I put this in the coaching thread and reposting here for more relevance.

If I was coach I'd do the following changes this week:
Tmac down back. He's doing nothing up forward and we need another decent defender down back until May and Lever come back. If he does poorly after 3 weeks, he can join his brother and they can bring in Keilty.
Ask Lewis to consider retiring immediately and give him some sort of coaching gig for the rest of the year. Drop him this week and hope he gets the message.
Bring Gartlett back and give him three weeks. If he does nothing, thanks for your service mate.
Drop both Wagners. Bring in Stretch and Lockhart. Play Lockhart forward and put stretch and hunt on the wings.
Be ruthless. Viney on notice, Petracca on notice, Hibbered on notice, Spargo on notice.

I'm no good at tactics but agree with a lot of other posters here, fix the defensive structure, spread more in the middle, stop over handling the ball, lower the eyes into forward 50, and apply more pressure everywhere especially up forward.

TLDR In - Gartlett, Lockhart, Stretch
Out - Lewis, Wagner x 2
Play smarter, better, tougher

Sadly I can never post in this thread. I have been in meetings or at functions during most of our games this year and can’t bring myself to watch the replay. So I can’t even suggest changes. :'(

From what I’ve heard it sounds like Lewis moved at glacial speeds, but was he ok in any other way?

I envy you ... and no, I can't remember anything off the top of my head that made me glad he was out there, although to be fair, my drinking intensified far more than the team's attack on the footy around the 3rd qrt.

Going for pace in this one. Walked away yesterday with no intention of going, but even in a short working week I know I'll be roped back in.

Out: J.Wagner, C.Wagner, Spargo, (Viney)

In: Stretch, Lockhart, Garlett, (Kolodjashnij)

Lewis gets a pardon given it was his first game back (whether we like it or not), though concerns over his pace won't get better the more he plays, and Hibberd only remains in because I want him on the wing and at high half forward. If he's going to keep running and dumping the ball on his boot, I want him getting deep into the F50. Move Lewis back into defence and see if he can affect the contest as third man. Throw Stretch on the other wing - his time is now. Needs a few games to get some rhythm, with express instructions to stay outside the contest like he did in his first few years.

J.Wagner was okay, but C.Wagner was bloody useless on the weekend, and pretty poor vs Sydney too. TMac can swing back and find some footy, his season is effectively a write off unless he gets a feel for it again. Then again, he kicked 50 last year without playing until round six, so he's got a two goal head start o_O. Free up Weideman in the F50 to start actually roaming again, and stick big Preussy at full forward with Garlett and Lockhart glued to his feet.

Not too fussed for team balance if Viney's foot is injured as per his scans today (obviously shattered for him), just shocked it took them so long to figure it out (or am I, this is Misso after all). We're too heavy inside for 6-6-6, so bring KK in for Jack to play outside, get Jones playing more inside and have those two rotating forward with Oliver and Petracca to try find some mismatches on the counter. The footy I'd like to see us play is contingent on hard running, so I doubt we pull it off, but it's the best way to play at the G.

FB: Jetta, T.McDonald, Lewis
HB: Salem, Frost, Hore
C: Stretch, Harmes, Hibberd
HF: Melksham, Weideman, Petracca
FF: Lockhart, Preuss, Garlett
R: Gawn, Brayshaw, Oliver
IC: Jones, (Viney), Harmes, Fritsch

Yeah, i think it's time to drop TMac back until May or Lever return.

And you're right, bring back Jeffy and even Stretch and give them a full month to show something. They're not going to make a huge difference but give them both the opportunity to show something anything over a decent stretch. At least they're not slow. I'd drop Spargo, Lewis and both Wagners. Bring in Jeffy, Stretch, ANB and Lockhart. All can run at least.

Hibberd, Harmes and TMac all on notice. Lose to the Tiges and it all wont matter anyway. Probably doesn't already really..

Out - C Wagner, Lewis, J Wagner
In - Stretch, Baker, Lockhart

B - Hibberd Frost Jetta
HB - Salem TMac Fritsch
C - Stretch Oliver Hunt
HF - Melksham Weidemann Harmes
F - Spargo Petracca Jones
R - Gawn Viney Brayshaw
I/C Hore, Preuss, Baker, Lockhart

Stretch needs a month. He isn’t THAT BAD! We just need a look at Baker, what the **** have we got to lose? We aren’t getting much from Wagner X2 or Lewis. Seriously. Lockhart to provide some forward support.

Mate, who the **** knows...

Lockhart and Garlett in. Thought Lockhart has been ok until his injury. Also give Stretch a run of a couple of games. Out: 2 x Wagner’s and Spargo. Agree, T’Mac back to defence.

I can’t see them dropping Lewis. He’ll get at least one more game. They’ll give him benefit of the doubt.
For me I’d bring Garlett and Lockhart in. I’d also want another key back. Either Tmac moved or bring one in. Omac or Petty/Keilty. Stretch deserves a few games in a row to IMO.
In - Garlett Lockhart Petty
Out - Wagner x 2 Spargo

I’m tipping Omac probably gets a call up as we don’t want too much inexperience. Anyway we need another key back in to all Hore to play as an interceptor and not have to mind Riewoldt. If we decide to throw Tmac back then bring stretch in.
If Preuss misses bring in Tim Smith.

Agree about Stretch. Needs a month to see what he has got.

Agree with Lockhart. Was good before his injury. Had pace and can mark it. Even try him down back for some speed. I think he’s played there a bit in vfl.

Our midfield is pretty terrible

I'd like to see Oliver go forward more or start on a wing. Try and break his game up. His hurt factor from his disposal is about a 1-10 at the moment. He has 2 modes of using it atm. 2m handball or bomb it long.

Jack Viney isn't that good at footy, he's just kinda crazy. His use of the ball is as bad as anyone in the side and when he isnt clearing the ball like an animal I'm not sure what he's doing.

Brayshaw has probably been the best of these 3 but my god is he bad by foot. Reckon he went 50/50 left right on the weekend when he should learn how to kick on his right first.

Quietly Harmes has easily been our best midfielder this year. He's got the perfect balance going yet people still don't rate him because he gets 25 not 35

I think you are spot on. As much as I think Lewis is done Goodwin is loyal and will give him at least another game. I love Viney as a clubman, and injuries suck to anyone, but he's not a great player and if it brings another outside (albeit unproven) mid in then I'm ok with it. I stupidly think we have have a chance with this setup

This is going to be such an interesting game. Richmond are MCG specialists, and we look like we've never played there before. If Goodwin flips the magnets and gets us cutting teams up through the middle with quick movement, we'll be a good chance of winning. If he keeps the same horrible game plan, you can lock in a 10-goal plus loss. I'm usually up for criticising the players, but I don't think any of them are in particularly bad form. Even Frost was good on the weekend. We just have no synergy, and the game plan is ruining us thanks to all the goals other teams are being allowed to stack on. As soon as we wrestle momentum, we look ok and can score heavily. We just have literally zero clue how to defend man-on-man and stop other teams running over the top. Roosy wept on Easter Saturday.

Of course Lewis will play again. He will get a month atleast of doing nothing.
I remember Garry saying when we got him he couldn't care if he didn't get a single touch. I got his point then, about leadership and structure, but i think i'd revisit this comment and say nah Garry

I suppose back then our only leaders were Jones and Bern, given we'd just traded Dunn and delisted Cross. These days, Viney and Gawn should have theoretically become better on-field leaders and we shouldn't need a cooked Lewis to tell our players where to run.
