Reckon McCarthy got a knee in the back early in the game and actually got one of his 4 possessions trying to get off the ground. Someone saw him out on his own near the interchange bench and kicked the ball to him.

Big Jones nailed him In a marking contest. A decent cork to the hip. He was hobbling off the ground and then found himself as the spare man. Impressively trapped the half-volley ball and handballed off before running to the bench. They applied ice and rubbed it down. He wasn’t the same after that.

He does look a bit half-arsed at times Cam. Up until the cork was doing squat anyway. Not fussed either way whether he is dropped or stays. If it was me I’d drop him for Harley Bennell.

Tucker or Duman can come in for Nyhuis.

Ross seemed to think that big Darcy will be ok and he is one tough hombre.

McCarthy>Bennell
Nyhuis>Tucker

Out
Nyhuis Darcy McCarthy

In
Duman Strnadica Ballas (Grey?)

Mccarthy was crap and clearly not fit. He needs a kick up the ass, get in shape.

Ballas should come in if he's fit, don't have much out there. Grey even.

If Darcy is out, then have to play Strandica. No other option. Great chance to give him a sniff.

McCarthy (and to a lesser extent Matera) were almost players today - almost a mark here, almost a goal there. Would keep them in.

Agree with other calls, Duman for Nyhuis and Strads for Darcy (if forced). If Bennel meets his fitness requirements then see you Sutty, otherwise that's it for mine.

I'm sure McCarthy will keep his spot, even though he did nothing as a third forward. 4 touches, zero marks.

I thought he was supposed to be a natural fwd , to me that means you may not be the most athletic guy but you have the ' knack ' of how to play forward
I seriously doubt that this is the case , he was mis - timing his leads badly mostly going too early and showed none of the tricks that good fwds have , the quick double backs etc
He has a nice boot on him but I can't see how he's ever going to get enough the ball for it to count , he would be lucky to out mark a bloke a foot shorter than him and doesn't have the speed or agility to be dangerous on the ground. There have been ' finisher ' type fwds who have been ok in the past I suppose but I can't think of too many that are doing well these days

Sadly it was surely predictable wasn’t it? The guy did nothing at Peel. He wasn’t going to magically come in and be in our top players.

His failure however was epic.

I’d rather play Strnadica.

Maybe he knuckles down on the track and can re-invent himself as a high work rate guy but he doesn't seem to have any weapons beside his foot skills

He might be one of those ‘plays well in his final year of his contract’ guys. I hope so but I’d give him 1 year deals from here.

Personally I think he’s taken the piss as an AFL player.

Exactly, rather play strandica as he's more of a natural athlete anyway then Mccarthy. Offers more in terms of marking. Mccarthy is shot. Not sure this season but he needs to bulk up, have Fyfe as his trainer and get his ass into AFL shape. Just looks out of place with his fitness and body shape

Out: Nyhuis (susp), McCarthy.
In: Duman, Strnadica.

Today was one of the worst performances by a key forward I've seen in a long time by McCarthy. No way he can hold his spot on today's effort. Here's hoping Darcy is fit and ready to go next weekend.

McCarthy looked a little overweight to me. I know he copped a knock but he looks slow. Maybe like Matera it is a confidence thing??????

Maybe the coaches feel launching Cam back to Peel is a waste of time as he’s not learning anything there.

Not learning much in seniors either

The kicking to McCarthy was at times nothing short of amateur hour. Even Mundy was doing it.

McCarthy is leading to the flank. His man is trailing him and another port guy is dropping into the space in the middle.
Mundy puts the ball center side and deep so McCarthy had to prop and go back and compete against two

Yeah, compared to previous weeks McCarthy was at the end of some horror service I thought, although maybe it was the conditions. It's such a hard thing to judge - sometimes it's obvious he should be using his body differently, sometimes he's forced into 1v2s or is completely missed by our own - then the times when he does get good delivery he can never stick a simple chest mark or makes the wrong decision within the contest he's in.

No doubt McCarthy needs to work on his own form, but felt bad for him yesterday compared to previous games especially if he was injured early on. It's a collection of things that slowly need to be fine tuned over time which means our own decision making by foot - although McCarthy's biggest challenge will still be working on his body in the off-season and refining his body work like I've mentioned before. It's not the solution to the problem but certainly helps compensate or ease the blunders from both sides of the issue.

I'd just keep McCarthy in for the rest of the season, and I never liked keeping him in before. ;)

I agree with this. Cam wasn't good but the delivery to him gave him very little chance.

It's a bit early still, probably need to wait to see the injury list tomorrow to get a better read on what's happening. We don't know the extent of Darcy's injury, it could be nothing, I hope that is the case. It did look like something, but I'll be optimistic.

Sandilands may be ready, but if not Nads is next in line and I don't think he would be much of a downgrade by the sounds of things. Meek is not even close, another injury to a ruck could be problematic with Apeness out for the year.

I'm calling Bennell in this week. He played a full game at Peel, and he really just must play seniors if he is going to go beyond this season.

Matera wasn't as bad as everyone is making him out to be. He actually had a lot of the ball, his finishing was just off. He has certainly had a difficult run post bye though. Stays in for now.

Out: Nyhuis, Darcy, Sutcliffe (or Sheridan)

In: Johnson, Bennell, Nads
