Changes vs Los Bombres

Any chance Darcy's injury could be nothing? Looked in a bit of pain as he as coming off.

Bombers only have 1 Ruck - Bellchambers but not sure Jones would be able to keep up with him all day. Still don't even know why he was brought in for Apeness though.

Anyway,

OUT:
- McCarthy: real ordinary performance for him
- Matera: few early stuff ups which I think shot his confidence for the rest of the game, stint in WAFL wouldn't hurt
- Nyhuis (susp.)
- Darcy (hopefully ok)

IN:
- Tucker?
- Bennell?
- Strnadica? Is he ready?

Slim pickings from Peel. Depth is being severely tested.

McCarthy was so so bad. He’s just not fit.

Matera was fumbly and had 3 or 4 chances to snap goals on his left which should be his bread and butter and fluffed all of them.

Those were the 2 very noticeable poor players.

Went to the game and McCarthy just doesn’t work at all.

The only credit I will give McCarthy is that he did fight to bring the ball to ground a few times, but my golly there wasn’t any second efforts.
Agree to some extent but the kicking to McCarthy on several occasions was atrocius. There were a few events on the southern side where he had clear separation and the kick insted of going to him or his advantage went behind him to his opponenet or the second Port player chasing him. Contrast that to the Sheridan kick in Q1 to Cox that literally demanded Cox move to the right space and you understand a little more why his impact is limited.

Matera however just looks like he has no confidence or the arrogance that he showed a few times early in the year. He has the capacity to be a very dangerous player for us but some time at Peel is on the cards I think.

There was definitely one that I can recall. He had clear separation about 10m. Wilson then absolutely hacked one that went behind him.

But to say there was numerous occasions where that happened would be generous.

I was at the game and the guy moved very little.

I agree. He got some poor service but his second efforts and pressure were very token. One of my group mentioned they saw Ross have 'words' with him at one of the breaks and to be fair I though he tried a bit harder in the second half.

McCarthy could have ended up with 4 goals if things went right for him. I only watched it on the screen while on holidays, but it did not look like a day for key forwards anyway. He seemed to make a contest, and was in the right position but was ignored quite a few times. He also kicked an important goal, which many others failed miserably at. He had a bad day, but I though he competed.

I said this before we were targeting him from GWS - he was a fourth forward behind Cameron, Patton and Greene. He scored multiple goals on numerous occasions, but these were not KPP goals. He was never going to be a Jesse Hogan, or Cameron, or Hawkins, or Buddy, or Kennedy or Dixon etc.
His stats are pretty horrible, however I think we should keep playing him. I certainly think there is more upside to Cam than Kersten.
I see a big future for him at our club, and I know his swagger around the ground will draw criticism, but there are those glimpses where his field kicking and vision is just elite. I can see him playing a good centre half forward role. That is, if he can get the pill.

I’m not going to defend some of the poor kicking to Cam but I do recall him dropping a lace out chest mark 40m out pretty much straight in front. He’s just shit outta form and confidence at the moment and to be honest, got a bit of a lucky free kick for his goal. He was playing with a corkie though, which would’ve hindered his movement.

I would give him another week simply because I hate it when a player comes in and is only given one game.

None of our tall timber can get a decent run at it this year, except Cox.

Hopefully Darcy gets up, but I guess if not we might see Meek or Strnadica.

Not expecting to win this one, but I wasn't expecting to win on the weekend either!

If Banfield can replicate his round 2 work on Zerrett surely he finally gets a RS nod?

The one thing I hope we don't change is the physicality. Think Essendon are prone to being a bit soft. Maybe we bring in Grey to exploit it even further (perhaps to negate one of their small forwards like Nyhuis did)? Crowden is almost ready for a second go as well imo (but they may want him to build form first). I'm not sure I'd bring in Duman yet. And Kersten doesn't play physically either.

High intensity physical pressure and we give ourselves a shot because it'll give us space for our runners to use. If we don't, I think they'll smash us.

No excuse to not improve our goal kicking playing under a roof this week. Won't be winning if we miss 9 shots at goal in a row this time.

Sutcliffe - goodbye and goodluck. Just a useless footballer.

Sherridan looks soooo damn skinny
Cam Sutcliffe had a good reign of terror in his career 6-7 years of wonderful memories. A shame though. I want him to stay one more year, so he serves his 8th year. He then becomes a free agent and someone is crazy to give him a 10 year deal at 3 million a year lol.

Bring Meek or Strnadica in. Might as well. give them a Taste of AFL footy. We are down to the bare bones for the next 2-3 weeks anyway

I like the idea of giving Strnadica a game. Don't get to watch WAFl, but his stats look pretty consistently good for quite some time now.

He only moved when I kept asking him to move from stand 110. Very Blaise

Nah not to standard for an AFL footballer anymore. Kicked a ball on the full in the 1st that was a simple 20m kick. Done with him, would rather Crowden or Duman play
Here we go again
Crucified for 1 bad kick.
He actually missed a sitter in the second quarter as well, but he had lots of mates there
Sutty was good & deserves to stay

I can accept 1 bad kick, even the better skilled do it (Fyfe Mundy Neale Cerra Hills) but Sutcliffe continually misses the easiest of targets. He offers very little to the team and I’d rather be getting games into Bennell or Crowden over him. Hell even D Pearce.

I remember that one, though I’m pretty aside Giro came across or got in his way. Miscommunication

Still don't even know why he was brought in for Apeness though.
My guess is that the Match Committee thought that Ryder would destroy a slightly underdone Darcy and Apeness. Jones was in to play the enforcer role - which he did really well.

Don’t think we will change more than we have to from a winning lineup.
Darcy -> Sandi or ?
Nyhus -> Gray

Nads.
Yet has been good for 4 consecutive weeks.
Sherro has well exceeded my expectations since coming back in and I like the guy. Plenty on here having a hard time acknowledging that he hasn't been terrible.

That kick to Cox was sublime. More of that Sherro and you'll turn into a favourite.

Sherro has been good. I happy with him in as long as he's not in the backline.
