I'd be happy for any of Podsiadly, Jaensch, Brown, Martin or Porplyzia to be squeezed out of the team for M Crouch to sneak in. Yes most aren't exactly like for like but all teams have enough flexibility now to cover this. And you can't tell me any of those players will have more impact on our football club from now on than Crouch, therefore he should be picked ahead of them every time.
Luke Brown? are you joking or actual serious?

Not sure what Brown is doing in that list. Great young talent that will play 200 games for the AFC. Agree Crouch needs to play and soon but missing the GWS game with illness cost him.

As with the others - would suggest replacing Brown in that list for Mackay.

I like Brown too but you fill your key midfield roles before your back pockets. I'd like both of them in but Crouch gets picked first.

What planet are we on?

Does anyone SERIOUSLY think that the fortunes of our club will swing more on the performances of Luke Brown over the next 10 years compared to Matt Crouch?

I'm speechless.

The thing is, we have injuries, if he can't get a game now, then when?
There is no possible way that Matt Crouch can play this season.

Unless we get even more injuries.

Or the coaching staff have a complete overhaul of their thinking.

So you have a side with 2x dangerous smalls - Gray/ Monfries - and you have a small defender who has been groomed for 2 years and who made the position his own last year - and you want him dropped.

So who matches up on these guys if Brown goes ?

I like Matt to play too but Brown plays a complete different position to him

M Crouch will play games this year, but forget about him for a good month + as needs to build up endurance in the SANFL 1st.

Douglas will come in if doctor clears him.

I suspect Laird will come in - if not, then Reilly - but doubt both.

As for Bone wanting JJ ahead of Smack - has he even been watching pre-season games? JJ will be back, once he has regained touch & fitness.

Can't afford passengers/underdone players!

Sando has said Matt Crouch will play games this season.

But there is no rush as we have more seasoned players right now.

Monfries, Wingard, Gray, etc ... & you want to drop our best small fit defender for a fringe midfielder...

Glad you are not on the selection panel!

If anything, we will bring in our other quality small defender as well!

Sando on 5AA sounded much more pro-Reilly than Laird.

Personally, I don't like the idea of dropping players only one game into the season but Douglas has to come in if fit. Mackay can go. Let Martin have the wing. I really want to see him given a few games in a row. If he doesn't perform, so be it, but it would be just rotten to be delisted without ever getting a decent run at it in five years.

Carl - is BoB THAT good? (to consider bringing him in and say matching up on Gray instead of Brown) I have high hopes for him but not he's not Brad....
Think Carl has forgotten the need for team balance... ;)

Think Sando is pro both players ... & will come down to playing whoever is more ready, as not worth risking both.

I'd say they are equal in terms.

M.Crouch could definitely become an elite midfielder, but who is to say Brown couldn't become an elite defender (and he's tracking well for that at the moment). To be a premiership threat, we need as many elite players as possible. Playing Crouch in expense of Brown is robbing Peter to pay Paul and something that shouldn't even be considered.

Can't wait until the teams come out tommorrow night :D

I'm thinking perhaps we won't debut a player until after the first 3 rounds as they are all tough.

I disagree. As players, they'd learn more against a Sydney then a St.Kilda right now.

And we should be trying to fast-track anyone we believe will be guns.

I loved Laird last year but I just don't see how he's ready to go. He's done nothing but run laps for the last three or so months. Just setting the kid up to fail.

He's a gun who thrives on the contest.

Throw him in the fire, he's up to it.

Not sure if it's recommended, but Malthouse often debuted players in critical/hyped-up matches; the Anzac day game for instance. Having said that, I think bringing in M. Crouch would be a mistake at this point. I don't know if his criticisms pre-draft were warranted, but if they were, he is the kind of person that I personally would like to prove themselves in the SANFL... I did think the same of Polec before I saw him in the NAB cup, however.

As far as selection goes, I don't think that you guys need to make as many changes as everyone here seems to be suggesting. The only change I would make personally would be Laird for Martin. I didn't rate Martin against the Cats and, personally, I thought Laird had a better year last year than Crouch - I know that's probably not going to be a very popular opinion however. You have to think about match ups, and from past experience, Betts has absolutely killed us in the past. Going in too tall means that you cannot isolate Betts in the forward line, which is a tactic that has worked previously against us; and I would be surprised if you guys don't as well.

Good luck (but not too much) on the weekend; hope you guys all got tickets! First game at AO is going to be absolutely amazing!

So the full game he played last week is irrelevant
