A grade is reserved for Ablett, Pendles, Watson etc..
Douglas is not in that company..
Nah I would say Douglas is A grade. Ablett, Pendles, Watson, Selwood etc are elite. A grade and elite are two different things in my books.

As I said earlier. I don't reckon Lyons is that well suited to being the sub. He was clearly the last player picked last week and hence first to go this week.agree
Lyons very unlucky however based on Sando's selection history you don't want the green vest especially if we lose because it means bye bye the following week

I guess thats why i never got elite at school?Nah I would say Douglas is A grade. Ablett, Pendles, Watson, Selwood etc are elite. A grade and elite are two different things in my books.

I think that's really just semantics. The bottom line is Dougy is not on the top tier of mids in the AFL. And that's not a criticism at all, he's developed into a fine AFL player and very important to our club.Nah I would say Douglas is A grade. Ablett, Pendles, Watson, Selwood etc are elite. Not afraid to put his balls on the line either.I think that's really just semantics. The bottom line is Dougy is not on the top tier of mids in the AFL. And that's not a criticism at all, he's developed into a fine AFL player and very important to our club.

He still played 2.5 trial games, and had a full pre-season. I highly doubt it'll affect him one iota.Douglas looked great until his incident, and has only been out a few weeks. He's excelled in years where he's had a full pre-season, and been down in years where he hasn't. That's a pretty common formline in sports, though Dougie probably varies more than most. Hopefully his incident hasn't disrupted his preparation too much. We need him to have another big year.
He has a fantastic fitness base these days.He still played 2.5 trial games, and had a full pre-season. I highly doubt it'll affect him one iota.

Ah, yeah, they do. Dangerfield, Sloane, Crouch and Douglas are a very strong midfield quartet, and match any other side in the comp if we are on (otherwise, why were they the top ranked midfield in 2012?). Thommo is past his best, but he's still capable of good games. Grigg and Kerridge have brilliant potential. Then there are guys like Lyons and M Crouch, even Brodie Smith eventually.Names mean nothing.
2014 Porplyzia isn't 2009 Porplyzia. 2014 Thompson isn't 2006-2012 Thompson.
Ask the Fremantle midfield how scared they were of the Collingwood big names.
Oh yeah, forgot Wright in my above post, who is a very handy 2nd tier mid. When I say our midfield one by one is good I meant players like Dangerfield, Sloane, Douglas, Crouch, Wright, Grigg etc. Although it's worth nothing Thompson was still our leading clearance and possession winner last year I believe. Even last year we had big names that played well individually, but as a group couldn't put it together.
Mookay lined up on Wingard on the team sheets. Reckon they think they'll need his speed to match up with him?
Porps looking like a prime sub candidate too. Hopefully it's not a repeat of last year where he puts on a decent sub performance once a month which keeps him in the side for ages.
The only question will be over his confidence. I have to admit I would be little trepidatious running into a pack.Good post. He had the entire preseason and basically ended up missing 2 weeks. Has been practicing for the past 5 days. Will be cherry ripe for the filth.
That's probably because all the other guys had been on the field for 3 quarters, and he had been sitting on his arse. Not excusing the rest of the mids performance in the last, but as a sub I would want Lyons to stand up and look fresher than the rest.To be fair though, Scott West was a better player than all but maybe 3 or 4 players in our current team.
I won't quote his stats like others have but will say this, when the pressure was on, really on in the last quarter, Lyons stood up and got the ball whilst half our team went missing. That is a player you want in your team, that is meant to be a benchmark of a successful side.
We drop him though, probably as an example of where we are as a footy club.
Its a strange injury, not sure if anyone saw it happen? I cant remember ever worry about my gonads on a footy field. Its not really a normal injury, most likely would occur in smothering i suppose. The only question will be over his confidence. I have to admit I would be little trepidatious running into a pack.

but how? boot, errant elbow? They showed a grainy replay. Looked like he got clobered in the nuts in a pack. GWS player was running about 1 metre off the ball. Completely unintentional and a freak accident.
As AFC979810 said, footage was terrible but I think it looked like an errant knee..but how? boot, errant elbow?
Jason Porplizia will be the sub.
Looks like he was very lucky to survive this week.
It was strange. It was basically an accidental hip and shoulder but right up the middle. Hip would have done the damage.but how? boot, errant elbow?
