I sometimes wonder about our supporters - the calls to drop Apeness - words fail me.

Matera is surely getting dropped. Was singled out for lack of effort at 1qt, and didn't respond. Tucker is another whose output is just not to standard, was fumbly everytime he had the opportunity to do something.

The unfortunate side of things is the guys at WAFL level really aren't putting their hand up (except Pearce oddly enough). Duman has probably done enough to get a run, and I'd bring him in for Tucker and play him is less of a defensive role. He could hardly do worse...

Second potential change is obviously Bennell, who would come in for Matera, but it seems they aren't comfortable pulling the trigger on this just yet, so Ballas may get another run.

It would be nice to bring McCarthy in, but he has done nothing to suggest he deserves a recall, which is a shame.

These next four games are going to be tough until Tabs and Fyfe are back. The last three may be bearable so long as the injuries don't continue. Already looking to next year in a way - it will be great to have a full pre-season under the belt of Crowden, Cerra, Brayshaw, Giro et al. The squad honestly looks very young at the moment, so as hard as these games are to watch, I am thankful that there is the odd game where it has clicked and we have looked like a solid team. This does give hope moving forward.

but next.

Apeness if we are honest was lucky he got on the park this year, otherwise he was a bust.
Michael has come out and said he is now a ruckman, so why play two, when our forward line is missing
a forward?
What happens to Ape when Tabs is back?

I don't agree with keeping Bennell at Peel until he has played a full game. He'd only be playing 60-70% at AFL so IMO he's better off getting those minutes in at AFL level than at Peel. I also don't think Giro deserves to lose his spot because nobody at Peel is pushing him out.

If there's any changes at all i'd swap Matera for Bennell, more to send the message to Brandon that his form's been shite.

Tabs is a forward not a ruck.

I've been a fan of Apeness, but I think he could use a rest. The conditions on Sat would have taken it out of anyone.

I think Tucker should go back to Peel as he's not getting enough of the pill.

Duman definitely to come in. Has done enough at Peel to demand selection.

Matera I think needs a go at the seconds. He hasn't been great.

Only player putting hand up for selection is DP unfortunately, he was awful last time against Port. Only other player I'd consider is North, but he looks like he's being managed. Bennell needs to play a full match at Peel possibly two.

Matera -> DP (North would be my preference)

Apeness -> Strnadica

Second ruck/forward is

Tabs is just a forward.

The hard call will be when Sandi, Darcy, Apeness and Tabs are all fit.

Giro played against Melbourne.
Those saying Apeness will go out will be surprised. But he is a dead set certainty to play. He has had to ruck alomst a full game against the Lions at a minutes notice. He had to ruck over half the game on the weekend due to Darcy being short of a couple of runs. Lyon will play him in all games from here in to get his body up to AFL scratch.
Matera is an out. Hopefully Bennell will get a start.We have to find out just how interested he is in wanting to play.
Ballas is on thin ice I reckon so may not get a recall.

It is beyond me why fans are asking for ape to be dropped, people are forgetting he’s been asked to be a number 1 ruck in recent times having had 2 years off and played only a handful of games. He got found out a little in 27 degree heat and against the best ruck in the comp playing back up as well. This means he’s playing forward most of the time now. The ball only entered the forward line 28 times the whole night wat opportunities did he really have to influence the game? I think he needs consistent time in the 22 and I believe he will be a very serviceable play if he can stay fit.

Yeah and that was me. He did look fatigued on Saturday night. He has a good run of games right now just like he did in the end of 2016 : 5 games and 3 goals. Strnadica should be considered.

Its weird though, Darcy is out only decent ruckman Available but we have Jones, Strnadica and Apeness as 200cm forwards that can ruck.

Normally I’d agree that it is a step in the wrong direction bringing in Ballantyne but Matera is a senior player and his effort was woeful. Tucker is out of form and needs a spell at Peel. Duman has played two good games for Peel.

I’d consider Strnadica for Apeness but probably worth persisting with the Darcy/Apeness combo.

No. Peronally rather Kersten go forward and help out. McCarthy is in awful form, harder doing anything for Peel either. He has to earn it just like Tabs and Kersten have.

Why would Kersten or Apeness be dropped after that? Kersten was one of our better defenders and I thought Apeness tried hard considering delivery and Gawn as an opponent.
