Seasons done people. Time to give English another run and give Lipinksi a debut. Rest murph and put our key players on ice for Bob and Boydys fairwell game.

Ins
English, Lipinksi, JJ

Outs
Redpath, Libba, Murph

Sat near English on Friday. His eye is still red/bloody from his facial hit so doubtful he is available.

I find it hard to believe Bob Murphy has not watched a replay of the 2016 GF. Before Saturday's game, Bevo should sit the whole team down, and show the whole game, stopping to point out every moment of desperation that helped them win the game. Remembering their strengths is way they might be able to turn this around, there is still time to turn this around.
I've been thinking this for awhile. I've heard a few of them say they haven't watched it. I watched the 2nd half of the prelim again before we played Giants last week and it had me believing again.

I'm pretty sure English played the week after he was hit, then they had the bye.

Just looking at the injury lists it will be an absolute huge effort by the boys if we can get up this weekend.

Maybe, but we are still a better team. Our available squad is still stronger, just not in great form.

Would you be saying that if we had converted on our second quarter dominance last week?

A few boys might be underdone but if Morris and JJ get up, we're really only missing Adams, T Boyd and Wood and maybe Jongy from the best 22. They are all vital players though.

Even if we converted in our second quarter dominance against GWS we were still lacking experience down back to sure up the defence which is needed against good sides and has been lacking all year.

To be fair once you remove the guys with test next to their name (all expcected to play at some level this weekend) it doesn't look that bad:

Marcus Adams Foot 2-3 weeks
Stewart Crameri Hip Season
Lin Jong Knee Season
Brad Lynch Hamstring 2-3 weeks
Roarke Smith Knee Season
Easton Wood Hamstring 4-5 weeks

True. I find it amusing when we are pleased that only 2 or 3 best 22 are missing, ( and with last 2 seasons run, I understand), yet Geelong lose Selwood and Duncan (susp) and when they beat Tiggers on their ridiculously favourable home deck, they are world beaters and soooo brave.

I noticed that too it's just that port have had a dream run with injuries
and so they have had continuity with their best 22 team.

We've been unlucky with players coming back from injury and finding form over a few weeks then only for someone else to go down.
No stability or continuity especially in our backline.

Anyway fingers crossed that JJ Morris Honeychurch and M. Boyd can hit form first up.

There's a tiny little selfish part of me that wants us to drop this game. Seems like we'll embarrass ourselves in the finals if we did make them.

If we lose this weekend, we know next week is our last game. We can give Boyd and Murph the send off game and we get an extra week in our pre-season, not to mention better draft picks.

No. Just no.

Pffft. No true supporter would wish missing finals. Nobody gave us a chance last year and that turned out ok. I also don't get the not playing finals to avoid a beating mantra. You don't think Dale, Williams & Young would benefit from the experience ? You don't think Murph & Wally would love a crack at it after missing last year ? You don't think watching oppo teams shi77ing themselves worried we may pull another rabbit from our hat ? Imagine the melts if we won the first final.

I get that, and you're totally right, no-one including myself saw last year coming, although at this stage last year we'd only copped one hiding compared to the 4? we've taken this year and a few players were playing better than the year before, only McLean and Dale are doing that this year.

But you also need to weigh up is 3-4 players getting finals experience better than whatever points value we decrease our draft picks by.

When the day arrives where I stop supporting my club to get "draft points" I'll give up watching footy.

Until the AFL realises intent doesn't matter, then yeah, you have to make it look like it's all part of a natural motion. It's an easy out.

Once they get rid of the intent part they don't have to worry about whether or not it's "accidental". How about if you put your studs up and collect someone in the face, you get punished regardless of if you meant it or not? How about if you slam someone in a tackle and concuss them, you get punished regardless of whether or not you're "just a big bloke who throws himself around"?

Players disguise dirty plays as actual plays. This has been the case in every sport ever, forever. Intent can be impossible to determine. How can you get inside a guy's head to determine what he truly meant? You can't. Just punish guys for doing dangerous shit. It shouldn't be this complicated. Want to eliminate dangerous tackles or bumps? Suspend people for doing them no matter what their intent was.

For that matter, it shouldn't take a guy getting KO'd for the charges to go up. If the head really was sacrosanct, then shouldn't people go for acts that even reaonably could concuss people, even if they don't? Wouldn't eliminating the potential for it to happen be the only way of eliminating it from happening? It's a rough game and shit can happen, and sometimes concussions are going to happen. But sometimes they don't have to.

They say they're going to take all these hardline stances, make one or two "statements" but go back to being inconsistent the rest of the time.

I don't mind them taking a harder stance on jumper punches. But contact to the head is contact to the head. Going studs up or slamming their head into the turf in a tackle should be at least as much of a suspension as a jumper punch. But the AFL's care about brain injuries goes about as far as token statements and one or two token suspensions. But we'll see how reactionary they get when some major newspaper releases a story about footy and brain injuries. That's what it'll take.
Intent does matter. If Dangerfield and Grundy got the same punishment as bugg and houli, the mrp would be an even bigger joke.

They got it horribly wrong this weekend, but that wasn't a problem with the system- it was a problem with the people interpreting the system. Redpath had insufficient impact, so it should've been thrown out. Wines was clearly medium impact, but classified as low to get him off. The Greene decision was just plain and simple cheating. They have a set of rules, but chose not to apply them because they didn't want him to be suspended. Don't blame the rules for that, blame the corrupt people in charge of applying them.
