I think people hate it because he doesn't do anything when he does it, it's not like he gets involved in the play around the ground and he's still working out how to be a forward aswell.i don't know why people are always against JVR rucking myself, i reckon it suits him fine. it's not like he's the best forward in the comp that needs protecting or something.
i'd have JVR go back to backing up the ruck, leave Johnson in the VFL as his reserve, and just play Fritsch and Jeffo as the other forwards. with the extra tall Fritsch gets pushed up the ground into a role that doesn't suit him.

I don't mean in the ruck I mean he gets 0 disposals while he's rucking as well so it just takes him outta the gamei'm not too bothered by how he goes when in the ruck, most teams just use some mung bean to give a chop out for the ruckman anyway, and Johnson is no better at it based on what i've seen.
i guess it all comes down to what you think JVR is. some people obviously think JVR can become a gun FF if just used that way, and that's fine, maybe he will, but i just think he's more of a second tall workhorse type myself. he backed up the ruck last year and still managed to kick around 30 goals, maybe that's just all he is.

He's a less skilled version of that other recent guy we had who was a Temu Jack Watts. He's wildly uncompetitive in the ruck in the VFL which should be impossible. He's just a tall forward who is like a 2.5/10 at all the things a tall guy does.Man Fullarton must be a dud if he's not even being remotely considered in that FWD/ruck role.

Agree that it's dumb, but at least it didn't really cost anything.Boggles the mind what we saw in Fullarton. Almost seems like:
"We need a forward who can play some ruck"
"Brisbane are a good team, they have Daniher playing the role we are looking for, who's behind him that cant get a game?"
"Ummmm, Tom Fullarton?"
"Cool, well its settled then, we are trading for Tom Fullarton"
"Shouldn't we watch some film on him first?"
"Nah"
Complete waste of a list spot for 2 years. Wont ever play a game for the club. Not often you see a club trade for a player on an AFL list and he doesnt play a game for them while remaining relatively healthy like Fullarton has.Agree that it's dumb, but at least it didn't really cost anything.
Fractured larynx – won't play this week, and would be surprised if he plays next week. Shouldn't be out too long though.Hey apologies for the intrusion, Supercoach lurker here - wth is going on with May? Is he ready to go?![]()
HehAgainst Xerri, Campbell is a probably worth a shot.
Historically Goodwin has gone smaller at MARVEL pretty often. Campbell is injury backup, so really shouldn't be playing unless Gawn is out. Also not sure why Gawn would need a VFL level old bloke to help him against another ruck?Against Xerri, Campbell is a probably worth a shot.
Because Xerri is a brute and usually batters Max around.Historically Goodwin has gone smaller at MARVEL pretty often. Campbell is injury backup, so really shouldn't be playing unless Gawn is out. Also not sure why Gawn would need a VFL level old bloke to help him against another ruck?
Which has less impact on the outcome than just about anything else.Because Xerri is a brute and usually batters Max around.
He's played Melbourne 3x in his whole career and that's usually? One of those games he had 2 disposalsBecause Xerri is a brute and usually batters Max around.
Brown is likely not available this week apparently. Went in for scans on Monday.Give me a Kynan Brown who can apply pressure, get in space, hit a target and give a mid a chop out over another big anyday
Fair point.Brown is likely not available this week apparently. Went in for scans on Monday.
Yep, I would have loved Brown in this week. Woewodin is too vanilla, I'm happy to leave him and Billings out pretty much permanently. Spargo played on the weekend, but you'd think they wouldn't rush him again after last year.Fair point.
I was using him more as an example and the first small player that wasn't in the 22 that came to mind. I know the cupboard is bare with Pickett suspended, Spargo and others injured, and the general lack of talent we have in the FP/HFF positions, but even our spudliest of smalls has to have more +ve impact than 3 talls all jumping for the same mark.
Give some games to Woewodin, try Bowey forward, something has to be better than 3 talls + Fritsch + Gawn resting
I've already reached the acceptance stage about losing this week.
Had the sugar hit of all the debutants etc last week and nearly pulled it off against a much better side – wouldn't be at all surprised if we come out a bit flat this week.
Changes wise, expecting it'll just be Turner in for AJ.
Think we're in for sone classic mid-table mediocrity this year.I expect us to lose tbh, just can't rate us above the bottom six this year. Hope I'm wrong but there are still so many issues.
