Boy and tippet aren't pure rucks either. They fall into the Josh Jenkins, Ben Brown category. Unlike the two names, guys like Vardy, tippet and boyd aren't the greatest of forwards either but their prefered position is forward.
I count Vardy as a genuine ruck, although his injuries have meant he doesn't have the tank to do it full time. He has been played as a forward ruck because of that but I think ruck is his best position. Similar to Tippett and Boyd, 200cm+ forwards can struggle the way the game is played now, if you can't clunk a lot of marks they just run off you.

LeCras is probably the one senior player you could make a case for dropping but he'd had a good two weeks prior to that.

I think he was probably in the gun but then David King f$cked us with that roast, once Simmo took the bait and went in to bat for him there was really no chance he was going to be dropped. Good news is against the Lions at home, we can probably carry him comfortably this week with other changes. If he kicks a bag that probably his spot tied up for the rest of the season, if he struggles again they might think twice about taking him back to Melbourne in for another must win agains the Saints. Either way, my round 20 preview is going to be heavy on the Lamb.

So Cole is the only one omitted after last week... hmm ok.

Hopefully E Macs inclusion will mean Gov gets some time on ball to help Petrie.

Good to see Karpany in.

On effort several players but clearly LeCras and Cripps were poor and their defensive run was poorer. The complete inability of us to lock the ball in the forward line on the (admittedly) few times it came in was problematic. But they didnt give much and haven't given much for some time. I think our small forwards are a significant issue.

Obviously Priddis needed to be dropped. I understand "injury" did that.

I just think the coach needed to make the players accountable and a couple of experienced players who didn't perform might have sent a better message than Cole as the only omit.

I completely agree with you Cripps hasn't been any good all year, not sure how he holds his spot and Lecca hasn't fired a shot for weeks now. Our entries into 50 have dropped off so its more important than ever to keep the ball locked in with manic pressure. Cripps used to be great at it but he looks slow.
It's an indictment that JK is having to not only kick goals but apply the forward pressure that Cripps and Lecca should be doing.
Going forward though I think our midfield will be alot quicker and better at getting to each contest. Next year with Venebles, Parto, Shuey, etc.

Cripps kicked two superb goals last w/e. The rest of his game was meh. I've been calling for him to be dropped the last 4 weeks. But on his goal scoring last w/e he'd be ahead of Lecras. Lecras should've gotten the axe. Probably didn't want to make us too fast with all the changes we might've given the turf boys some work to do fixing up the paddock.

Vardy has been ordinary for a couple of weeks, A rest this week, against the bottom team, in a game that will most likely be played in atrocious conditions is perfect timing.

Specifically for this week I really like the team. Lecras is a bit meh, Karpany in makes up for that though, and Lecras had played very good games here and there this year so I can deal with it.

Shades of his time at Essendon right now. He's played a few serviceable games, so why not bring him back in?

Probably the best indicator yet that they have every intention to delist him with a payout. He could be one of six retirements, potentially (Priddis, Mitchell, Butler, LeCras, Petrie, Giles).

Yeah if McInnes and Giles can't get games whilst vardy, Nic and Lycett are out, I don't think they really have much of a future on the list.

Agreed. though is it a case of simmo and the mc not liking them or is it lack of opportunity to suceed? mcinnes did alright at chf in 2015 when darling was injured for the first half of the season. i dont know if we can right them off given the way the mc selects the side. not giving untried guys a go has been a hallmark of our side the last few years

Stoked to see Yeo named at half back, hope that eventuates. Cole is unlucky but the team is better balanced now with Karpany up forward and Yeo in his AA-worthy position.

We could have kept Cole in and let Barrass and Schofield handle themselves, giving us a smaller & quicker side. If Emac is a must, then exchange him for Schofield as the lockdown KD, let Barrass intercept and Shep/Yeo play as 3rd tall.

McInness will definitely be kept as back up, is playing pretty good footy in the WAFL and is only 24 so he's only just reaching his peak for a big man. He's been in an unfortunate situation where we we've had JK, Darling, Nic Nat and Lycett on our list. Besides Nic Nat doing his knee he hasn't had much opportunity to build his AFL career, he's had some good games when he's had his chance and has only built his ruck craft over the last two seasons so he probably got some improvement still to come in that area.

Giles has a chronic knee injury so he's probably done end of this year. I'd think we'll go for a young ruck in the draft instead.
