Changes vs Richmond

I would have been happy to give Redpath another chance but I think the forward line functioned better when he was subbed out last week. There could be a fair bit of shuffling of forwards this season - talls and smalls.

Also note no Astbury in for the Tigers. For those reading the changes thread during the week, you will be please to know we are at least a chance now to score a few goals.

I have a feeling that Hamling will be in for JJ out. I did not see JJ out at training today which is a real worry. At the end of the session all the defendres you would expect to play where spending time with Smithy, Hamling was there but JJ was not! Hopefully he is OK and I just didn't spot him, but I am a little worried.

Notice they spent a fair bit of time practising attacking and defending from kick-outs today. The zone is well and truly in full swing. Who is the designated kicker for the Tigers, hopefully he doesn't have the monster boot on him like Hurn and they can't get over the back as easily. Also practised the their tackling. Redders definitely looks to be lining up based on some of the one on one work he was doing with Hanson.

Smith was back out looking in fine fettle. Tell you what the kid has some mits on him. Was having a k2k with Moyd after the session and he was leading out pretty hard, about ten drilled passes from Moyd and Clay with fully stretched arms did not fumble one.

Interesting, I had Hamling as a smoky to take Reiwoldt but didn't see how he fitted in, and then again wouldn't Webb be more like for like for JJ if he doesn't play?

Agreed. Webb will get a crack in the next few weeks I think. Perhaps against Hawthorn.
I think we can afford to bring one in every few weeks , like this week goodes out for Webb McLean or hrovat

I like the change, although I think Redpath is a bit stiff. Ayce had been performing well, and out of the two I'd like to see come good this year I'd prefer it to be Ayce as he's better for our structure because he's good in the ruck. I would actually be super happy if he kept Redpath out for the rest of the year by performing well.

Hmm wanted Jack to get more of a go and if we were to play 2 ruckman why wasn't it last week.
We should have last week. Will looked rooted last week. And every time I saw Boyd jumping up in the ruck I was sh*ting myself hoping he wouldn't be injured - 'twas like running Black Caviar at Cranbourne

Need some of this from Big Ayce. He played really well this game. Shows he can really motor when he wants to. Get those hands up and jump Ayce no one will be able to reach you!

Haha never use boyd and caviar in the same sentence again , she is a megastar

Exactly last week was the week to play 2 rucks, was hoping Redpath would be given a good long run at senior level. Don't like it much to be honest. Tommy Boyd needs a big game I expect Redpath to dominate once again in the 2's.

Not sure we would have won last week if we played 2 KPF and a 2 Rucks.

The reason we won was because of forward pressure and we over ran them in the last quarter, both those things would have been compromised if we were down a mid.

I have said a couple of times and I still think that T.Boyd isn't a lock for this forward line, in fact sometimes it looked better when Stringer was the solitary tall forward who played deep. Cordy, Redpath and Stringer is maybe something we should trial this year.

He is at the moment.

I think Toyd's game last week was underrated. His crashing the packs and forcing a contest lead to 3 or 4 goals to his team mates, he kicked a clutch goal of his own and gave Will a chop out in the Ruck.

He definitely deserves his spot at present.

I would have thought Redpath's preseason form warranted him a game. His regular season game didn't. Its almost that simple.

Despite his greater height Boyd is far better below his knees than Redpath and offered a lot more than Redpath last game.

I think Jack deserved more than a one game senior stint, yes he had an absolute stinker and should have marked far more and kicked at least 3 - 4 with the opportunities we had. But we needed to give our first choice forward line some time to gel and get some confidence so I am slightly disappointed with the change, although we saw that we need a second ruck to help will so i can accept Cordy getting a run. Let's just hope Ayce provides another alternative to goal and plays that 2nd ruck role. We might just let Will ruck almost the majority of the game then sub him off and let Ayce and Tom ruck the last quarter.

Honey for sub.

Surprised about Redders, thought the work he was doing with Hansen today after the main session was a go factor in him getting another run (maybe the opposite was true). More than happy that JJ has been named thought that he was amazing last week, as I said earlier I didn't notice him at training so he could still be a risk. Would say out of the emergencies if he ends up being rested that it would be Webb that would take his spot. Seems the most likely replacement.

Good luck to Cordy, he is surprisingly agile for his size and he is alright overhead, will provide an interesting dynamic, two 200+cm at CHF and FF, 192 & 190cm with Stringer and Crameri.......exciting.

Hope Redders takes the omission the right way. He has had it all his own way this pre-season, and now that he has come across a slight hitch, he needs to come out blazing at Punt Rd Saturday morning and prove to the coaching staff he is in it for the long haul.

Really excited about the weekend, GO DOGS!
