Outside of Sheed who could come in for the midfield? Colledge and I think Maginness are injured. Sheed is the only option really.

Looks like Sheed is in the Mix according to Simmo

Also sheds some light as to why Bennell was dropped

I can't fault Simpson for laying down the law to Bennell - I think it's good to rectify those issues right away so Bennell doesn't fall into bad habits.

You'd hope the same would apply to the mids, who've been given a bit of a free pass so far - which may be because of other reasons.

Laying down the law?

He's been one of our most consistently good performers all year. **** knows what he did wrong.

RE the weekend midfield battle - Honestly... if this isn't an opportunity for our spud midfield and someone like Shuey to bully a lower team with a gun performance then i have no idea what is. Shame Kennedy isn't in to bag is usual 5 goals against a bottom team.

Yes, laying down the law. Simpsons said "He just fell away in a few areas that are non negotiable and when you do that you can't play. I had an honest chat with him and he had a few things to work on back at East Perth. He's gone back and done that. So we'll see how he looks this week."

I'd say that's laying down the law to Bennell and making sure he knows his role and doesn't fall into bad habits.

I'm very happy to see that from the coach - he obviously has high expectations of the player.

Not too sure why it's taken so long, but I like the sound of that. Bloody shame Colledge is unavailable.

Exactly.. simmo comes out in round 17 - "We need some more midfield depth"

Wowee! Good one Simmo, that is shocking news to the AFL community

I liked the way he said "& when you do that you can't play"

If we had depth in the guts, I'd imagine the same thing would've occured. Injuries have now had their say, so now the kids get a crack.

But injuries haven't spared them either :@

If you listened to the interview he was quoted from you'll realise he was asked directly "how will you improve the midfield".

Where he just agreed saying "yeah we need to add some depth." Went on to say he's been doing that all year and trying different things, so he's not just realised it in round 17.

Please learn the facts.

I know it's very, very early days, but I have been watching Aish closely all season (largely for fantasy purposes as I had him from day 1) and he just has those qualities that are usually evident in the good players very early on. I saw similar qualities in Wingard a couple of years ago - composure and sound decision making, combined with good skills.

I am of the view that we could have had both Aish and Yeo in the last draft/trade period. I am not writing Sheed off by any means and look forward to seeing what he can deliver with sustained opportunity and another preseason or two (plus inside mids usually take longer than outside mids; not every draftee rocks up looking like quadzilla), but every good game I see Aish play I feel a pang of regret.

Hopefully Sheed gets picked this week so we can watch them both go at it.

Changes:

OUT: JJK, Rosa, Cox, Cripps, (Brennan?)
IN: Tunbridge, Sheed, Nic Nat, Smith, (Bennell?)

The one change I am not sure of is whether to replace Brennan with Bennell. We need a matchup for Zorko and I am not sure that Bennell has the lightning pace required (the MC kept him away from Ballantyne in the second derby after he got pantsed playing on him in the first). I'd sit McGinnity/Wellingham on Hanley all day. Maybe McGinnity can take Zorko and allow us to bring in Bennell.

In: Shred, Tunbridge, Bennell, Cripps, McGinnity
Out: Rosa, Kennedy, Brennan, Smith, Hill

B: Bennell EMac Ellis
HB: Sheppard Schofield Hurn
C: Gaff Shred Wellingham
HF: Darling McGovern Smith
FF: Masten Lycett Hill
R: Cox Shuey LeCras
I: Butler Hutchings Tunbridge
S: Priddis

Give NicNat another week's rest, bring in youngsters.

Only issue with that is we have a bye next weekend.

So he wouldn't have played footy for a month, I don't know if we'd want him out for that long?

Exactly as it should be.
There are some good signs that players are getting a grip of the game plan over the past few weeks.
Good coaches take action when team rules are not adhered to.
Good for you Simpson.

Meanwhile in a parallel universe where Worsfold still coaches the side and the exact same results have happened, the headline reads:

"Worsfold still believes midfield can make a deep run in September"

:p
