Ultimately, such attention is at best a distraction for the club and player, and at worst, can snowball into a scandal (See: Jimmy Bartel and Geelong).
I think Geelong handled that well. I think North did the right thing in getting rid of Boomer when they did actually probably needed to do so earlier but there was a games record and such.
Its like a break up, there is no way these things are going to be done cleanly. 2 people want 2 different things and 1 is going to get their way so the other is not going to be happy about it. Knowing that they aren't going to be happy and not making the uncomfortable right decision because of the way they are going to take it is wrong.
This is going to get more and more as the money gets better we are going to see players holding on to hope that they can go around 1 more year when they are done. None of them are going to say "I wanted to go around another year but the club got what they wanted and I am happy about it".
Best thing is make the decision follow through with it put up with the disappointed noises and then both parties can move on.
Bartel was cooked, Harvey was cooked Priddis is cooked and the only reason why people are annoyed is not that he should have some denigration by actually having omitted next to his name but that the implication is once this "quad injury" is ok he will slot back into the team immediately just like he has done with his last 2 quad injuries against Hawks in the QF and Richmond last year. People just want omitted and the knowledge that something has to change hopefully via East Perth for him to get another gig.
This "injury" just keeps the door open but I am happy that like the bulldogs game (best game we have played in a while) we get a glimpse of life again post -Priddis
