If I was basing my knoweldge of the Bendigo game on what I had read in this thread, I would assume that Lovett was ordinary; Dempsey brilliant, & even Hocking/Hislop/Hooker good too.

The stats (and I know stats aren't everything) tell a completely different story:
http://www.essendonfc.com.au/news/news.asp?nid=5972

Lovett had it 34 times & had solid form prior to missing the compulsory training. He must be reinstated into the line-up, he has served his penalty & leaving him at Bendigo for another week would be counter-productive.

Dempsey's stats weren't too bad, but he needs at least one more run around with Bendigo before consideration, especially if its expected to be a cold, wet match on Saturday, as that is when susceptible hamstrings are at even greater risk (trust me, I've learnt this the hard way!). Of course Sunday at Frankston probably won't be any warmer:mad: If he gets through that well he could be a great inclusion for the WC match at Subi given his run & the size of the ground.

Magin was the only other listed player with > 10 touches, but would not omit anyone for him ATM, and cannot consider any of the others on those numbers.

Rama hasn't been too bad, his defensive work can often go un-noticed, & as others have mentioned he cannot be dropped given the theme of this match.

If Lucas is not injured, Mal or NLM should make way given the lack of obvious match-ups. If Lucas is injured I would move Ryder or one of those 2 forward to cover.

Just one change this week:

IN: Lovett
OUT: Lucas (knee)

If Lucas pulls up okay, OUT: Michael instead.

If the stats on the efc website are right then lovett is a definite, he had 34 touches 28 and 6 handballs with a goal.

Would think that dempsey, hislop and hocking still need a run or 2 at bendigo.

I
Results speak for themselves, you only have to watch the game to see that he is doing what is required of him. His last three weeks, he has performed the role that he is picked for perfectly. He's provided ruck relief to Hille (most hitouts on the ground last week, most hitouts to advantage) and created scoring opportunities.

You can say what you like about him as player, but to try and argue that he hasn't improved in the last three weeks and increased his work rate over what we saw earlier in the year is senseless.

He needs to be afforded the same time to develop as David Hille was. If Laycock was thrust into the first ruck like Hille was at the same time, his numbers would be well up on what Hille's were.

I don't know where you get perfection from, he was thrashed in the last quarter, in the centre, by two very ordinary ruckmen. The best thing he did from memory was a long handball and one takeaway out of the centre. His timing is abysmal. And I wish he would shut his mouth as he launches himself in slow motion to a contest. Any relation to Betty Cuthbert ?

If he was thrust into the ruck like Hille was ; the end result is only speculation. I'm tipping he would have gone down with an injury.

Work rate improving- marginal at best, and coming off a very low base.

If Auld or Jackson give him a pay rise, its senseless capitulation.

Sounds like he played his role.

Yep, biggest area for improvement in his game.

So you agree with me? Thanks.

Isn't he already signed for next year?

I'm not convinced about those stats, I'm tipping Welsh and Watson and Lonergan had something to do with them.
And he's not parlaying the few assets he has, and I suffered the embarassment of standing with some Collingwood supporters who laughed at Thomas's contempt for Laycock when he bumped him out of a contest, albeit illegaly.
I think his contract terminates this year. He's lucky I'm not negotiating on behalf of EFC.

He is injured and your evidence is in Knighters press conferences which are on Bombertv and Ants training reports.

Merv are you sure we can trust Knights - because according to Mick Malthouse Knights is full of shit ;););):):):)

I hope Lucas does play because we need them to get back into some form against a Melbourne defense.

The real questions is: "Do we introduce the kids that are coming off injury with minimal game time this year into a team that is possibly going to make the 8"

OR

Do we just wait until we are certainly out of the 8 and then put a couple of games into those guys???

Your thoughts?

While Lucas is injured he has still been playing with the injuries but obviously he isn't able to perform to where he would like to be able to.

The worst thing we could do is play guys that haven't had the conditioning after coming back from injury.

The finals are highly unlikely, so just play it safe and play guys when they are ready, thats what i would hope they would do.

Assuming Scotty is fit - Lovett for Rama is the obvious change.

Rama looks like he is going through the motions. Not sure where he is at really.:(
Approaching retirement/delisting I am sorry to say. Will be pushed out of the team by kids next year. Sad but that is football.

Lucas still Doubtful...

http://afl.com.au/tabid/208/default.aspx?newsid=64429

That sucks, Especially now that Gumby and Neagle are still injured... All we have is Hooker to replace him up forward, Ideally.

Not ruling him out yet, though.

yeah i was just about to post that, it looks like in lovett for lucas is a near certanty.... very much doubt hooker will play. knights meantioned going small in our forward line. to be honest i think we would be much more better off playing mal as a permanent full forward, he is gutsy doesnt mind the contact and can break the packs open for guys like jetta, monfries and lonergan to rove the packs.

with just lloyd in the forward line we could be very low on quality targets and i dont see where all our goals will come from.

After reading that article:

OUT: Lucas

IN: Lovett

Dempsey should come in the following week against West Coast at Subiaco.

Yep, get rid of the ruckman that led the game for hitouts and hitouts to advantage.

Good idea.

Define hitouts to advantage.

Does that mean he palmed the ball straight into the lap of a team mate?

If so i don't beleive the stat.

Laycock won quite a few hitouts but they were no way near as effective as Hilles.
