So we're going to play three first years.

Gulp.

With the bye looming I wonder whether this is just as much about team building (and playing the long game). With the forced outs, I'm not sure what other options there were though? Webb, Dale and Mclean all deserve their chances based on form in the 2's. Hunter clearly didn't have a great game last weekend.

Bloody excited to see McLean play, he's my favourite of all the draftees. (Strange that that is an uncommon view on this board, he was our very first draft selection after all). He's that livewire small forward, Jamie Elliot type player that we've been missing - with Dickson pushing into the wing/midfield now, we don't really have any genuine small forwards as opposed to mid-forwards nowadays. I'm looking forward what havoc he can wreck with Rough and Boyd as big targets and him at their heels.
I reckon he's even more than that, he's got a lovely sidestep and is good through the hips, just generally moves well, so I can definitely see him doing well in the midfield as well. Taking screamers up forward then dancing around players in the midfield, should be really exciting to watch.

You may be able to tell he's my favourite too.

Reckon Stringer and Crameri will be spending a fair bit of time in midfield doing the work of Bonts.

The rest will do Bonts the world of good.

Wow we are so young! It's bloody exciting for the future. Haven't seen much of McLean so looking forward to that. I hope we bring our A game to give it a real good shake

Didn't put this in, but if you take out the three most experienced players from each side, Port are two total games short from being twice as experienced as us.

You're 100% correct in saying that we're really going if we pinch this. It means something when 19 of your blokes have literally half the experience of the equivalent on the other team.
Amazing discrepancy. The drink really does not give a heck for convention. The man does what he wants, and I like it.

So it turns out we weren't just overrating our draftees as usual, they are all actually really good being able to earn spots in a winning team this early in the year. That is incredible, add in Hamling who made his debut last week and Z Cordy who might also be playing now if it weren't for his injuries (And Caleb Daniel too!). Wow, early on it looks another impressive draft from the Dal and his team again.

And 90% of Bigfooty was in uproar on draft night :)

Was Tutt our last debutant against Port? McLean to have a similar debut but actually turn into a player.

A third of the side has played less than a season's worth of games.
Fourteen players with less than fifty games.

If we snatch this one we're really going.

A fact somewhat forgotten after the Saints game (average of two full seasons less Afl games) and the Swans game (three full seasons less) - this is a really young side we are playing. Side is on a massively upward trajectory....

Doesn't feel like we are picking our best possible 22 once again (had this feeling going into the Melbourne game). I guess he wants to play the kids. I'll reserve judgement until after the game.

Given injuries and on exposed ability, the only player that would improve the squad is Talia but not sure there is a match up for him so why not give a kid a crack? He might surprise.

Who should we be picking that isn't in the 22?
