I was confining what you said a player needs to show 3 good form weeks in the sanfl. So that means no one can be picked out of the sanfl for 3 weeks. Ie no changes according to you can be made?
In the case of a youngster, building a case for promotion to the big league.. then 3 good games would be a minimum.

In the case of an established player returning from injury, or having been banished from the team (Stiffy), then 1 or 2 may suffice. I'm betting Smith will come straight back into the team without playing any SANFL games at all.

Did you disagree with crouch and callinan?

We need to bring Johncock and Kerridge in next. We HAVE to reward good SANFL form, otherwise me may as well just have boys run laps when they aren't named in the side.

No and no.

Crouch is an exception, being the most talented & highly rated recruit we've had since the arrival of Andrew McLeod almost 20 years ago. Players like that get treated differently, being fast tracked into the team. Besides, he had outstanding form behind him going back to the 2012 SANFL season.

Callinan is a "best 22"/"automatic selection" player (based on 2012 team selections, when he played 23 of 25 games). On that basis, he was brought straight back into the senior team as soon as he was passed fit for duty - just as (I'm hoping) Brodie Smith will be in the very near future.

I hope Smith is coming back, because both Jaensch and Mackay were pretty handily beaten by their opponents today. I'd drop them both if we actually had two alternatives. How was Tambling in the SANFL?
Tambling seems to be playing the drop off role at Sturt, drifting around half back, running and creating, third man up at times. Playing ok but not really much of a defensiveness to his game. No different to Jaensch and we've already got Mackay and Reilly down back as creative players too.

Cannot see Tambling coming in.

Paul Roos pointed out after the Essendon game how many of our players are 'see ball get ball' players. He highlighted some stupid errors by Reilly where he went for the ball, didn't impact the contest and his man ended up with the footy. He said we didn't have players like Nick Smith and Alex Johnson who have the defensive side to their game.

However, he needs to do that consistently for at least 3 weeks running before he would be considered by the selectors. He's young & his turn will come - but he needs to make it happen by performing consistently.

chuckle, chuckle. We have so many players in outstanding form who do you drop.

To me Vince's time has come, Matty J did nothing until his ankle & goal, and the Callinan selection set him up to fail

For me I would drop this trio for Kerridge, Smith (if Fit) and Lynch however I can't see Nutter getting dropped as this would be egg on the faces of the selection committee

Amazed that Porplyzia was sub and is supposedly under the pump. Obviously our coaching group have not watched the finals matches back again, ever. Just write them off and hope we play better next time.

But at least he looked a cut above when he came on.

IMO these players should be ahead of him to be dropped (not that I think they should be dropped... just saying): Petrenko, Callinan, Vince, Jaensch, van Berlo, Mackay, Henderson.

Would love to see Kerridge in this week. Even if it is as the sub, just would be a great experience to play an away Showdown while he is in good form and we're coming off a win. Timing is perfect. Callinan back to SANFL for a full game run around, Porps into the forward line and Kerridge as the sub. Win-win-win.

Edit - how genius of Petrenko to play a crap game once as the sub. Now he can't be the sub because he "isn't good at coming on midway through a game"... brilliant. That's why you should always make crappy cups of coffee at the office, so no one asks you again.

Well thats good, looks like Westhoff is playing his Showdown today. Hopefully back to his spud-tacular best next week! :D

Carl - would you really call Reilly creative? He's a good kick (brain fades aside), but he rarely ever runs and carries with it.
Well, no.

But he isn't a lock down defender by any stretch.

So we have to call him something :p

And it didn't really work. Should have come back thru SANFL to be cherry ripe for showdown.

The sad thing is no, he really isn't. Even in his RS 2nd place year he was a pretty bad kick, and it hasn't gotten any better.
He disposal wasn't that bad I can remember 1 bad kick and his disposal efficiency was above average

It's hard to argue, given how poor he was in the 3 quarters he played.

I'm just explaining the logic behind his selection - as I see it coming from the selectors. I don't necessarily agree with it. In this case, I think a run in the SANFL would have been beneficial.

When Smith is passed fit, I think the selectors will have leant from Ian Callihan today and won't rush him back.

Smith hurt hs collarbone in the first NAB cup game and hasn't played since, this will make his comeback more difficult as he won't have been able to touch a football for a while. He will come back via the Eagles.

Vader, being best 22 should guarantee you selection after missing a month, being top 10 should and Nutter is not top 10

Is Rory Laird able to debut? His form in the past two games is just as good, if not better than Kerridge...

No, on the rookie list and we don't have anyone on the long term injury list.

Just out of interest, have you seen his games or just going by the stats?

Stats lie. False evidence because it doesn't tell you what they did with it, where it was obtained and what happened the next set of play.

Form can not be told via stats.

Depends upon the player and the type of injury they've suffered. Someone returning from a leg injury will probably have lost a fair bit of fitness due to an inability to run. Someone with an arm injury should be able to maintain a reasonable level of fitness.

Either way, today provided us with strong evidence that Callinan is the type of player who needs a run in the magoos to gain match fitness, before being promoted back into the seniors.

Basing it off stats I guess... :P
