Out Goodes, Honey (inj), Hunter

In Grant, Webb, Macrae

Not sure if Dale will be able to go around again. Absolutely spent by the end and good on him for being so.

Loved his reaction to the fyfe comment

For someone that is unable to watch the presser at the moment, could you summarise?

Not saying I want Cordy dropped but after watching today I couldn't stomach seeing Bontempelli having to ruck in the centre bounce. Was poorly organised in that regard and we got smashed in there so badly regardless. Blokes were putting their arms up as they had no idea who was rucking. Campbell or Minson have to come in.

What did the Drink say re Cordy/Will?

Media dude: Do you think in hindsight you could've done something about Fyfe.

Bevo stare of death: this is a team that was one ground ball away from beating the top team. Did you see where they came from after the first quarter? They could've won the game had wallis got that ball and we were away. But you want to look at fyfe. I guess thats your perogative

(Or words to that effect)

Terrific shutdown :)

FB: Boyd Roughead wood
HB: Murphy Talia Johannisen
C: Macrae Picken Stevens
HF: Crameri Stringer Dahlhaus
FF: Grant Boyd Dickson
Fol: Minson Jong Bontempelli
I/C: Wallis Hrovat Hunter
Sub: Dale

Outs: Roberts, Honneychurch, Cordy, Goodes
Ins: Grant, Hrovat, Minson, Macrae

Out : Goodes, Honey (inj)
In : Biggs, Macrae

Next in line: Webb and Grant

Hunter gets one more week and a game not as the sub to really show he deserves to stay and Macrae deserves to come back, and makes us better. Jong and Wallis will be better next week too, bring on the Dees.

Outs
Stringer (rest) - Need him to fire against GWS
Honey (inj)
Goodes

Ins
Hamling
Macrae
Biggs

I'm not worried against Jamar that we need Minson. We need Roughead spending more time in the ruck. Should be a 50/50 split with cordy. Both Roughead and Cordy spend time in the forward line.

im happy with just

OUT- Goodes
IN - Macrae

Jong and Wallis will be better for the run today, Dale deserves the same treatment as webb before him, a run of games given his decent showing today. If Hunter has proven anything it is that, he cannot work into the game quickly enough (if at all) and fails as a sub. He needs to start, or not play at all.

Edit: for some reason i am hanging to see what biggs can bring, anyone care to enlighten me as to how he is coming along in the magoos

Once I removed the emotion from the loss, I reminded myself that we have Melbourne next week so the wholesale changes that perhaps should happen in the ruck department won't.

I currently have this week's changes as;

IN: Grant, Macrae
OUT: Goodes, Honeychurch (inj/rest)

I didn't think Goodes was quite as bad as others are saying but Melbourne's midfield isn't quite as big-bodied so he isn't required, esp. with Stevens, Wallis and Jong all in the side. I feel like Grant deserves to come back into the side, has been good 3 weeks in a row now in the VFL and like others have said offers a point of difference.

Wouldn't be totally surprised if Stringer ended up being a late out next week either, with Hrovat coming back in as a late in.

Agree. Cordy had 8 disposals, 3 hitouts, 2 tackles, 4 marks and 0 score. He was absolutely annihilated in the ruck and the rest of the team did a fantastic job to get so close. Minson may not be the ideal ruckman going forward but he is miles ahead of Cordy. Cordy is not AFL standard. Minson or Campbell would have done far better. Can't understand Beveridge's thinking.
Goodes also not up to AFL standard and not part of going forward for the future.
Freo given a head start with these two in the team ahead of players like Macrae, Minson, Grant and Hrovat.

Cordy also assisted both of Crameri's goals and two of his marks were contested. Used it well when he got it and halved a lot of contests in the air. Also didn't give away any frees, which you can't expect from Minson. Not saying he's a star but your basic stats-based analysis of his game is a bit unfair on him

Seriously if Minson is the answer we are asking the wrong question.

If we are to try another ruck maybe Campbell but not sure. Minson's around the ground stats have been worse than Cordy's in the VFL and we have not dominated the clearances with Minson as ruck. Those wanting Minson are wanting the past that was not at all successful. Priority 1 at the end of the year is a modern ruck, until then Cordy and give Campbell a go.

Outs for this week
Goodes for Macrae
Stevens or Honeychurch for Biggs

Can I ask why stevens would be dropped?

I thought he was really good today.

Could Biggs play through the midfield at AFL level?

Stevens? 18 disposals at 83% including 2 goal assists and 4 score involvements. 4 marks, 8 tackles, 2 I50s and 4 R50s. 2 clangers. Thought he was very serviceable today, solid in the first half last week, superb in Sydney and good against Adelaide too. No way is he on the block

Stevens would be unlucky. Disposal efficiency can be misleading though. His errant handball that though straight to Honey so would be part of the 83% efficiency, had Honey flattend and ball turned over for a goal. his kick under no pressure on the wing out on the full cost a goal. These are 2 of 5 examples of where he panics under pressure and though his personal disposal efficiency is high, look at who has th ball in the second phase and not just the first statistic. Therefore, 18 disposals from a midfielder is simply not enough to demand a game, or do we set the standard low with our mids and say though you may not be able to average at least 5 disposals a quarter no way would you be on the block?

I did say either Stevens or honeychurch, and expect Honeychurch for Biggs. To bring good players in sometimes players who do not deserve to be dropped are for a better replacement. The other obvious out could be Hunter, but he has not been given a start yet.

What did the Drink say re Cordy/Will?
Said we knew we were going to lose the hitouts do it was inconsequential,
The issue was what was happening around the footy more than the ruck itself
Wanted to challenge free with 2 tall forwards
When asked about Minson was blunt and said he was okay yesterday, we'll see when asked if he will would get a recall

So after quarter time we moved Cordy out of the ruck and wanted an extra Midfielder in the middle. Isn't this one of Minson's strengths? His second efforts and the way he bulls himself in the middle?

just posted what was said don't agree with it.
Imo either Minson plays next week or we bring in Hamling to play back and use Roughie as a number one ruck.
Don't care if Cordy stays or not think he is impacting forward better seems to be more adapt to the second ruck/forward role now

I think once morris returns Roughead and Cordy will share the ruck duties a lot more and play as ruck utilities. Bevo wants the rucks to be handy around the pill. This week I reckon rough will chop out more as the Pavlich factor won't be as frightening. Listening to bevo Minson won't be back next week
