He seemed ready 2 years ago. Im not saying he is the guy for Westhoff. Talia will obviously take him
I thought he was still making too many mistakes 2 years ago.

He needs to polish his game & reduce the flaws.

I think you are right in everything you said.

Cats best players carried them over the line. Our best were found wanting.

Danger to full forward even for a spell would have been worth a roll of the dice.

Selwood was allowed to roam along with Bartel. Geez FFS these guys are Geelong legends and there is no hard tag on them.

They smashed us on the rebound last night, I would hate to thing what the Power may do on Saturday arvo.

By the time we field our best time, the season may possibly have passed us by. :(

I did a simple exercise and checked out the Fantasy points. Before everyone jumps up and down I used them purely as a indicator and not a method to do an in depth analysis of our game. What I took out of it was that our mids were completely outscored by Geelong's mids. Simple Prior to the game Sando was saying the game would be won and lost in the midfield and he was right. I admit a very simply analysis.

Lyons showed last year he can kick goals when up forward, so he I no 1 trick-pony.
His four goal game against Collingwood was a complete fluke. And I'm a huge fan of Lyons. I think cmdstab is right in saying that it's onball or bust.

Fortunately the coaches seem to have woken up to this. He should get a good shot next week.

Im worried about the midfield battle, who the hell do we tag, boak, ebert or polec, then if wines is allowed off the leash he is dangerous, not to mention grey and wingard running through there, they wont even bother going to thomo, so danger is going to have to deal with kane cornes, dont even want to think about westhoff floating around like a bad smell.

Jacobs will own lobbee, hes back in form, and our forward line should be to big for their young backline

Hoping for rain to slow them down, if we can make it a dog fight we can do it.

I'm not overly worried about polec (touch wood). Most of his good work was in the last quarter when Carlton were already on the bus home. That won't happen in a showdown.

They don't have any real standout in their midfield that demands a hard tag off the mark. Have to wait and see who is performing on the day and be flexible.

Westhoff needs to be shut down as a priority.

My concern was how deep their midfield runs, not to mention the pinch hitters like, monfries, white and broadbent, i think boak will get the first tag, im looking forward to eddie pulling impeys pants down also.

Which midfielders in our team can play multiple roles? Apart from Dangerfield?

Sloane can play wing.

Wright can play up forward.

What's wrong with staying on the ball? Apart from his fitness, which will only improve.

Reading the Port board , most of their members are already bookmarking Port to smash us in the showdown even before the ball has been bounced. Quite sad really!

Why wouldn't they be?

Good, let them. And lets not have one of those idiotic banter threads this time round. Allan Border policy on these arrogant twats

It's simple You tag Boak's, we are not going to tag Polec who is a rookie player

I dont care what he is, he cant be left to kick 60m goals

edit = forgot about hartlet too.

IMO it's difficult to draw a line in Port's form

Port's win over the Blues was no more impressive than our NAB cup win over them and for the short period of time (1st qtr) when Carlton did apply pressure Port didn't handle it to well, the issue was Carlton's complete inability to sustain pressure for long period of times.

All credit to Port as they can only beat the opposition in front of them however Carlton are no Geelong, not even close and IMO Carlton's lack of work rate, off the ball pressure and two way running took them out of the game and contributed heavily to the loss.

IMO we played a top 6 side on the weekend who are just about unbeatable at home whilst Port played a bottom 8 side with an average list that are well known for one way running

This is why it is dangerous to draw to many round 1 conclusions as it is difficult to compare apples with apples

How often do the raging favorites to a showdown win?

Port may go in as the bookie favourites however it won't be raging favourites

I've always believed it is a little foolish to bet in the open 2-3 rounds as it us extremely difficult to get an accurate baseline on form

I don't they should be absolute favorites but their fans are acting like it.

Hilarious Jaensche was one of Adelaides best defenders last night, hell probably one of the standout players in the game with a bunch of blokes in mid field doing incredibly little and poorly when they had the chance. What was it like 50 fumbles?
If players were picked on form how does Pods get in the side can't even take uncontested marks? And what exactly keeps Jenkins out?
Thompson looks disinterested and if that was porplyzia back to form HA what bloody form is that.
Matty Wright was rubbish and unaccountable. Is anyone out there watching their opponent?
Forget the Cats outs Douglas is streets ahead of them for impact. He's well ahead of the other mids beside Dangerfield.

I'd bloody well put Jenkins in mid field, Danger has no help in there what so bloody ever in the muscle department. Jenkins is one of the sides quickest players and he throws his weight around, thommo needs to start blocking for Danger and tagging his player and quit being the slow bloke that gets the tap down and it goes nowhere.
Jenkins would smash Westhoff in every department, why not put him on ball, look where Jacobs gets all his possession...He isn't setting the world on fire with ruck work Geelong won that department he's getting it around the ground out marking mids.
Every side is going for a tall mid like fyfe, why not a massive one Smack wasnt getting much hassle taking his little jogs through the mid field.

agree.

2 years ago he was making too many mistakes. but you take it.
He's still making too many mistakes.

I'm happy enough for now if he gets a few games to get into it. But if he's still doing it in round 3, it's time to have a spell in the ressies.

Polec is not a player you tag from the opening bounce. He hasn't earnt that yet.

Sure if he gets off the leash you put someone on him. But there are many more to in front of him for that sort of attention.

He strikes me as a pretty easy type to shut down if given any close attention.

Lyons is a player who can only play well in one role, playing in an era where players are expected to rotate and adapt.
The good news is that it's the one role on the ground that counts most and also all our other players suck balls at it

Sando doesnt seem to think like this though, because thommo and porps are killing it.
