Well he can't, signed a 3 year deal.

Players leaving during their initial contract is rare, but not unheard of. Still, doubtful he'll go, unless he's struggling personally. And after the McAsey debacle, I doubt we'll back ourselves in to turn it around. So if he comes to us asking to go, citing personal reasons, I think we'd be more amenable than in the past.

We will see minimal changes as the coaches love continuity and they’d be s**t scared of not playing an experienced side and losing to North, if that was to happen we would have officially hit rock bottom with 3 very hard games to come.

This is what I think they’ll do

In: Crouch, Dowling, EH, Sholl
Out: Berry, McHenry, Gollant, Cook

McHenry will go sub

What I would do:

In: Crouch, Dowling, EH, Curtin, Taylor
Out: Berry, McHenry, Gollant, Smith, Sholl

Cook to sub, struggles to impact on a whole game but has played good qtrs

Laird to play the McHenry role
Crouch replaces Berry
Dowling replaces Cook but gets midfield rotations
Curtin replaces Smith
Taylor replaces Laird in midfield
EH replaces Gollant who is offering nothing. EH can at least ruck

This is Taylor’s 3rd year, season is shot. We need to play him.

But we know what I’ve suggested has no chance of happening

3 unforced changes?

Supporters don't like to hear it but our Senior players haven't been great for the club off field.

They won't want Nicks gone because a new coach will move Sloane, Tex and Smith on. Try to start with a clean slate.

A coach proposing that to our recruitment panel won't get a second interview.

McHenry is literally the worst player to pull on a crows jumper and while I've been a Nick's supporter, this single continued selection has completely flipped me. He offers nothing, he never has and he never will. Nothing against him personally, but he needs to just be desisted and never spoken about again.

Berry obviously injured but unfortunately, not clean enough at ground level.

Smith is absolutely cooked and a complete liability. Has been a great servant of the club, but times up. Needs to be dropped.

Nankervis on the edge, purely because he looks so fatigued. Was struggling at the end of the Carlton game and looked miles off it for the Bombers game. May need a breather.

Yeah I know, but there comes a point even Nicks will have to make changes

Unless Ned has lost his shape holding ability, reckon they'll continue selecting him until Murphy is RTG. Especially if they're going to make 2 other unforced changes. EH or Burgess for Gollant a huge chance as they've both played numerous games. A debut would ordinarily be unlikely in a high likelihood of a win game, these are generally used to get our spuds into form. But Cook for Dowling is a genuine chance.

This is what i'd like to see this week;

Out:
Smith (retired),
McHenry (delisted),
Sholl (delisted),
Hamill (delisted),
Borlase (omitted),
Jones (traded immediately to Tassie)

In:
DOWLING,
Pedlar,
Taylor,
Curtin,
Ryan,
Crouch

  • Laird to HBF, and if he sooks about it, he can be omitted for....oh let's say Moe.
  • Curtin/Nank to rotate through wing / free in Def.

I don't really care too much about the structure, just let a few of the kids do their thing, and show us what they've got.
Hell, get funky and give Cook, Max, Ryan, Curtin, Dowling and Nank some CBAs. Laird can have 0.

Max Keane Curtin
Laird Worrell Hinge
Nank Crouch Dawson
Pedlar Tex Rachele
Keays Fog Gollant
R: ROB Rankine Soligo
I: Berry Dowling Ryan Taylor Cook (sub)

C'mon.

I know it's politically incorrect to not be calling for ROB to be dropped at all times, but he's number 1 for hitouts and number 2 for HO to advantage in the whole league.

Dowling is 19, and was nowhere near a game last year. He's played three games this year. He's hardly spitting chips that he hasn't gotten a game yet - he has only very recently started looking like he could be ready.
ROB leads the league there because of how many ruck contests he attends. He gets volume, not volume and quality.

Gollant and Burgess have a better hitout to advantage rate than ROB does.

Which obviously means very little given how we are going.
You need a ruck to compete around the ground and ROB is a non entity in that space.

If we lose to North the board will hold a meeting about Nicks future, there's no other option. I know we all think they'll say back the boys in and back Nicks in etc., but losing to North to extinguish any flame of hope for 2024, you'd have to call it stumps there and then and start interviewing new candidates.

If we lose.

If North get beaten by Hawthorn today they'll be a game and percentage clear on the bottom of the ladder

With a "free" game at their disposal while still obtaining the number 1 pick, just watch them come out and suddenly play like millionaires against us

No one is kicking bags of goals against us, even when we're getting towelled in the I50 count and with Murray out

There is no priority lower for us than key defender
This, our defence has held up unbelievably well given the injuries, inside 50 count, our lack of pressure on the opposition and the ease they can transition.

It’s our best area of the ground by a million miles.

It’s absolute madness we spent what we did on Curtin to develop him as a KPD on guys like McBean. If he’s playing defence it has to be half back whilst he transitions into the midfield. Let him play his game to his strengths.

If we used valuable draft capital with the intention of drafting a KPD and not another midfielder, I actually want to cry.

Team stats were 4th for hitout and 3rd for hitout to advantage differential. Then 13th for clearance differential, but CAts are 17th and GWS 16th. Goes to show how overrated isolating clearance stats are.
