I think he made an impact up forward last year; and I think he showed some promising signs in the early games as a forward this year - albeit in a very different role.

We can't do any worse than playing one of our best defenders up forward IMO.
Yeah I agree with what (I think) you are saying on Rivers. Seems like it works for a little bit each game but he's of more value to us down back I think. But Jeez we've been benefitting from Watts' cool head and good kicking rebounding from defence. And I also think it's good for Watts playing down back. He has no choice but to involve himself more in the game when playing down back, because if he doesn't we concede goals.

It's a tough one.

For those of you who read Demonblog I'm going to have to go with Super: I would love to see Howe put in the forward line for close to four quarters next week - history has shown that this year his set shot kicking has been woeful but he can take a grab and we're dying for a strong marking target down there.
Absolutely. Between Petterd and Howe who have similar attributes and body types, I think Howe is the better forward and strangely enough I think Petterd is the better midfielder. Would be very interseted in seeing Howe play out the season as a mostly permanent forward and Petterd play as a mostly permanent mid.

thought we played alright against freo and probably our best footy all year during the 1st qtr so minimal changes this week

Out: Jamar, Bennell
In : Fitzpatrick, Gysberts

Watts hasn't played his best footy the last few weeks so give him a game at Casey if he's right to play, then back in the following week

Magner had the week off to freshen up, it will be interesting to see where they go with him.

Darwin usually sorts everyone out in trying conditions, we'll really need players who can cover ground for 4 quarters. As much as it pains me to say this, Morton might be an option. Not sure this is the week to bring in kids coming back like Gys.

Yeh good call on Gys/Morton.

We've got Moloney, Gys and Magner available as inside mids but I think Couch should retain his spot for a few weeks.

Given the conditions I'm not sure if Strauss should play. Although I love his foot skills out of the back half.

I would do this:

In. Watts, Sellar, Jetta, Spencer
Out. Jamar, Bennell, Bate, Petterd

Ideally I'd like to see Gysberts, Tapscott and even Magner back but you can't make more than 4 changes in a week IMO.

Jetta blitzes it in Darwin, is a pretty handy player and has some form for Casey (although not a lot). Play him and if he's stuffed by 3 quarter time then sub him out. Or start him as the sub.

Playing Jetta does have some merit given the location. I would be intrigued to see what role he might play... he's been playing back for Casey for the most part. Not sure about dropping Petterd for that though, he deserves a fair crack at the seniors for a few weeks.

Sellar and Martin to take the ruck forward, Fitzpatrick to play forward, Jetta at his feet and rotating through the midfield with Petterd.

The last quarter will be interesting - we've died in the arse the last couple of games up there, but Port have hardly been stellar at the end of games of late (the North game an exception).

Both Casey and the Casey Dev Team have the bye this week so that could have a bearing on things. Those who don't play Darwin will get a good break and those coming back like Gys and Jetta will have to play Darwin if they want continuity. Magner to have 2 weeks break in a row? - I'm not sure.

In: Fitzpatrick, Watts, Sellar

Out: Jamar (calf), Bennell (knee), J. MacDonald

- Fitzpatrick has been blitzing the last few games and offers more than Spencer
- Sellar gives us more versatility
- Nothing against Joel but Watts is just better

Joel played a very good game last week despite a couple of clangers.

Bate had only 6 touches in a game where we were very competitive for 3 quarters. Not enough. Played forward, Watts in to replace him there wouldn't be a bad move...
