I wouldn't say he's a plodder but I do think he is a touch overrated atm. Would want to see a bit more before talking him up as anything special.

Bollocks, Nelson's a plodder, open your eyes. Look at reality and not make up what you want to see.

No one said he's anything special, just that he had a good game and shouldn't be dropped like that other poster wanted. The closest anyone got is me saying that he showed more in that game than Duggan, Redden and Jetta have all season and I stand by that statement. That doesn't mean I think he's going to end up being a better player than someone like Duggan.

Would like to see Brown stay in. Like his flexibility in general, not just as backup ruck.

If it's wet and we're bombing forward (more than usual), then having him to follow an extra defender would be handy. Tarrant has been massive loose in defense at some points this year.

Norf have decent small forwards, and Brown was in doing some good lockdown jobs before the ACL. Gives us flexibility to shuffle Gov both ends.

Nah there was a lot of goo in the forum because of one or two bits of good play. Bit like Sheed's sidestep in 2014.

Let's see how he goes this weekend if he plays in the middle.

I like him but agree with WCErevival that we have been frothing a little too hard over a game that made one of the worst players in the comp look good

I'm keen to see how he goes, I think he adds a bit of toughness to the midfield that we hoped we would be getting from Redden. I just think calls for him to be dropped are ridiculous.

Oh yeah he def shouldn't be dropped.

Agree about the toughness. Hope he has a massive summer doing 45s

We just need to pick our best 22

We need leg speed and two way gut running ability

Redden plays Duggan plays .....hill plats

Jetta may miss ....ginners misses .....

We have good selection problems thus week

Logic: We need leg speed.

Proceeds to drop the two fastest players mentioned in the post.

Never change dave. :)

Nelson has been in and out this year and is "expected" to be inconsistently playing and up down with performances. Same Duggan and all the young boys. McGinnity like Barrass & Hutchingshas been made to earn it a bit more and I think will be given a decent crack for a few weeks at least. Hill, Brown, Redden, Jetta as senior players should go in when possible. I would say that there is a few niggles/sore bodies that might factor in the decision too. I'm feeling a late change. Wellingham, McGinnity, Redden and Brown > Jetta but its wet.

Nelson plays his role as instructed I suspect. He is hard, reasonably quick, has good disposal and makes good decisions. The only down side is his age and inexperience at this level. If he doesn't make it as a midfielder then this club has a huge problem in this area as only he, Yeo, Sheed and possibly Duggan have shown they have the ability to support Shuey and Gaff in a more effective midfield. Other than that it's a matter of hoping from improvement from experienced players like Jetta and Redden or massive improvement on potential players in Karpany, Partington, Murtimer and Snedden.

I hope he does make it as a mid but either way we've got problems in there. Too many average or one dimensional players, guys who can win the ball but can't do much with it, guys who can't win their own ball but can run all day, guys who can kick well but can't seem anywhere near it. We've got a lot of players who have one or two excellent skills but are let down by the rest of their game.

He's not going to get a rising star nom.

Agreed. No chance at all that nelson gets a rising star nom. None at all.

*he isn't eligible (played 11 games last year)

Watched it twice. My opinion hasn't changed. Just don't go with group think and see things that aren't there.
The guy battled hard, did some niggle, did a few good things but I'm not raving about him. He's not going to get a rising star nom. Barrass is an obviously better player. If Nelson keeps at it he should become an okay player in time. He got 14 possessions ffs, everybody's calling for Jetta, Duggan and Redden's heads for that. Nelson's 14 possessions are nowhere near as effective as Jetta's 14.
But did you go to the game at Subi? He did a lot off the ball that does not show up in stats and missed mostly if only the TV. Mates of mine who watched on TV were less impressed than the dozen or so who were at the game.

Rising Star - not many nominations for players in a defensive position. I sense you are getting push back because he adds something to our side that we are sorely lacking. We will look better with him in the team and his 14 possessions will grow in the near future.

I'd prefer that both Hill and McGinnity play .......... leave Jetta out ...... he can do the platting!

Does anyone think with Wells out we might play one less tagger? I mean we have Hutchings who can tag and then we can bring in some more experience in the midfield with Duggan and Redden over Nelson. I like what Nelson did but he is only starting as a mid but at the moment i would back those 2 over him.

Jetta must not see this when he walks out the door. Mind you neither is half the side maybe we should make it bigger.

For this reason Jetts out Hill in and Redden in for Nelson (experience only reason)

i put this in another thread about Nelson...
assuming he gets a run, he did take Thomas apart in Tassie last year (there was a cyclone blowing), got subbed off, and Thomas sparked....the option is there ,i suppose....

True but i think for his development he should stick to the one role and learn his craft. We have Butler who is capable with small forwards.

Nothing wrong with a little froth over quality
