im OK with Thommo's selection for this week

North are very much an inside midfield side and Ziebell will be a bull inside the contest so Thompson's big body and experience will be valuable at the stoppages

North are also not a great leg speed side and they struggle to spread from the contest so this is also in Thompson's favour

No doubt in my mind North will try and slow us down by turning this game into a real contested / stoppage type of game and this should suit Thommo
That's a very short sighted view. If we can't beat North without Thommo we should give up.

We should also be trying to exploit North with pace, just as West Coast did to us and Bulldogs did to West Coast and if we play the Giants they will do it to us too.

So carrying 2 out of form players in a 6 point loss isn't game changing? Every other player should just have done more?
We lost the game moreso due to discipline errors and a poor selection error. North had poor players on the night too.

Call it what ever you want however Thommo has been in the side all year and he was never going to be dropped for an inexperience player who has played FA games this year

Not short sighted, just a reality

That's not the reason you gave why you were ok with his selection

Regardless both reasons are valid and I still believe that Thompson is a good match up against North

It's a knock out final and you pick the best side for against that opposition to get the job done and then you assess again the following week

Everyone keeps saying "if Thompson, Douglas and Mackay have stinkers then they can be dropped for the Semi".

In a final, if all three of them have stinkers, we won't make the Semi.

We need 22 contributors in September.

The good news is North are playing Petrie, Anderson and Daw so they're already three guys down

The pressure to make a change will be immense if Thommo has another stinker.

He will. In regards to running and chasing,
I expect he'll still get his 25 disposals 17 or so of which are hacked kicks to whom ever is lucky enough to be where they end up going.

But next week if we get there.
We just must get Knighta in for a bit of speed and instead of having a couple of games he has only 1.
It's like the fail when Wigg didn't get a game.
Our selections this year have been timid at times.

Selecting a player who's not up to it and hoping that they magically turn it around is vastly different to one of your reliable players having a rare downer. Surely you understand this.
Of course, however at the time we didn't have the option of a Knight or a Menzel. Plus our worst player on the night was a bloke called Brad Crouch.

When these old names get trotted out what gets missed is that they weren't keeping superior players out of the team. We picked our most talented side. We didn't go in understrength deliberately just because we'd won some minor round games.

Also rotations were completely different. You could park Keating on the bench for 80% of the game.
You use the word superior, but I'm not sure you know what it means.

Marginally better, might be what you are looking for.
