Changes vs North Melbourne

Honestly were playing too many talls as it is IMO. Why do we have to play Hickey and Maister in the same team at the expense of another midfielder when our main weakness for the past 2 seasons has been contested footy and frontal pressure. Not only that, McEvoy has been pretty good in the ruck and very very good around the ground, why not just rotate him with Stanley in defence when he gets tired. At the same time Roo has been absolutely killing it forward of centre, so WTF do we need Maister and Hickey in the team for? Gotta be experience because it ain't for team balance.
And if its for experience, then WTF isn't Ledger or Curren playing, again in positions where we struggle badly? The funny thing is, I just can't understand how these problems can allude the selection table Our 2 biggest weaknesses, Frontal Pressure and contested possesions, yet they still go for Maister and Hickey. Its just ludicrous.
Saady's main objective is to apply frontal pressure and try and keep the ball in there, and I feel really sorry for him because half the support around him are just lumberjacks! Not his fault. This team selection is not working for us.

Just wondering. Is Stanley a much better backman than a forward? Or is it just that he hasnt got injured after 2 games like he used to when playing forward/ruck. Maybe he just seems better down back cos weve got a chance to see a bit more of him?. Does anybody think he should be tried forward again?
Its been great to see him string a few games together finally :thumbsu:
I think I'm in the minority but I'm still hoping he eventually moves back to that forward/ruck role that's killing us right now. I might change my tone if we find someone else with his forward/ruck ability and pace to go with it.

It could be said that Riewoldt's propensity (gameplan-driven or otherwise) to lead up to the flank/wing leaves Maister/Koschitzke as the only capable talls to take every single defender on the opposition.

Riewoldt may be having a cracking year (largely because his goal-kicking has improved out of sight), but every other marking forward suffers as a result. This has been a longstanding issue, going back to 2010.

If Roo didnt bust a gut and run 100mts down the field to mark the ball, pass it off then sprint 100mts back to the forward line. The ball wouldnt come into our forward line anywhere near as often. He cant stay at home in the goal square thinking "i better not go up the ground and get the ball cos Kosi & Maister might not get a kick".
Thats their problem not his.

I'm not saying he should never leave the 50.

What I'm saying is that by doing what he's doing, he's telegraphing the entire procession of events to follow.

The only time we get anywhere when he's got it out on the wing with defenders streaming back is when he's got room/time to chip it inboard.

Hes in the same boat as when Richo was in full flight at Richmond. They have such a high work ethic that ordinary players around them look even more ordinary.

Really?
Kosi's last game, vs Maister's last game:

Kicks 4 vs 8
handballs 3 vs 4
Marks 5 vs 5
Goals 1.0 vs 1.1 ( 1 scoring opportunity vs 2 )
hitouts 10 vs 0
tackles 0 vs 3
inside 50's 1 vs 2
clangers 4 vs 4
Free's away 3 vs 2
contested disposals 4 vs 8
contested marks 2 vs 2
marks inside 50 1 vs 2
1%s 2 vs 0

I guess he's only slightly worse than Maister based on their most recent games.
So maybe not tanking, but on what grounds would we be selecting him?

Magpies v Bulldogs

Kosi underperformed for more than 2 games.
I'm borderline dropping Maister, I think another week of the same and the majority will be calling for his head.
If he doesn't fire this week, or the week next at the very most, bring in Lee and just play him to get games in him?

If you are part of the "in group" you don't need earn way back in, you just walk straight back into team. Same as if your dropped for form, you only have show couple glimpses in one VFL game to "earn" a recall. It's what it is sadly.
But the days of Lyonesque Eddy and McQualter picks are long gone, right...? Right...?

Surprised Rob Eddy and Andrew McQualter aren't at Fremantle yet..
I'm starting to be surprised that Scott Watters hasn't relisted them...

(I'm not serious... just venting at selection lately again...)

Within reason. Impotent forward line is depressing, i preferred it when we were kicking and leaking goals, at least it didn't feel as hopeless when talking about our options. I mean Lee is just starting to feel his way into VFL after his best (but still only fair) game last week (it's easy to forget he's had an incredibly stuttered start to the season), Maister is looking awful, Hickey is not a forward, Siposs is battling through OP or something, and Kosi is not the answer. Hopefully it/someone turns around because there's really no adequate solution yet.

Oh god, I'd suppressed Pattison from my memory until now

It's quite funny to watch.

I love watching excuse being made for another, please continue :p

He had a game high number of tackles against Footscray
Prior to Footscray, his out put has been very poor and he should of been at Sandy weeks ago,he drifts in and out of games for my liking, cameo roles should no longer be tolerated we have all been mesmerised by his flashes of play but we see too little to have an impact on the scoreboard anymore.

One positive change for the game, Jack "headhunter" Ziebel is out. Far less likley that some North player will run at full pace and leap into one of our guys heads.

Perhaps if it was against another team, you could think Stanley could be thrown forward, and I expect to see him moved there in a game at some stage. But with North Melbourne having Petrie, Tarrant and Black playing at the moment, Stanley has to play back, and Jason Blake could even get a game this week. Stanley seems the natural match up for Tarrant, with Petrie being the big worry.

If Stanley is playing back, Maister and Kosi are not up to it, Lee and Siposs are at some level of dinged up, then we don't have much left. Persist with one of McEvoy or Hickey forward, or perhaps think outside the square with another bloke of size in the side.

Or throw Spencer White in the deep end.

Could Maister have a go down back? Didn't Saints draft him as a key back? Think he would go all right on Petrie especially since Petrie is out of form.

Steven , Montagna and Armitage all average more inside 50's than Riewoldt ( 4th ), but in last weeks game, Riewoldt was only credited with one, with Steven Milne kicking the equal most ( 5 , so did Steven - Lenny Hayes kicked 4 ) which is an issue in itself, because I'd rather Milne was on the receiving end.

Milne's 9 disposals resulted in 8 kicks, 5 inside 50's , 3 scoring shots ( but only 1 goal ).

If Maister played on Petrie , Petrie would no longer be out of form.
