who knows, maybe with him in charge we might have. ever thought of that?
I was a long time worsfold supporter and I don't think he sometimes got the credit he deserved

But it was painfully obvious last year that he was cooked. Truth is he went at least one year too long

So an 11 year + coach would yield a lesser return that a first year coach with an entirely new coaching squad? Simpson is pulling out the 3 ruckmen trick. Worsfold let that go years ago... Simpson is such an amateur it's not funny. It's no wonder we have plummeted down the ladder.
We are currently 2 spots higher than we finished last year with a better percentage

What Worsfold probably excels at is being a motivator.

He's extremely poor at being a match day tactician. And because he got shafted by Malthouse, he wets his pants making a choice on the old firm as well.

I think this is a poor call. We've had a fair few players recently have their contract terminated early or fade away in the twos. I'm sure that if you were to ask Lynch, Braun, Stinga, Chick, Hansen, and Kerr (probably others too) they'd all say they should have played more games than they ultimately did.

That wasn't the question, the question was would we win a flag with this list with Woosha in charge, and I disagree. I'm sure Woosh would be getting more out of the team but its not winning flags.

Nobody can tell who will win the flag. A team just has to finish top 4 and then anything can happen. Worsfold reached top 4 with this list. Could possibly have done it again. Changing coaches resigned West Coast to another rebuild.

i agree. but clearly he wasn't as bad as people wanted him to make out. can't get more highly regarded than simpson, can you? new coaching staff, essentially same players, same results and same bomb-it-long game plan.

Massive difference between this list and 2011 which was the last time we made top 4 (and weren't a serious contender then either )

This is not a top 4 list

In 2013, we started the year with a heap injuries and a game against Freo and in general we had a much tougher draw. This year we started with a healthy list and played Melbourne, Bulldogs and GWS in the 1st 3 games, hence the percentage, we've also had a much softer draw.

Simpson has to earn his stripes but he deserves at least 2 and arguably 3 years in the job to prove his credentials and have a chance to put his stamp on the list

We've been far more competitive against the top teams this year and the Geelong game aside haven't had the shellackings that we had last year

Edit: scratch that. Checked our results from last year and the margins aren't as different as I thought

Nope, it was stellar years from Embley, Kerr, Cox, Waters that got us there. The youngsters in this list were dragged along but failed to learn anything from the experience.

It'll take him at least 3 years just to turn over the rubbish that Worsfold left him with.
You talk as if the entire team is rubbish and needs to be turned over. The midfield is our weakness. With a couple of decent mids, we can get right back in the hunt. Need a super off season from the off field staff

Of course Woosha "could" get more out of this team, he built it from bloody scratch. But we'd still flounder on the edges of the eight, and that would give us nothing. Irrespective of where we finish i'll back in the current coach until he's shown he's not up to it.

From memory, last year we had a fair few games that we should have won easily if we had kicked straight, even with that long injury list we only really dropped our bundle at the end of the year hence the percentage.
This year from my view our list has been improved with Bennell, Ellis and Yeo, we have up until the last few weeks had that healthy list but we have regressed as a team. I keep hearing the catch cry "learning the game plan", I hope for Simpsons sake that the players can learn quickly, because patience will wear thin very quickly with the fans and board.

My preferred changes:
Out: Rosa (inj); In: Sheed (even if not strictly best 22, I'd like to see games put in Sheed now in preparation for next season)
Out: Brennan, In: Bennell (really didn't get this change to begin with)
Out: Cox, In: Naitanui (I actually thought Cox was okay today and beat Pyke/Reid when rucking ... but fact remains he is the 3rd best ruck at the club right now)
Out: Kennedy (susp.); In: Sinclair (has been terrific at WAFL level all season)

Real shame Colledge is injured, I would have loved to see him in as well.
