Preview Changes vs North

The fair comparison is to compare the output the output of players in their first year and the opportunities they have been given. After 3 games a number of posters declared Crouch was overated, had poor disposal, yada, yada, yada..................

By the end of this season I predict that Brad Crouch will have the best stats of all the first year superstars this year (O'Meara, Viney, Wines, Whitfield etc)

Now lets compare the SANFL form of Neade, Colquhoun, Lyons and Grigg and the opportunities that they have been given by the Crows and the Power.

To be fair half the board was posting in this vein in the Crouch thread so this is hardly a revelation. And few are directly attributing it to the way he has been managed. As opposed to Wines and O'Meara who's output might be starting to drop a bit after a long season.

are you declaring L.Johnston arrived after one performance? ......because unlike Grigg, I am still not convinced

Opposition selectors would have said Johnston who?
Exactly. I still don't think Johnston is good enough, but grigg showed some glimpses that suggested he can make it, but by no means am I totally convinced

Lyons dropped? What is it we've got against good players?
kidding of course aren't we ......could be, but IMO way too early.....not enough standout attributes and i'd put him on a par with Riley

There is a lot of talk around that the coaches aren't happy with Lyons fitness levels. This suggests to me that they feel limited to what he brings to the side and allows him to fall behind in selection to players who can offer a lot more. I think he has played alright this season when given an opportunity though.

Where's the talk?

Our entire squad (except Dougy) has fitness issues.

Thommo is a cripple. Jacobs appears impaired and too big and heavy and slow - Otten the same. Reilly was dropped because he was too heavy, Crouch told the same. Porps can't run out a quarter, let alone a game.

But we're concerned by a kid having fitness issues? Sub him out every week then.

And the Riley comparison - Lyons was BoG in something like 16 games last year wasn't he?

Has Riley ever done that.

That still doesn't convince me to say he should play against Fremantle. At least Adelaide righted the selection and brought him back in for the showdown.

So we didnt make a mistake... But it's good that we then addressed the mistake we didnt make?

Edit - already addressed.

Laird, Brown, Crouch, Grigg. Johnston was the only one I would deem was the last option for after Jenkins went down.

Brown replaced Johncock.
Laird replaced Doughty... After we tried Jaensch there over and over.
Crouch yes.
Grigg? Only came in for an injured Danger and then an injured Rory.

Anyway, we've omitted Lyons, not dropped due to injury - so it's great to see we're using the rest of this wasted season to get ourselves ahead of the game for next year.

Not fair comparing Crouch to Wingard? What about Crouch to Neade?

Anyway it's great to hear from you again. Still have your pitchfork and torch Wood Duck.

Does the entire MOB have a group prescription for Prosac this year?
Do you think Sydney handled Tom Mitchell well last year?

Fair that Lyons was dropped, looks like he needs a rest, his fitness levels just don't look good enough at the moment. I reckon he really needs to work hard through the Summer as well as doing a bit of strength training. The sort of player that should play 7 games this year, 14 next year then fulltime the year after.

Kinda disappointing no Kerridge :(

Last year is the key

And do you think the Crows are going to rest on their laurels that everything is all good now forever? He's only just debuted in the AFL. They are necessarily going to be cautious. Hence Sando's comment today.

Good on Grigg for turning it around this year. A lot of good players fall by the wayside because they can't put in the effort required. Looks like he'll work his way into the best 22. The Crows will manage him to keep things this way.

This may be a load of crap, but I think I remember reading somewhere that when he first came to the club, he was blown away by the fitness requirements, and really struggled with it. Maybe he's just someone who struggles to gain fitness. I guess you could look at someone like Danger who took a few years to really build his fitness base.

Wasn't that Graham that said that? I think Lyon's was low on fitness to begin with because he had been splitting his time between football and cricket.

Letting him play?

If you don't play sanfl the previous week, the fans will slag off selectors for picking ylu

I don't give a damn whether the fans slag off the selectors (although I care very much if we're making selection decisions based on the whinging of fans!). It's not like Kerridge just sat on his ass last weekend and didn't do any running or fitness work. Hell, I bet he could run out a match better than Scotty Thompson at the moment.

If they wanted to play him this week they would have done so, SANFL match or no SANFL match. The fact is they don't want to play him, and they haven't wanted to for some time.

I don't understand why. Could it really hurt to give him a role as that small forward who shifts through the midfield? It's not as though we've really found a player in that role and locked him in so far.

Signed on for the Reilly gold pass are we? where he gets selected to get injured while known to be out of sorts.
Man must be copping it for bringing back sloane, not a single sanfl match.
Kerridge has been put into emergencies after 2 good games, waffle whatever you like but that looks like tanking.

The master bedroom of the Penthouse usually cures my blues.

is that what you have read into my comments ....then that simply demonstrates my post earlier re the mentality in Adelaide .....feel sorry for you

Have you heard what's happening at Carlton? Have you heard what action Mick is preparing the squad and the fans for? And they can still make the eight!

Meanwhile, we're a mathematical chance to make ninth, if Jupiter aligns with planet Krypton while being passed by a flaming meteor..... And we're picking Porplyzia, leaving Kerridge to flounder in the SANFL, and signing Reilly up for another two seasons.

Thoughts?

list management at the club is still better then if you let the blokes in the trading and free agents have a go at it at least.
