I don't think anybody has any faith in Clarke, do they?

Not a single one of our ruckman has made consistent progress under his tutelage.

I think Kerridge is a limited footballer, recruited as a super-fit man child with limited talent - I think that's all he's ever going to be. That could be enough to earn him a 50 game career, but I doubt he'll get to 100 (Pets has made it to 50 with less talent).

Won't make 100?

Based on the bold, we'll probably make him our next Captain.

EDIT - Damnit, beaten in the very next post!

Not playing Kerridge and Lyons when Thompson appears close to the end, we can't make finals and we have two years of no good picks is the height of dumb

Think about why.... what happens if we finish 13th or 14th and miss out on a pick around 5 or 6.....

The wolves come out again. In force.

The club is shitting themselves at that possibility. They want to finish as high as possible so they can say "it didn't make much difference..."

AFC management are delusional if supporters don't notice the impact of the lost picks... but yes, you are right as they are delusional!

Some supporters will just take a little longer when they look back in 5ish years time & the young players running around that we missed out on ... & that doesn't even take into account the value we missed out on if we traded Tippett.

Ironically, playing the younger kids maybe would have got them the result they were after.......

I don't know a huge amount about North's side but who is their second ruckman? I'd assume it would be Petrie or Hansen who are both 197 cms according to the North website. If so, they're not overly tall for ruckmen so one of our KPPs in defence could probably just follow them in to the ruck when they go in and at least nullify them. By the sounds of it, Goldstein does the bulk of the ruck anyway so Jacobs will just have to do the same. I doubt we'll see many Goldy vs Johnston/Otten/Talia centre square contests.

I like Shaw so I'm happy to see him in, although I think it's a big risk to go in with one ruckman. Wouldn't mind seeing him go forward either. Also, I know the AFL is a different kettle of fish all together but I swear I remember seeing a Youtube highlights package of Shaw in the u18s where he was actually rucking.

From what was just posted, Goldstein rucks 95% of the game according to the Crows. They want the extra runner on the ground since they don't think they've gotten much out of the 2nd ruck this year anyway. Basically called it a "calculated risk" that Jacobs can keep up with Goldy.

Seems you guys think the game will be won or lost in the ruck, am I right? Goldstein does indeed ruck 90-95% of the game and generally does his best work in such situations. He'll get a bit of help from Petrie and/or Black. Sorry, "chop out". I imagine it lessens the risk to put Talia in there, if that's correct, if Petrie is also there. Hansen has generally been the tall spare in defence.

The Kerridge situation? Yeah, his game was nightmare stuff for us last time, but his primary opponent (I think) was Firrito, who hasn't played the past three games. With McMahon also now missing our backline is faster than the last time we played, although not as experienced (not that you'd have noticed with Spud's mistakes against you mob in Rd 9.)

Scott Thompson >>>>>>> Scott Thompson.

For the poster who asked about our debutant, Taylor Garner, here is our BF love fest.

I think we are gonna get belted tomorrow. Particulalry if Carlton lose today and North have a sniff of Finals.

Man I think youre crazy.

I think North take us on tactically almost better than anyone else.

That said, I still stick with my above statement.

The ruckman isnt the whole team. Jacobs output was probably 2/3 of Lobbe's last week and Lobbe did a number on Geelong today, so Jacobs form is reasonable I'd say.

We have our best midfield in for a few weeks, sloaney and danger with vince and dougy in good form.

We are in generally good form at them moment, just magically unable to win games we should. Actually, scratch that, magically we manufacture close games and then lose when they should be 3-10 goal wins.

So we'll either win well or have a close game. Cant see them flogging us.

Dying to see how we'll go with two left footers in the team as well. We are disgraceful at moving it at times for an inability to go on to the left.

It aint just about Ruckman for me. North will have something to play for, we don't.

Just watch Geelong tear Port a new ahole for three quarters and that team lost to North last weekend.

I think most of us here would agree North has a massive advantage in ruck, given the form of Goldstein and the lack thereof from Jacobs, regardless of whether we have a second ruck. Some were just surprised that we dropped our back up ruckman and are concerned that we're going to have to use someone like Talia or Johnston, who showed good signs up forward last week, as part-time ruckmen instead. In saying that, playing Smac or not probably won't be the difference between us winning and losing. Shaw is a quick, athletic tall who should provide more around the ground than Smac does, especially in terms of run and carry. I can see why we'd sacrifice the second ruck to have a bit more around the ground, given Smac hasn't exactly set the world on fire anyway.

Port, Brisbane and Carlton all lost today. If West Coast looses too then we are still in the hunt for 8th (9th) if we win this game. C'mon boys!!!!

I'm already developing huge eye teeth and howling at the moon at night, Pete. :thumbsu:

Thinking of what we've already missed out on, what we will miss out on, plus watching Tippett kicking bags of goals for another team without any return to us, and I want blood already.

As soon as the Adelaide Oval saga and the reserves team issue are both bedded, I want Trigg's blood. Somebody has to pay for this fiasco and he's been the principal driver in all of our woes. Surely he has to go once these issues are done and dusted.

Watching this year's draft is going to be bloody painful for us supporters, as we watch genuine talent that would have been ours going elsewhere. Bloody painful.

Wayne, you're better than the shallow snipes - what exactly am I wrong about?

And that's our problem.

BACCS - I'm a Thommo lover, but that does describe him, doesn't it?

Who will benefit more from playing out the season - Thommo or Lyons?
I don't think it really matters at this stage. But if I had a gun to my head... If Thommo can find some sort of form leading into next season, I think that is of more benefit to the team.

Yeah Porps to replace McKernan and ruck for the first time in his career...great thinkingo_O
Huh? Did I say Porps would replace him in the ruck? Shaw has come in for Smack anyway, so I guess he'll be playing ruck going by your logical reasoning?

And. I wonder what real difference trigg has made to either the reserves issue or the Adelaide oval.

When we get called cheats and people say that we stand for nothing I want to disagree, bit find it very hard.

I hear you and agree Thompson should have a rest but sando thinks he is best 22 and that's our ethos. Always play best 22.

Oh crap.

We would have been better of dropping Sauce & keeping McKernan if we only wanted 1 ruckman.
Um, no we wouldn't have. So I guess you don't mind dropping a guy 3rd in hitouts to advantage, and 4th in overall hitouts per game?

The amount of shit Sauce cops on here is what pisses me off most (even more so than the Thommo stuff). His season is definitely down on last year, and I'm not denying that, but he is still a class ruckman and is by far and away still among the best 5 or 6 going around in the AFL.

Comments like yours are just pure rubbish and a blight on our supporter group. I've seen Richmond supporters show better support for their players than some of ours this year.

So the only ruckman we have playing is Jacobs who has been poor all year and has especially been smashed by Goldstein so we drop his support (who was actually decent when we played North earlier this year). Instead we bring in Shaw who has been sub-par in the SANFL. Lyons for Sloane I don't have a problem but McKernan for Shaw is one of the most puzzling decisions of the year.
Again, not true. At least back these statements up with some stats, or logical arguments to support it.

This year?

He hasn't been any worse; and Jacobs should be dropped.

He deserves to be dropped.
Cmon Kingy, you can't just say this stuff without backing it up at all. Do you actually see many other games each week and see the other ruckman going around?

The only genuine rucks who have been better this year are Goldstein, Leuey and Minson (and maybe Cox), although I've been very impressed with Lobbe in the last few weeks. Kreuzer has had a good couple of months, but was average for a large part early on. Maric has been woeful, McEvoy has been woeful, NicNat has been injured, and nobody else really comes close.

I know it's the cool thing to do on this board these days, but Jacobs is still a class ruckman and his stats support this. Even the club has admitted he's dropped off 10% in a few areas compared to last year, but all that does is bring him back to the pack.

No ruck is ever going to win the hitouts against Goldstein, but all I want from Sauce tomorrow is to negate his influence, get some ball around the ground, win 20+ hitouts, and make sure Goldy doesn't push forward with no pressure.
