If we don't blood a youngster this week vs Norf then when will we?
Shambles.

I like Hamill but you can't be hovering over a ground ball with his concussion history.

Out: McHenry, Sholl, Smith (looks cooked), Berry (inj), Hamill.
In: Dowling, Pedlar, Ryan, Crouch, Curtin.

Formula one footy - get turn and go.
Fast mistakes are fine, slow mistakes are not.

Dont dare lose this one!

I think you do the pre-game address minus the group hug.

The team needs to get back to basics. Selection based on minimum required efforts. Forget talent. We’ll not get anywhere with fumbling and not putting the head over the ball.

Crouch in for Rachele
Strachan in for Gollant
Curtin in for Nankervis
Ryan in for Smith
Pedlar in for Sholl

Eff me, it’s not possible to be any more clueless as to why we’re crap.

The club has a very old school approach to the development of some players as was pointed out with the Worrell/Doedee/Lever stuff

Back a few decades ago squads were stronger, list management was less advanced, talent pool better. Clubs didn't have to immediately play drafted players because there was less risk of leaving and the best 22 quality was better.

Since the introduction of Gold Coast and GWS most teams have looked to get their draftees in sooner because the bottom couple of players in any given team have dropped away to make room for more teams. So you may as well play a first round pick who is likely better than some reserves quality shlub

Also with a larger salary cap, free agency, longer term deals now being common, rivals are much more aggressive at poaching talented young players and paying for potential. This has again been exacerbated by a weaker talent pool and compromised draft.

We can't just expect Curtin to go through a multiple year apprenticeship in the SANFL and be happy with that.

If we learned anything from the Davis, Gunston, Lever, Cameron, McGovern situations (and you better believe we learned absolutely nothing, we never do) it's that not backing in juniors and not paying them what they are worth WILL make them more likely to leave.

Yes we have played some juniors immediately, but often this has been because we lacked existing players in those roles or we played them out of position again because we lacked players in those roles.

With Curtin we don't lack players in his role, so he's in the twos. Now I'd argue the players in his position (Brodie Smith) are playing very badly so he should be getting a run but the club doesn't see it that way.

ROB is the only junior player that I can recall passing the senior player and sending them to the 2s. Even then, Pyke reversed that call a few games out when we could still make finals.

a practice run for the lols then eh?

... Ok you ****ing muppets listen up! eyes up, focus.
I don't care who you are or what you think you are
When you pull on this jumper you are no longer an individual, you have a responsibility to your team mates.
And to those who support you. Does anyone not understand this?

Our goal is 120 minutes of clean, hard at it footy.
When it's your turn you go, we don't compromise. It's pretty simple stuff eh?
The scoreboard dictates everything we do.

Defenders, let's keep this blue and white mob scoreless today, Let's intercept it, shut them down and go.
The first option is usually the best one, and that's why we take it, eh?
Outside mids & half forwards, get on your bike and run your tails off. Lets create mayhem and options when we've got it and
remember care for the footy with your disposal, put your team mates into space. eh?
Forwards, boys I don't need to tell how important this one is but you need to be on from the first bounce and finish your team mates work. Your team mates will be busting their asses off to get it to you, isn't that right boys? get on the move.
Lets give that scoreboard a hiding today.
Mids, one contest at a time, put your team mates into space. Lets be clean eh?

Now, does anyone not know how to tackle? if they beat us in tackles in the first quarter then you better be owning that scoreboard or look out. When you come to the bench point out your feedback to the boys upstairs.
We all know the weak links they have, We'll point out if we find anymore from upstairs as it plays out.

You can bet your bottom dollar these guys are sniffing themselves as a chance here, so let's put that to bed eh?
30 mins of hunt for the pill and care for your teammates!

We do this together ok!
Let's show them what we've got!
They are all yours Captain.

Any chance ROB gets a week to remember how to take a contested mark?

Not joking, last time we dropped him he responded with a dominant game in the Magoo's. I think he needs a serious kick up the keester to get his season started!
I dont even need him to take the mark, but not getting outmarked 10 times a game while being our #1 target out of D50 would be nice.
FFS he cant even get the ball to ground.

If smith misses has Oscar Ryan been putting himself in the frame? Probably the one missing I’d be most excited to be given his chance there
If Smith does miss, given that there's no Parnell or Milera, you'd think Ryan or Curtin would be in with a chance. Both have been okay in the SANFL. Suspect Ryan would be seen as more of a like-for-like. The other possibility would be Nankervis goes back and Sholl comes into the starting team, if they choose to retain Cook.

Given it's a travelling week it would also be a reasonable chance to rest Smith if he needs it.

Moving nank to back flank to accommodate Sholl in is such a Nicks move and by far the worst outcome we could see

We didn't drop Jacobs, he got injured which is how ROB came in. I remember at the time being PO'd because Campo was doing an interview and kept talking about when Jacobs gets his spot back. Was absolutely ZERO talk of "If ROB is playing well then Jacobs may have to earn his spot back through the SANFL" was just a "once he's over his injury he's in" talk.

By the time Jacobs was healthy they couldn't justify bringing him back though because ROB was playing better than Jacobs had been, but as you said, they eventually found an excuse to bring back Jacobs with ROB in the team and they made the weak excuse of dropping ROB when Grundy smashed them both so they could go back to Jacobs solo.

I think Sholl is coming in anyway, but it would be for Cook. But I agree, I'd rather see someone like Ryan get a game off half-back over Cook if it comes to that.

In- Ryan, Curtin, Pedlar, Dowling, Himmleberg
Out- Borlase, Hamill, McHenry, Berry, Gollant

B- Curtin Worrell Michlaney
HB- Hinge Keane Laird
C- Jones Dawson Nankervis
HF- Pedlar Fogarty Keayes
F- Rankine Walker Rachele
FOLL- O’Brien Crouch Soligo
I/C- Dowling, Sholl, Himmleberg, Ryan
Sub- Cook

Why Borlase? Thought he played his role quite fine.

Nicks doesn't trust any of the untried kids in the SANFL team. He would rather play an injured Smith instead of giving Curtin or Ryan a go.
Damien Hardwick quote on 360 tonight. "I think it's better for a kid's development to play 3 or 4 AFL games rather than 12 VFL games". But what would he know - he's only won 3 AFL premierships!!
