Preview Changes vs North

He's also a lot younger. And Jacobs has been terrible this year - by what he's capable of and the standards he set last year, he's been rubbish.

He should be dropped, even if it's just to make a statement that you can't suck almost all year without any repercussions.

Then again, Porps has sucked all year, been dropped twice, then rushed straight back in - so expecting consistency seems a little high.

As for SMcK, you might well be right - but giving him the last few games of the season to make certain either way seems like a much more logical, sensible option.

Don't you think they may already be certain? 25 average game out of 27 in five years would give you a pretty good sample of what he's capable of I would have thought.

Maybe they'll bring him back against WB and Melbourne to bump up his trade value?

He still only 22 mate, very young for that type of player.

Tyrone Vickery from the Tigers is a year older, and he's been consistently underwhelming until this year - but they've persisted with him.

With Jenkins down, we should play him primarily as a forward; or with Jacobs sucking, play him primarily in the ruck - give him a month to settle into a role and try and force the issue.

He hasn't set the world on fire, by any stretch, but he's definitely shown some signs that he could be a valuable player.

Oh wow is he another one on your long list of players who suck, which consists of every player in the league except van Berlo?
Actually, I think we've uncovered some real gems this year. Crouch, Laird & Brown have all really impressed me. Grigg was outstanding - but it's only (half of) one game, so I'll withhold judgement for a bit longer. Same goes for Johnston.

I think Kerridge is a limited footballer, recruited as a super-fit man child with limited talent - I think that's all he's ever going to be. That could be enough to earn him a 50 game career, but I doubt he'll get to 100 (Pets has made it to 50 with less talent).

I just don't think that Lyons is the pick of the bunch. After 3 years on the list he's still not fit enough to play out a full game, he also lacks pace and has iffy disposal. He is by far the least impressive of all the kids we've played this year. The reasons why he fell so late in the draft and was left in the SANFL for so long are now apparent to all - he's showing all the signs of being a SANFL wunderkind whose weaknesses means that he's unlikely to translate his strengths to the AFL level.

** I know Hartigan played 1 game. I don't regard that as sufficient information to provide a valid opinion.

Not every kid is going to make it. To have found 3 guns and 2 likely guns in one season, with only one real dud, is still a pretty damn good outcome.

The selectors have squibbed it again. Can't wait to watch Jacobs lumber around again this week. McKernan would've been far more value in ruck.

Rowey to Harper "why do certain midfielders get a game when they aren't performing"

Harper's reply "if they are bad enough often enough they won't"

Hmmm...ok Sauce and Scotty 19 strikes and you're out?

Jarryd...sorry we'll put you on the HFF graveyard, one or two average games...not good enough, see ya next year.

Oh and Sam (Kerridge) is real close, real close:rolleyes:

Oh and Shaw has been in great form for Glenelg:eek: Look, I'm happy Shaw is in based on potential and next year but don't spin some BS about his form!!

Is it really any wonder we are 13th with the selections this year.

Was that seriously Harpers reply?

Jacobs has been well down on form, but definitely not shit as you stated.

As for McKernan being a better player than Jacobs, you're polishing a turd there Kingy.

McKernan is a dopey footballer with no real natural footy intelligence who just doesn't do enough.

McKernan is not in the same class as Jacobs - a long way off to be truthful.

Thanks Bruce :)

McKernan will be 23 in 3 weeks, and in his career he's shown six tenths of nothing. If we've seen the last of him in a Crows guernsey I won't be sorry, because as bad as JAcobs has been this year, he's still been significantly better than McKernan.

As for the last time we played North - Jacobs and McKernan were both rubbish. The difference was made by the small that came on for Jacobs providing extra run, not by shifting McKernan into the main ruck, where he did nothing at all.

Johnston was doing the 2nd ruck work for North Adelaide in all of his post injury games back with them, so fully expect him to give Jacobs a chop out ahead of anyone else.

I really hope they don't put Johnston in the centre square to give Jacobs a rest, he did for North a bit when Craig was out injured, but he usually stayed down and tried to shark the opponents tap, against Lachie Button, not a bad ploy, but against Goldstein I can't see it being anything other than a disaster. He wasn't too bad at boundary throw ins, and other stoppages, where you can get help from a third man up, but he isn't big enough or strong enough in the centre square. Maybe Rutten could be an option, he's used to playing on taller opponents, his body work and positioning are brilliant, it might be enough to nullify Goldstein or Petrie.

I agree. Just leave LJ in the square. He can kick straight and that is what we need.

It was inevitable this would happen

Kerridge - play as a small forward - successful - drag out of there and play as mid tagger - drop
Lyons - play as a mid - good - drag out of there and play as a small forward - drop
Johnston - play as KPF - successful - drag out of there and ruck - drop

Who will be the Roos player gathering (near) 40 touches this weekend? Seems the Crows have the style to allow a real game influencer most games, or at least in red-time.

How do I start my own thread discussion like this ?? I've posted 26 times but I just don't know where to
go from here? Any help ??

Sorry it's not about the thread.

Looking at that team, the one ruckman, one key forward, with Shaw picked? Any chance Rutten will go to FF and fill in for a resting Jacobs?

But then they would of picked Hartigan, right?

McKernan has not been given a decent opportunity to show his wears in ruck for nearly the whole game. Why would we not try & find out whether he can handle the lead ruck, whilst our season is cooked.

At the same time it would give Jacobs a much needed kick up the arse. Jacobs is no doubt a better player when in form, but for those on this board claiming he is form is still OK are delusional. This year he is not jumping, hardly running & hence is not been used by other players in general play... & his best attribute taps to advantage is no where near last year's levels.

Is it any coincidence that 3 players in the leadership group (2 for the 1st time) - Jacobs, Porplyzia & Thompson have all had poor years & should have been dropped (/sooner) back to SANFL to get into form, but the selectors have kept them in the AFC team for too long. Selectors need to make the tough decisions & that means dropping players - no matter who they are - after several poor games. We have had way too many passengers this year because of selecting players out of form.

* Thompson has been down on form because of injury ... but why the heck are we playing him if we are not going to play finals this year & should be getting him right for next year... so Kerridge can learn more with Sturt.

Rutten rarely takes rucks in defence.

We will definitely have a part-timer relieving Sauce ... & I just hope they don't get injured rucking.

:thumbsu:
even Port's super hyped "future" Butcher is 22 (and I cant remember him taking a mark against us last week)

that sounds somewhat like Maric was in his last year with us.... is it something to do with the rucking style/positioning etc that our ruck coach is instilling in them?
