Changes vs Richmond

Backline was exceptional except for ball getting over the back (and through the middle). Only 17 scoring shots for the Eagles, how many of those were due to bad zoning of space? I think otherwise they were excellent.

I think we all agree that Goodes lacks foot pace and the MCG will only exacerbate that further. I would bring him out for someone with more speed. If Hrovat is fit, probably him, but I suspect he might need 2 weeks at VFL before he comes into contention.

Probably the same ones who were happy with that shit they served up in Rnd 1
I don't think anyone was actually happy with our performance on Thursday - we started off extremely poor and ended up running over a lesser side, very scrappy but got better as the game went on. The good thing is that we have a lot of room for improvement, our midfield was led by Hunt and McIntosh with virtually non-existent games from Deledio/Martin/Cotchin.

I think we should win this game and we should win it well (but you never know with Richmond). That's not me being arrogant, but the reality is we're in different stages - we're challenging for a spot between 5th-8th and you guys are trying to set up for the future with a good core of youngsters.

My biggest fear going into this game is your free-wheeling midfielders - Bontempelli, Macrare, Jong, Dahlhaus. We don't have a lot of outside pace and these types of the players are the ones that traditionally kill us. If you have a look back to Thursday Chris Yarran was the one who looked the most likely and caused us the most headaches.

Minson vs Maric will be a good matchup as they are extremely similar in the way they play.

Also, don't reckon the MCG helps you guys.

Goodes might be a good candidate for the Sub this week.

I wouldn't replace Redpath for two reasons. Structurally speaking he's important because it shuffles around tall defenders and he was still getting to and impacting contests even if things weren't quite going his way. More than you can say about Jones.

Agreed. Redpath needs to hold 3 or 4 marks anywhere within 50m of goal and he should kick 2 or 3 goals. His job is to lead a fast tall defender up the ground. Boyd is the long target - he hits packs and makes everyone fall over. Of course he also needs a tall defender. Stringer is left to crumb, lead or wrestle as the situation demands.

Its a good setup in terms of the roles those players have.

The bookies don't agree that you should win it well - the line is about three goals, which I think is about right.

PERSIST WITH REDPATH! He had a poor game on saturday no question, but the amount of times both him and Boyd got to the right spots and just didn't hold on was very very high. Had an off night but he will clunk those soon. Actually Adam Simpson deserves credit how he coached against this issue on the weekend by instead having medium defenders Hurn, Yeo, Butler covering the talls and had McGovern play on the smalls and rely upon McGovern taking risks and flying for marks to intercept the long ball. Worked wonders for them and if McGovern had an off night we would have won by 60 points such was his prominence.

There I said it, get some run and carry in the side who can kick goals.

Think we are a chance to get Richmond for pace.

I would be starting J Grant on a wing and bring in Hrovat for Goodes. Honey to play the sub, assuming no injuries bring him on half way through the third and he could provide some good dash through the middle.

Goodes might be a good candidate for the Sub this week.

Goodes looks a bit slow as said on the 'G' that could be a problem even if coming on as sub. If anyone is dropped I hope its him, we don't need to look after him with continuity etc so he is the most expendable if others are ready.

Interested in Honey's performance seemed like he applied crazy pressure for about half a game and then seemed to fade. Seems like the perfect sub.

Edit....beaten

Winning it well to me is 25+ given the current landscape, which I don't think is unreasonable. Again though, it's going to be no walkover but any means.

I'd rather have a player lacking in leg speed as the Sub rather than asking them to play the whole game. I agree though that if a change is made it should be Goodes out. Honeychurch also a possibility to be dropped.

I'd give the sub to Honey.

Out: Goodes
In: Hrovat

Provided Hrovat is sufficiently match fit I could certainly live with these changes.

What is wrong with earning your spot in the side? I think a lot of teams are often guilty of changing for the sake of changing.

We are in round 2 and coming off a good win. Give the guys who had a 'down' day, the chance to fight harder and make ammends this week. Likewise the guys in the VFL should string in a number of consistent performances to earn their chance.

Different story if the coaches want to go down a different tactical route and bring in an extra player to suit that, but I don't see the point in going 'like for like' this week.

Basically, it it isn't that many Richmond supporters believe we will win well against the Bulldogs (since it is Richmond, and we know very well what can happen with Richmond). It is that we expect to win big, and that is because we put a certain standard on our team given where we at in our development. So it is more of an expectation rather than belief. We would like to think we are on the verge of something with our list, so we would like to expect our team can beat a side like Bulldogs comfortably.

Yes, Bulldogs seem to be going somewhere with their list and we realise that (many were impressed with their game against West Coast), but we expect our team to be able to take the next step too and win a game like this comfortably (I expect a 20-30 point win, and not a 10-goal win like some other supporters).

Of course, many other opposition supporters do not rate us as contenders, but we rate our team higher than what others do just like what most other supporters normally do with their own team.

If we do not win by as much as we expected, then we simply overrated our team and/or underrated the opposition. Besides, what fun is barracking in footy if we do not expect big wins from time to time?

You're literally the only team that acts that way, and also after last year, that's why we respond the way that we do.
FWIW a 20-30 point win is still above the bookie's line set for the match of about 3 goals.

Yeah I know the way some behave about this match and I really don't agree with (nor like) the arrogance that some Richmond supporters are having towards the Doggies. It is the same way how some Port supporters expect a 60-100 point win against Richmond this year because of the Elimination Final. While that may definitely occur, it doesn't feel good to be on the receiving end of such confidence, so people need to be aware not to dish it out either.

I know 20-30 points is higher than what the bookie's line set is for the match, but the supporters of a club tend to overestimate the margin that their team is able to win by. That is why I as a Richmond supporter expect a margin like this. It looks like it may rain on Saturday, so I actually wouldn't be surprised if the win is less than 10 points if Richmond win

For me Redpath out for Cordy makes a lot of sense(I would have done it round 1 as I wrote in that thread)

Means Toyd doesn't have to ruck and can spend more time forward as well as Cordy being a better ruckman anyway. Also means Minson doesn't have to do as much rucking despite still doing the bulk of it and won't burn out as quickly or as the season goes on like he did last year. It also rewards Cordy for a great pre-season. He's also a pretty handy fwd at times not to far behind Redpath in that category and least demands one of the opposition very tall fwds who normally be lining up on Toyd.

Geez it was good to see 2 tall forwards play for once unlike Macca hanging Jones out to dry every week and then bringing Redpath in and dropping Jones late last year.

I'd also keep Goodes for at least another week. Don't underestimate how god dam young our team is. With youth comes erratic performance from round to round and even quarter to quarter. A bit of a mature head and a bigger body is something our team lacks more than any other.
