Does Lester actually direct traffic? Maybe in the VFL games he does but I find it hard to believe someone that’s on the fringe as much as Lester is telling people where to go and what to do. I think that spot goes to the best lockdown defender and to me that’s Answerth, he is also much quicker and more athletic which plays in his favour.
Answerth is obviously a committed and desperate footballer and you can see the disappointment all over his face when things don't go his way.

He's had a little while to fix the disposal thing but still hacks it anywhere when the white line fever takes over and he's under any sort of pressure.

I'm sure the coaches are on to it. It's an aspect of his game that can be improved upon . Some players are never able to work their way through it. I'm hoping he's not one of those, he's young enough to correct it.

While I would like to see one of the Robbos come in , I don’t think it should be for Prior. I thought last night was his best game for the year. Started to look like he believed he belonged.
Really? I thought he had several shocking moments. If i had to drop anyone from the 22 it'd be him.

I am sure its already been said but the conversation about Payne seems very similar to the conversation about McStay of 3 or 4 years ago.Not impacting the contest, not enough possessions not kicking goals etc.
I have no idea whether Payne will succeed but its still a bit early to mark him as a failure.
I agree, Payne has been ok especially when he filling in for Andrews when that dirty bas&%$# Cameron hit him from behind. The Bulldogs were after Payne but he stayed with us and now we are developing him to fit in at both ends of the ground where he has been a beckman since listed. He was an elite junior athlete, quite talented, I think he will be ok, like a lot of Queensland kids, a late bloomer, I'm glade we have him and that he is becoming more of an all round big man at both ends. I still think he can be an Adams type player down back when that time comes.

He does it all the time, including last week. Don’t forget he is a member of our Leadership Group.

Payne did not replace Harris when Cameron knocked him out in 2018 - he was injured most of that year after foot surgery.

I am pretty sure that all of our current defenders know what to do and where to Stand. There is no real need for a backline General when the backline is experienced enough and playing well together as a unit.

I see it more as an on field coaching role and as part of a continuous improvement strategy. I thought Hodge was fantastic for us and while it took longer for me to appreciate Birchall, I think we have missed him a little this year, not for his physical attributes, but for his leadership. I think we can make better use of Ryan Lester. Perhaps he gets his chance in the event of an injury, perhaps not.

Hodgey was brilliant at a time when we desperately needed him last decade.
Birchall was an extension of that but we were getting burnt for speed time and time again the last 2 years with him in the team.
I think the team is defending as a unit better than any time in the last 5 years.
Lester was great last week against WC the worst side in the comp at the moment. But Darcy Gardiner was great in his return this week.
An onfield Coach was desperately needed 5 years ago but not any more.
