier.

I say persist until it becomes obvious it wont work, currently im not convinced either way but lets just see.

My dad and I were arguing on Friday night about Pods. This was before the match where I said I would drop Pods. I wont now as he played well but i argued the point that you cant play all four of Pods, Tex JJ and Lynchy. He said we need Pods as hes the only one of the 4 who can stand in a pack and take a mark. Ala Tippett. After thinking about it some more I think hes right. Tex doesnt do it, JJ doesnt and Lynchy is a flanker/wing type.

There are probably 3 players in the comp who can pack mark like Tippett - Pods isn't one of them.

Suns are a lot better than GWS?

I do agree Tex is struggle a bit though. I think it's in part due to him returning, and in part due to the extra tall being an issue.

Ultimately we've got four of them doing the job three of them should be doing.

That can only leave us short changed elsewhere.

I know we've won the last two weeks but I worry that if the Hawks get their running game going we will look ultra slow and they'll ping off half back with ease.

Pods has definitely been passable at best. We have more POTENTIAL to do better by replacing him with a mid I believe.

My pick is M Crouch as I believe he'll also be passable at worst.

Suns were also missing their best KPD. I think our talls work because they each bring something different. Tex brings the X factor and the mongrel, JJ can ruck (sort of) and has freakish abilities, Lynch plays almost like a wing/mid with enormous endurance, and Pods is one of the best readers of a game going round, and is the only one who can take a pack mark.

Hopefully Tex can find form and JJ uses his size like he should, then theres no need for Pods. However I do hope that once finals are done he should go and we find another structure that works.

Have you compared the time each payer has had in the forward 50 with the time the player has had in the back fifty?
I also believe that Tex has had as many, if not more, balls directed at him than have been directed at Pods. The problem I have seen is that Pods has been able to grab/mark more of them. Since you are so good at stats, can you compare the marks make by both players, and in which area?

Hawks are not a quick side particularly if hill & rioli are out.

Hawks Achilles is their key defenders which we could really take advantage with lakes brain fade.

the hawks haven't looked this vulnerable for many a year, simply must take them this week...
their depth is being severely tested at the moment, and surely Lake will be rested this week by the MRP as well...
I think the qn is can we bring it?

Facts are on your side however with that said you can't take the GWS game out

The sample size is what it is

If we beat the hawks and pies - he stays in.

If we lose one or both, it's season over and J-Pod has to come out and we look towards next year.
