Changes Vs Port Adelaide

Cant see them dropping Sansbury..we need as much goal scoring ability that we can get..He wasnt that bad either..couple of clangers but did some nice things too.Dont think Thomas,Djars or Campbell would provide more than Sansbury or Green

Only change i reckon will be Green in for either Hansen or Lower.Love to see Lower retained as did a good job,but they may want to keep Hansens height against Port ,plus he'll be better for the run too

In: Brown (also last chance + a chance to increase his trade value)

He's had numerous last chances this year and don't believe he'll get yet another one. If he does I will be gobsmacked. Pretty sure we've seen the last of LB.

What's more - I am not inclined to use a preliminary final to enhance a player's trade value. It's a shame, as he has some ability, just not enough presence around the ground or determination in a contest. We'll be lucky to get anything more than a third rounder for him I reckon.

You obviously didn't see the game......Sandsbury is a waste of space out there.....he doesn't want the ball and will constantly run in circles and offer no resistance whatsoever....and his clangers....well!! Anyone not playing in the ones at present would be better then Eddy.....!

I have been one of the critics of Eddie in the past, and really am still ambivalent as to whether he remains on the list at the end of the season. He is a confidence player - I think he will be inclined to have those games where he makes mistakes and then he'll have games where he is on song. There really isn't much in between.

If he does play (and I would prefer he doesn't), he should only be used in the forward half of the ground. He is not strong enough or trustworthy enough with his disposal under pressure to be rebounding from defense.

That means he should essentially play as the small forward and would be competing with Thomas or Campbell for that spot.

Campbell sure is great at chasing.

Cant recall the last time I saw a ball in his hands though.

Djars thanks, failing that Thomas.

None of the 3 quick 'brothers' will be playing this week.

Djars, Matty C & LT stayed back after training with the VFL squad for light skills work. The senior squad shot through to St Kilda Baths.

IN: Green & Campbell
OUT: Hansen & Sandsbury

If Sandsbury is not dropped this week, we are not fairdinkum.......I would love to see Hansen get another game, but I think Greens toughness and tagging abilities would be handy against Port...!

Port Adelaide are arguably the quickest team in the comp.

Green & Brown would both be liabilities and a massive risk. For that reason, I can't see either getting recalled this week.

Could that be because they didn't play in the semi final? I would expect the St Kilda baths would have been a recovery session.

From Woodville, I believe.

Look, I could be wrong on this, but I'm not sure Fles was necessarily calling for Scotty's head himself, just remarking that he could be the ("unlucky") one that gets ommitted.

As I said, I could be wrong. And if I am then I agree, it's crazy talk.

Your initial assessment Tod was on the money, thats exactly what i meant.

EL, where for f*** sake did i say Scotty was not good enough, played badly or anything else? I simply said he could be an unlucky omission if they really want to go for some added zip.

McMahon comes from Woodville/West torrens Eagles, my local club. Do you think i do not have a soft spot for him? I have seen him play a bit of football before he came to the Roos and have a pretty good appreciation of his talent.

Not sure where some of the conclusions were drawn from?

Fles ... I disagree with your statement that he might be the unlucky one to be omitted. I can't understand why you would think they would omit him, even if they are looking for extra pace. I neither have a soft spot nor a hard spot for him, but unless our match selection committee have an unprecedented brain fade, he will be in the 22 as a result of his past 2 performances, and of those earlier this year. Those who would be dropped before him include Hansen and Sansbury to name 2.

I gather that you agree with my assesment of his strengths, however I missed a couple ... versatility ... he can play forward or back. Played very well off the back flank against the dogs in the second half. I have mentioned his leap ... very handy when 3rd man up or out of position. Has good disposal skills. Finally, he is not slow by any means.

Hansen ... does not look strong enough yet to take a contested mark so there is no point in playing him as a tall forward. Was overawed a few times and made mistakes as a result. Tried very hard, will be good, but is not ready yet. If he gets picked, I hope he proves me wrong.

Green ... he is an honest footballer, however, he is one paced and this will hurt us against speedy Port. His decision making skills in disposing of the football are muddled. He often does not take the first and best option. Once again, if he is picked, I hope he proves me wrong.

Brown ... 10,000 posts have detailed why he should not play. I would play Hansen because in front of Brown due to Hansen's pace and agility.

Campbell ... has had a very good season with VFL side ... would be likely to get more of the footy now as he is in good touch. Offers awesome chasing/pressure skills and I would go with him due to Ports pace.

Either way as they should be taking a 25 man squad over. It is forecast 25 degress, however you never know and if it were to rain, you'd want the option of playing a small.

EL, the rationale behind why i said McMahon COULD be unlucky and get dropped is pretty well for extra speed. Scotty is no slow coach but i don't think he is quite as quick as some have rated. Thats just a personal opinion. Plus the selectors did indeed drop him as recently as round 21 vs Carlton where only a late injury earnt him a reprieve and i just have a feeling that the selectors MAY be a little shaky on him.

McMahon would be very stiff indeed to get dropped, but this is North Melbourne after all. How many selections this year have raised some eyebrows amongst the fans. Leigh Brown has only just worn out his welcome and who would have been surprised if he had of been a late call up vs the hawks last saturday. lol I don't want McMahon dropped but i have got used to some surprising team selections this year.

I don't think Sansbury will be dropped simply for his ability to run with the Port speedsters and that JYD seems to have a lot of faith in him.

mcmahon is no chance to be dropped, i'll throw up if he is dropped an if green or brown come in too...my bucket is ready unfortunately

hansen deserves another go...look at the first final JWS played vs his second...he is a better option than green or brown and is a bit of a wild card vs a dud card we all know of....x factor men are have won finals in the past, its no risk to play him

sansbury is in the brown green class too...we know his capabalities and he looks great when we are 5 goals up but when the heat is on, something goes off in his head

i'd bring in a thomas who can get to the midfield for short bursts and give us some speed on the wings to attack ports lesser defence that is their weakness

summary
out sansbury
in thomas

OUT: Lower
IN: Green

Nothing against Lower's performance which was promising, but Kasey has experience in the big games, gives us an extra defensive option, and can be used in a 'run with' role on one of the slower Port mids (maybe Cassisi.)

Would like to see Hansen kept in the team. Not only for the experience, but as an attacking option. The person that we would replace for Hansen would most likely be Brown or Moran, and I think Hansen can be used as a defensive option (on possibly Westhoff) and we be a good matchup on Carlile who would most likely line up on him, should both play.
Otherwise, I am not too bothered if we drop Hansen and bring in Thomas. Just out of curiousity how is Ross progressing?

Fair call ... yes there have been some strange selections but I would say Hansen will be the only one to get dropped. Eddie kicked 5 in a SANFL GF at Footy Park ... good memories for him and time to do it again.

I dont see the logic in that ... it's an old football cliche. You pick your best 22 and if you make a change, so be it.

why would you tag cassisi,he is a tagger himself and i think green should tag chad cornes when his in the midfield.

Lachy will be better for the run, hadn't played for a long time and was in many respects a stupid decision to play in the first place, now that we have gone with him must play him out of the square and use him. He made so many unsuccessful leads against Hawthorn it was shocking, i felt really sorry for him. But he persisted and got involved and never ran out of gas.

I say he is the clone of one Chad Cornes and should go to him and play the game of his life.

Come on Lachy you can do it!!!

No change, green will be useless against them, is a liability with the ball and has questionable decision making.

Come on you roosssss

All,

I tell you what I like this comment about Lachy being compared to Chad Cornes...I reckon that could be spot on as Lachy develops. Wow! GOLD.

Lachy can play either end, has the tank to run in the midfield, play key position & dare I say the ability to win matches. Add time & BANG! There's not many around with the ability to do that.

Having said that I think Lachy's the future & Laidley will bring in Green.

IN: Green.
OUT: Hansen.

Kanga Guru.
