Haven't we seen enough of Martin (19 games), McKay (106 games), Porp (127 games) and Jaensch (46 games)? Have we seen enough of Lyons (13 games)?
I'd be terribly disappointed if Lyons was dropped before Martin and Porps. Mackay and Jaensch were serviceable to good last night I thought.

I am unconvinced that our CHF can also be our second ruckman. Sauce competed well last night but was unable to cover the ground well enough to compete with Simpson and McIntosh. I must also say I reckon Blicavs is a pretty handy sub. Logic says that we should have had an advantage when Lyons came on and they subbed on another ruckman. The reality was I reckon Blicavs provided more run than Lyons.
Missing a Lynch/Otten type to provide a lead up option to the wings if we want Smack to be key forward and Ruck. Or better yet.. Tex.
Or failing that... Jpod actually providing the CHF contest for us. Not quite hitting the mark yet for mine....

Can someone tell me who the player was who in the third quarter on the wing/halfback area for Adelaide broadcast side went up and flew for a massive spoil but didn't kill the ball and it fell out the back for an easy Geelong clearance and shot on goal?

Shaw did a similar thing in the last quarter right in the middle of the ground near half back and let it get behind him which led to a goal... Just wondering if it was him in the third quarter too (couldn't see who it was from my position on the ground)

That was Shaw as well. He's good in the air, has long arms and is an excellent spoiler. But there is that propensity to misjudge the flight and have an ugly air swing.

I don't know whether it was in this thread or another one, but I thought Shaw was largely very good last night. He made a number of excellent defensive efforts and spoils, and used the ball within his limitations. It's just that the mistakes he did make were very visible, ugly and costly.

It's easy to forget he's still quite inexperienced at this level - he will make some errors - but I'd like to see us persist at least until Otten comes back to give him a chance to iron out those kinks.

Jaenschhh is a shit truck delete him he is the worst defender to play AFL
He was actually very good. Wtf? Lots of rebound, lots of great passes out of defence. Had a few excellent 1 on 1 spoils.

And the howler on Selwood in the final quarter though. That was not good.

I don't know why people are surprised at this. He is almost an Olympics standard runner.
But but....... hes a ruckman......

Incredible athlete, compare that with Lyons who as good as he was, doesnt provide run and spread. We need a sub who injects run and dash. Looking forward to going down tomorrow to see if anyone can provide that in the 2s

The lack of cover for Danger was unbelievable as well.

We need Tex and Laird back, Vince would be handy too - a few players will some mongrel and balls.
This is what Thompson should be doing, massive build, has plenty of mongrel, if he can't get it as much as he used to be able to he could at least lay some big bumps for Danger. Would really love to see him start doing that.

Not sure what changes we make next week, depends on how our players do in the reserves.

Personally, I'd like Martin to play again, obviously he didn't have a great night but it's not the sort of position you play well in each week and he didn't exactly have many opportunities. Really, should have had a shot at goal from the mark he took from behind the pack. Was impressed with his ability to turn an easy mark in Geelongs defense/our forward into a contest when he came from behind with the spoil. His bigger body takes the hit better then I'd expect from a younger player. Give him another game or two, if he does the same in the next two then that should be the last of him but needs a few games before we can really judge him imo.

I missed the Lewis Johnston report - will he get games?

SJ pretty much dropped his head straight into it to win a free. I'm not sure if LJ even got his head in the end, might have been his upper back.

You didn't need a degree in lip reading to know that SJ thought the report was "bullshit".

I'm a little surprised at the hate for Jaensch. Thought he played an excellent game for the most part (Bartel did crucify us though). We had plenty worse than him.

He had plenty of ball, but that was the problem. When he handballed around it became diabolical. His good was really good, the bad was costly.

Lyons must look at Martin, Jaensch, McKay and Porp and think wtf.

Porplyzia shouldn't be there. I couldn't believe the commentators we're talking him up. How Mackay gets a gold pass is beyond me too. I thought Martin and Jaensch earned their spots in the preseason but they probably aren't good enough to stay there when we get those injured players back.

Mackay still playing is baffling. It isn't even doing his trade value any good.

Porps, well yeah, got to feel for the guy injury has crippled his career, but he should not be playing in the mids at the expense of well you know, mids.

We've created a rod for our own back with the Porplyzia selection. It's very harsh to drop a guy after Round 1.

But Matt Crouch needs to be in that team.

Who thinks we should play all three of Jenkins, McKernan and Jacobs?

Did some good things. Certainly better than I expected. I liked his kicking and the way he took the game on, not afraid to run and carry. I just don't like him in defense at all because he will always have those massive brain farts where he creates pressure out of nothing.

That run across half back instigating an unnecessary chain of handballs that put each player consecutively under more pressure was text book jaensch. I'd prefer to see him on a wing or HFF where his mistakes will be less costly and he can use is leg delivering inside 50 or giving it the occasional roost at goal

And is also why DE stats are pointless. All of his handballs went to teammates... Good DE. Did it help the team? Not a jot.

Quite possibly

I gave it a fleeting thought last night.

It would either be a match-winning move or an absolute stinker. You could just imagine McKernan and Jenkins stinking it up in tandem, and the result would be ten times worse than what happened last night.
