Changes vs Port Adelaide

Ports midfield will **** all over us this week, need huge games from Macrae, Dahl and Wallis if we're going to win, Bont and Picken out kills us there.

We will be relying heavily on keeping the ball in our forward half to kick a score, need a huge selfless game from Crameri pushing upfield to help us out. Stringer needs to kick a bag and Dickson/Boyd to bob up again.

Port have really struggled to bring the ball out of defence effectively. Our forward pressure, if it's on, will cause them problems..... Can we bring the ball quickly through the middle will be the key....

I think we'll be okay. Jong, Wallis and Macrae relieving with Hrovat, Stevens and Dahl is a good quality centre square. Crameri for Bont we don't lose all that much.
Where we downgrade a bit is having McLean cover for Dahl up forward. But that is countered by having Stringer being an upgrade on Biggs.

All in all, similar quality to last week on the park

Some big outs some big ins may be a touch light in the midfield, stringer and crammers will need to spend time through the middle wouldn't be surprised to see moyd go through there too with Bont and picken out. We need one of our first year players to be sub imo either Webb or dale don't like guys sub in their first game.

Hopefully we can do much better than granty as a winger though. You would prefer your wings to be able to carry the ball and kick at speed.

On Wallis, I was never a fan until this year. He's playing some ripping footy this year.

He also played some great games as a hard tag last year, which was what was asked of him.

They were a few weeks ago, but Melbourne running up the white flag (French style) in the 2nd half last week may have skewed the numbers....

A year ago I could not have imagined ever saying this but... Picken is a huge out for us.

I have always had so much admiration for Picken's courage and selflessness, but now I also admire the way he has been able to reinvent himself as an attacking weapon that also has an incredibly hard edge and works so tirelessly. That requires a different type of courage as a person - to step way outside of your comfort zone and give your all in a completely new role.

I really respect you Liam Picken. You'll be missed on Saturday. Get back soon!

Yeah i agree with this. We migth see a fair bit of Stringer in the midfield this week

Not sure I like Stringer in the midfield against a team like Port (who run very hard offensively). Despite his undoubted ability at the stoppages, Stringer is probably better used against a team like Freo or Sydney who have the big bodies in their but don't possess the run and gun like Port Adelaide do.

Happy to see Crameri play on a wing this week but except for the odd stoppage or two don' see any benefit of Stringer in the midfield with a team who run so hard offensively. Either he's not going to chase them or he won't have the endurance to make an impact going the other way and really Stringer wouldn't be in their to provide defensive pressure, hes in there to get the ball.

Others like Koby, Jong, Macrae etc really need to step up and help Wally and Dahl.

i found the montgomery preview interesting and i'm surprised nobody's mentioned this but he threw out a huge hint that Stringer will develop his game a bit in the next couple months. Huge hint he'll sit in on more stoppages in this game.

It's something he's done a bit of this year not to much effect, but if he gets good at it it'll be a huge weapon.

People shouldn't scare themselves to think that "we're turning him into a midfielder". We're simply expanding his ability to pinch hit in there. You don't take goal sense like his out of the forward line for too long at a time

68 to 70 kg x4 is hardly ready to step up to AFL level, but lets face
facts not many draftees should be expected to step up in their first
year, so recently we have done well in that respect.

I agree Tommycash they do have poise and skill, but even Murphy and Gia
both recruited at 68 kg took one and two years respectively to make
their debuts. Hindsight makes drafting easy, i think Cory Gregson from
Geelong has been one of the best draftees to date and he went pick
47 was also South Australian as i said though hindsight is easy.

I don't know about that.
This team seems to cover for men that go down. The system and team structure adapts and new soldiers come in well drilled in the game plan and team rules.
This is where having our own VFL team pays dividends.

We are a massive chance this week.

4 debutants this year so far and if Daniel fires and Hamilton keeps improving that could mean that we'll have 2 more before the end of the season. Zaine Cordy needs to get a witch doctor to undo the curse on his jumper so we might be able to make 7.
