I think we’ll win but it’s clearly a danger game.

Specifically because they still have a very solid midfield unit that can score. I think if we’ve got the game on our terms defensively we can comfortably cover there forward lines.

However our midfield can be lazy and aren’t a great 2 way unit. If a couple of their mids get off the chain for 2-3 goals we will be in huge trouble.

Overall though - and against popular opinion, I think we’re in pretty good form given we are trying to bed down a different game plan.

I'm fully expecting Oliver to have about 45 possessions and to dominate the clearances. With Gawn putting it down his throat and our refusal to actually defend a stoppage, he could go really big.

2 is a bit weird, Knight needs to find form in the SANFL.

What really is astonishing is how a player is OMITTED (cause he's been garbage for weeks) then is placed on the emergency list and as we saw last week replaced a player that pulled out.........is OMITTED for a second week after another putrid performance and for some unknown reason finds himself on the emergency list again.

The AFC have lost the plot, seriously lost direction, leadership and sound decisions........is it any wonder players leave this club.

We have incompetence at all levels.

This is one thing we can agree on. Our losses this year, North the exception, we've played some pretty good footy.... just not enough.

Last week our KPFs barely fired a shot and we should have knocked off the reigning premiers. Consistency is definitely an issue throughout the group but it won't take much to find.

This is a game we simply must win though.

They still won't win, they can't score.

Just a slight overreaction!

Anyone else find the 'justification' of the selections a bit bewildering?

Pyke's defence of selecting Gibbs is that he has 'responded well' to being dropped. Um how exactly has he responded well? In the media he made it clear he had a firm discussion with the coach and disagreed with his dropping and the reasoning. So I'm guessing by 'responding well' he meant on ground. Only he hasn't played. So how exactly can you justify his selection? The answer is there is ZERO justification. Just another in a long line of complete stuff ups from the Crows (we have form in dropping players and then picking them again after they don't play) that indicate a clear lack of planning.

We have 100% panicked and gone back to the old MO of picking experienced players regardless of form. If Gibbs deserved to be dropped after the Brisbane game, then there is no way he deserves to be picked now. None. FFS he was dropped, we had two players pull out of the team and he still didn't get a game. Yet he's suddenly back in?? Then again, maybe he managed to avoid the TAB for a full week so is being rewarded...

I disagree somewhat.

both Gibbs and JJ droppings (pun intended) have smacked of an attitude issue more than anything else.
how a player responds to an attitude issue is not something that necessarily has to be shown on ground, or in media appearances. it's the day to day inner sanctum stuff that would show the true response.

perhaps Gibbs and JJ improved in this area, said the rights things, responded in the right way and did what they needed to do during the daily grind.
how TF would we know this, well, we wouldn't / couldn't.

but i'm prepared to give Pyke a reprieve here.

Live by the sword die by the sword

Pyke will be justified if they perform

But they only need to have more output than jones and EH, which wasn't great

Except with a few on BF
JJ, Can get 20 disposals, 6 goals, 5 contested marks and 5 tackles, and some will still find fault.
Gibbs, Can get 25 disposals, 10 contested,2 goals, 5 tackles and again some will find fault.

End of the day if they Help the Crows win and play there part in the Crows kicking a score of 100+ points, I will be happy.

Weren't we complaining that guys were being mishandled by missing SANFL because of being travelling emergency? Now you complain when we put senior players into that role so young players can play SANFL?

Gibbs can get all the touches in the world. If he's ignoring defensive assignments after being told numerous times to lift his game in that area he'll find himself dropped again.

Well the decisions have been made so lets wait to see how the Crows go, then you can start to get stuck into Pyke.

I couldn't understand why Gibbs was dropped. we were all saying that there must be something else. Perhaps its as simple as attitude and nothing else. A public kicking by Pyke can have a big impact on attitude. To some degree I think that was the main reason for Jenkins to get dropped. Player starts to think he just has to turn up, disregard what the coaches are asking for stuff you jack I am all right. A good public kick in the arse can create a major change in attitude.

Lets wait and see.

Funny how he's the only one this gets applied to though.

We've had issues with unaccountability going back to when we had peak Thommo and Dangerfield running around.

Crouch x2, CEY, Douglas, Laird, Atkins and at times Smith are all guilty of not showing their opponents respect and/or refusing to run both ways.

I put a lot of the blame down to Campo, who is usually quick to point out whichever stats we won that week (and ignore the ones we were reamed in).

This

Apparently all of last weeks problems were caused by the key forwards.

Wrong

From half way through the 3rd we were smashed in the midfield, stoppage structures went down the toilet, no defensive action.

In fact there was some footage from the 1st quarter showing Sloane pushing B Crouch in the direction of an exiting WCE player.

If he wasn’t chasing in the 1st quarter, little hope it was happening in the 4th

A bigger Mackay would actually be an alright player. He's got tonnes of courage and alright skills. Just gets nullified by a stiff breeze.

Being slight doesn't stop him from getting more of the footy - he's just not that good.

And if he wasn't a downhill skier Atkins would probably be a star.

But that isn't the case, so who cares.

And the coaches at their respective pressers over the last couple have weeks have clearly stated that performance at training would be taken into consideration at selection, particularly as bye rounds in the SANFL has restricted some players ability to get game time .. Purple (among others) really is a helmet

Rightly or wrongly, I get the feeling we place a lot of importance on a players ability to hold the structure of our zone/game plan. It’s stuff as supporters/Media we probably struggle to identify and generally isn’t shown in statistics. This would explain why some players seem to continue to get unjustified games, whilst others struggle to get a spot.

I would suspect that whilst Gallucci hasn’t been setting the world on fire offensively, they’re very happy with his ability to fill the structure and play the role.

From an individual level, I think Gallucci needs the gametime at AFL level for his development, whether that’s best for the team is more debateable. His first half against West Coast was quite good, the struggle is staying involved. If he can bump his possession numbers up to 17-18, suddenly he’s making himself a lot more difficult to drop.
Whether you agree with the Edwards video or not the part where his only feedback was '' you ran your lines well'' resonates with your analysis.

Now that can be a good thing for a limited player ( and I suspect Jordy may be one such player) but special talent can sometimes be boxed into a role that their instincts struggle with - (as a general comment not on Jordy)

Agree totally mate.

Once again, as it was for the last couple of years, all of the talk about the strength of our SANFL side, and the pressure for selection based upon performance, has turned out to be total bullshit.
