Yeah but also there’s the aspect that he is a young guy who hopefully has a higher ceiling than those two
Are we rebuilding? We are now 3-3 with a fairly nice run coming why would we prioritise playing an out of form player because he is young? If that is the case drop Keath for Busslinger

Obviously football isn't won and lost on paper however when Ward vs Baz is the best match up for them shows the massive gulf between the 2 midfields.

English vs Reeves
Bont vs Nash
Treloar vs Newcombe
Macrae vs Worpel
Smith vs Ward

I don't disagree. It's just that we've had some issues with banana skins like this in the past couple of years, except for a few good performances when we've absolutely thumped the poorer sides.

So either a weird arm-wrestle despite the apparent gulf in talent, particularly in the midfield, or we win by 12-15 goals. I actually think the latter is more likely, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's the former.

Keath for Busslinger might not be as far off as some think.

Keath gave Freo a few goals ... one where the ball bounced off his body and head, and another when he just dropped the ball after trying to play on from a mark (that ended up in a goal during thr same play passage)

Keath had a poor one but Buss like West has shown very little as to why he would be deserving of a Senior call up is the point given we are focused on winning now and not the future

That's an interesting idea. What would his role be? A defensive or an attacking midfielder at centre bounce?
I’d play him defensive side for sure, main & sole task is making sure your Oliver’s and Petraccas don’t roll out the front, he’s an imposing brick wall and there’s not a midfielder in the league breaking through him.

Keath didn’t have a poor one he’s had a poor year thus far.

Been poor is becoming the norm for him rather than the exception

Not saying to play him necessarily just hoping he comes good

Defensive would be my choice also. Not sure if he'd match up well on Trac but if he's quick enough a hard tag on Oliver around stoppages would be mighty handy whilst Bont has a rest.

I read it just fine,

What he did 5 years against 18 year old's isn't relevant when he is yet to produce the same against men.

I can already tell West is your Sweet of 2023 and no matter how little he does you'll be pushing for his inclusion

Without lying, did you really read it again?

When did people get their member reserve seat ticket for this game?

Did mine today. Level 2 and could only get row R.

Is this because it’s selling well or the old bullshit Ticketmaster dodgy of holding back good seats for non members??

I clearly pointed out that I didn’t post it to suggest how good he is and that he should be playing AFL. It’s a good reminder of his skillset, ie he’s a midfielder, all his best attributes and strengths suit being a centre square midfielder. You could quite easily make the exact same cut of highlights from his VFL games against men over the past 4 years.

Whether he’s capable of doing similar at AFL level, I’m not sure, maybe not - but no one knows because he’s never actually had that opportunity. But personally I’d like to find out at some stage, because there’s no body else that comes close to replicating that skillset on this list currently, and it’s something we’re going to need in a big way when Libba winds down.

But you know that, you’re surely not that thick that you genuinely think I’d post that as some sort of reference to get him in the side, so obviously you’re taking the piss with your little smartass Collins reference. Or maybe you are that thick it’s hard to tell

Sure is a lot of angst in this thread about fringe players who whether they play or not will not make any difference to winning or losing.

To give young players games to develop when they are not necessarily knocking the door down they either need to have an exceptional upside, ie Marra who still has a massive upside but is already influencing games. The other reason is a skill set we desperately need ie A Jones speed and forward pressure who once confidence comes will follow into score involvements or in years gone by a KPD in Gardiner.

Those being debated with such gusto,.besides derailing the thread down rabbit holes, do not have any of these chacteristics and playing them or not will not give them these charteristics so they are either better at the time than the alternatives or not.

Other than Smith who though not in top form is a best 22 still there is no one to come in significantly better than others and certainly no better than the incumbents.

Mc Clean may have dropped off, but giving him more game time with Libbas absence may get him closer to the footballer he was. He has had 2 major knee operations, it will be months of continuous games before you can write him off and he is young enough to rebuild

I don't think he is a lost cause no,

Do I think he is miles off being an AFL footballer yes,

Should McComb and Hannan continue to get games over him if they are performing better at VFL level Yes.

The only reason people want to see him given an opportunity he hasn't earned is because of his
Going to be hard replacing Libba.
Hope they are being proactive the recruiting team.
Mind you he may play to his mid 30s like Tony

I've been a West fan but I acknowledge that he may never make it.

Before I put a line through him though, I'd like to see him given an extended run in a preferred position.

He got a good run last year where he had some ripping games, but was dumped after a quiet couple..

Rather stick with him than take a punt on a late pick.

I think McNeil deserves the start, showed he has more than Hannah/McLean and still only 21. I like Toby and think he should be around the 22 he just seems to be a bit invisible in the quicker pace of the AFL. I wouldn't drop him yet but maybe a stint as sub so he can come in with fresh legs against some tiring players might suit him better. Surprised so far with no Buku this season, feel like with Bruce out he deserves a chance soon but TOB has been decent these last games so that might be why. Hope we see him soon could be the perfect addition to our ageing backline for a bit of energy

Sorry, I know this doesn't belong in this thread, but no one will read if I don't put here and it is about Bont's 200th.

I'm a reserved seat holder, but I've just received an email from the club advertising "Bont 200" with a "redeem now" button taking me to the Ticketmaster website for seats - anyone else get this?

Same, I’m interstate and have never received an email like that before, thought it was weird

Seems legit. Getting email because subscribe to receive ticketing updates....according to the fine print.

As a test I put in my own code and it says it has no entitlements or something, so it’s obviously not right.

At the bottom it said it was sent as I’m opted in to ticketing updates, so everyone on that mailing list will have got it.

Game day members - normal
Non-game day members & others - get your asses down to Marvel on Saturday evening to support the great man

Thanks for that - hopefully just a ruck up.
