Basing it off stats I guess... :P

That's cool but you know, i guess a few players from the Melbourne football Club will pick up 20 odd touches and that's what the stats will say but in reality, they won't have played well.

I'm not suggesting Kerridge or Laird is or isn't playing well, I'm just saying that you can not get the entire store from just the stats.

Out: Callinan, Vince, Jaench
In: Johncock (in defense), Lyons, Martin

Mackay also close to getting axed.

Smith if fit to have 1 run in the SANFL.

True. Got a point there.

Guess I'm assuming Laird is doing better as his stats tend to say so, but I get the proviso that stats don't tell the who story.

He disposal wasn't that bad I can remember 1 bad kick and his disposal efficiency was above average

Otten had 3 kicks and 4 handpasses, and two of those kicks were terrible turnovers straight to the Lions on their half forward line. That makes him 33% by foot for the day.

I imagine Rory Laird will get up graded sometime this season.

Tambling seems to be playing the drop off role at Sturt, drifting around half back, running and creating, third man up at times. Playing ok but not really much of a defensiveness to his game. No different to Jaensch and we've already got Mackay and Reilly down back as creative players too.

Cannot see Tambling coming in.

Paul Roos pointed out after the Essendon game how many of our players are 'see ball get ball' players. He highlighted some stupid errors by Reilly where he went for the ball, didn't impact the contest and his man ended up with the footy. He said we didn't have players like Nick Smith and Alex Johnson who have the defensive side to their game.
Tambling is best when attacking and on a wing. the day they tried to make him a defender ruined him

His ball use was alright in his debut year though - what's happened to him? He's turned into a decent defender but lost his ability to win the footy and use It well?

Vince is on the edge. So much ability. And so underachieving. Needs a rocket.
Having said that, he does go well in showdowns........

I fear bernie's knee means we'll never see him truly flying again.

Port will be absolutely rampant early next week. What are people's early thoughts/feelings?

Callinan should go back to Central's after his return game was ultimately a wrong call. Hopefully they recognise that and make him play a few to get up to speed. Johncock seems to have earnt the return in his place.

There's a lot of love for Kerridge right now. I see him as Lyons V.2013.

To me, what he is doing now is what Lyons was doing last season. And Lyons is still doing it now. They are similar players so he get the gig first IMO.

I too would bring Smith back via WWT for 1 game only to regain touch mostly. He would have been running at least for the last 3 weeks or so.

So my changes would be;

Outs
Callinan, Jeansch/Vince

Ins
Johncock, Lyons/Martin

From memory someone posted that last week he won the club best player award, plus he won a media award of some description.

Probably gives the stats some context.

I never said he didn't play well. I've said he should get upgraded. I simple said, you can not compare them against someone else as their are too many unknown variables.

Would drop Vince he has been crap two weeks in a row. Smith has been training for a week or so Callinan was ordinary and should have played for the Doggies this week. Smith if fit is a in and plays Jaensch's role and MJ goes to Vince's role.

Over the last 2 games Reilly, Jaensch and Vince have been our most disappointing with McKay and Van Berlo bringing up the rear.
Important that we won for several of those players. Will grant them a reprieve.

All credit to Port they can only beat the opposition that is put in front of them however with Melb being smashed tonight by 150+ pts and port backing up against GWS in an emotional tribute match it's difficult to draw a conclusion

One thing we do know is port defence is young and the port side overal will have a fair bit of showdown inexperience, however their speed will be a concern

port has tuned up against 2 bottom 4 sides however its Time to give them a reality check

No and no.

Crouch is an exception, being the most talented & highly rated recruit we've had since the arrival of Andrew McLeod almost 20 years ago. Players like that get treated differently, being fast tracked into the team. Besides, he had outstanding form behind him going back to the 2012 SANFL season.

Callinan is a "best 22"/"automatic selection" player (based on 2012 team selections, when he played 23 of 25 games). On that basis, he was brought straight back into the senior team as soon as he was passed fit for duty - just as (I'm hoping) Brodie Smith will be in the very near future.
Callinan is on the fringe of our best-22 & should not have been rushed back in, given we had other options.

Rushing Smith back in would be a desparate move this early in the season, particularly given Jaensch actually showed some good form.

I would bring in Stiffy & Martin or McKernan for Callinan & Vince. Callinan did less than Stiffy last week & Stiffy gives us a defensive option. Would like to see us play a 2nd ruck as Sauce will be up against 2 legitimate ruckmen & I like him as a forward option.

Looks like Justine Westhoff is warming up for the Showdown
Surely he got his 1 good game/month out of the way tonight. Perhaps he thought it was a showdown playing on Davis...

We'll get past them comfortably. No concern at all

Some people are talking up Petrenko's game like its the second coming. This should be a STANDARD game for him, but when you come off such a low base it gives that impression.

Luke Brown had a good game, but I'm sorry if Smith is fit then he should come back in for him. I do not however think Smith should come straight in for Showdown, a run in the SANFL after missing a bit of footy.

Callinan back to the Dogs, poor selection by Sanderson, Callinan will play some footy this year no doubt, but he was wrong to get a start. Johncock in for him, but he doesn't go forward. Johncock goes back, McKay is released in to Vince's role which seems to be some sort of quasi wing and Vince up forward. I like a Bernie/Tex forward line, with Jerka lurking. That sounds like a bit of fun.

Also if somehow VB is suspended then Mitch Grigg in before Kerridge for me

In summary

Smith (if fit) > Brown
Johncock > Callinan
Johncock > HB
McKay > Midfield/Wing
Vince > Forward
Grigg > VB (if suspended)

So which Port player will tear us apart then?
Hopefully no one ... but make not mistake, next week will not be an easy game as Port are now back to playing as a team with an even contribution. Think Wright needs to take Hartlett for starters.

There should be some, won't be a walk over. Will definately need our a grade game out. Our Midfield will need to be better than the first two weeks.

In summary

Smith (if fit) > Brown
Johncock > Callinan
Johncock > HB
McKay > Midfield/Wing
Vince > Forward
Grigg > VB (if suspended)
Brown out & Grigg in ????
