I’m going to say he’d offer more forward than JK at present.

Happy to be proven wrong.

I agree with you on that, realistically we are not dropping JK after a couple of bad games when he has travelled across the country away from fam and kids just to have his career killed off halfway through the GC hub by match committee.

I don't mind it. It was obvious that we had team balance issues.

Petruccelle wasn't performing and it is interesting that Cole seems to be ahead of Nelson again? Cole was fantastic in 2018 but terrible in 2019.

Oscar is not a ruckman, even as a backup or pinch hitter

Either he’s sore which we’re not privy to, or this is a very telling decision about what position they consider players to be.

Assuming Allen is healthy, his absence and Waterman in the emergencies means that Allen is a ruckman to them now. Waterman is the forward on standby. Brander is a full time “mid” which we already knew.

Really hope we don’t waste Oscar Allen’s developmental years making him pinch hit in the ruck and not getting a great crack at a KPF role.

No one thinks Oscar is a ruck.

Dare I say he is sore and needs a week off.

He took an absolute beating in the ruck the last two weeks.

Then when he comes back next week we can all continue debating our forward/ruck setups ad nauseam.

Praying they don’t view him as a ruck who can spend time forward, rather than the inverse when the matchup is appropriate.

A pox on the match committee then!

Hickey is such an uninspiring selection. Williams should have overtaken him already as the second ruck. If Naitanui isn’t fit enough to have Williams come in and develop behind him then he shouldn’t be playing.

McGovern for Schofield is obvious, but I thought we looked better with Schofield in.

Rotham and Petch are easy drops, not necessarily without reason, but easy. I wonder if the free passes being enjoyed by Redden, Cripps and a few other senior players will expire soon.

Cole would want to be a lot better than last year. Seems a sideways selection at best.

Emergencies don’t necessarily mean all that much.

Rotham came from nowhere to replace Nelson.

Williams was named ahead of Hickey in rounds 2 and 3 but which of them finds himself in the team this week?

I really just feel that went for an older more experienced 2nd ruck out of respect for what Slyce brings to the table.

I'd expect one of Allen/Williams bak in next week.

I agree with that side of it, no issue with two proper rucks (though I’d hoped Williams over Hickey but acknowledge he’s not experienced). Just don’t understand how there’s no room for Allen in our forwardline when you have Petch and Ah Chee giving us less than nothing both weeks since the restart.

Petch for JJ was a great swap - get a natural forward into the forwardline. I’d argue Allen for Ah Chee does the same. Oh well, we’ll see next week how they handle it, hope we win by 100 and go in unchanged against the Tigers.

I don't expect Hickey to play more than 35% TOG, when he isn't in the ruck, he'll be on the bench, and the club will up the number of rotations to cover for it, if needed.

Ah Chee is under notice and needs to turn in a good performance to keep his spot, but Oscar/JK/JD seem to get in each other's way sometimes. You've said that before about Allen and Ah Chee, I don't see the like for like there.

Side note: Richmond have omitted Soldo for Nankervis. Looks like they are persevering with their solo ruck philosophy.

It's Simmo we're talking about. His free passes for senior players are like canned beans - non-perishable.

I mean, Masten was dropped six times in his final three seasons and there’s a 191-game player dropped to the emergencies this week, but ok.

Also - zero changes to a midfield that has had its pants pulled down two weeks straight? Must be an easy life in there.

Which of Ainsworth, XON or Brayshaw do you think should have come in this week?

Therein lies the problem, eh?

I would like X to come in if/when fit, mind. And I’ve said in another thread that Kelly should play on the wing/flank to get Redden (if he has to play) on ball.

I’ve said the same. Don’t think you can read much into where they’re named on Thursday though. Let’s see where they actually line up.

I think that’s the right approach. We have to change the structure, but I can’t genuinely see an argument for changing the personnel. We know it isn’t working, but there’s no “better” players to bring in, it’s a matter of making what are clearly our most talented midfielders improve as a unit.

As you’ve said, that absolutely starts with Redden getting more time in and under with Shuey/Kelly/everyone else spending more time outside.

Allen's exclusion doesn't mean too much, would be too tall with him in this week, just balancing the team with more small forwards. Waterman being the emergency over him is just giving Waterman some confidence/hunger, neither are going to play. Hopefully Jones can bring some pressure and keep the ball in the forward line if it's going to be slippery conditions.
Cripps, Ah Chee, Yeo, Kennedy, Redden/ half the team need to pull a finger out this weekend.
