I think Jack deserved more than a one game senior stint, yes he had an absolute stinker and should have marked far more and kicked at least 3 - 4 with the opportunities we had. But we needed to give our first choice forward line some time to gel and get some confidence so I am slightly disappointed with the change, although we saw that we need a second ruck to help will so i can accept Cordy getting a run. Let's just hope Ayce provides another alternative to goal and plays that 2nd ruck role. We might just let Will ruck almost the majority of the game then sub him off and let Ayce and Tom ruck the last quarter.

I agree Redpath is a little stiff, but circumstances conspired against him:

- a shit game
- McGovern killing us, fear of what Rance would do
- a need to give Will a better chop out on the bigger ground

In this instance, team needs have overtaken Redpath's needs. I think we've had enough of development coaching at the expense of doing everything possible to win.

From anywhere, although it would be at least 80% of the time they are from the bench.

Edit: unlikely though as his forward craft is very average.

I dunno about that. He's as elegant as an elephant on roller skates but surprisingly effective with accurate set shots and clever snaps.

Anywhere. Team sheet has literally no bearing on who is sub, it's not even a better chance if they are on the bench really.

I feel like I remember an article on the AFL site suggesting that it's more common that the sub is named on the field than on the bench...can't find it though. I might be imagining things.

Could be, I don't notice where a lot come from unless they are in my SC, and have generally noticed the subs were from the bench. But that's a pretty limited sample size so fair chance I'm wrong.

He was being scragged and held all night while McGovern sat on his head. I expected him to drop his head, but instead he worked his backside off to bring teammates into the game, was good in the air and at ground level, and gave as good as he got off the ball.

The cake was all there, and he iced it with the mark and goal in the last quarter. He's going to be insanely good.

Personally I would have kept the same team. Last week was an almost game for Redpath, moved to the right spots and provided an option at the right times. It was also noticeable on at least three occasions where Boyd was looking for Redpath and vice versa. Continuity would only see this relationship strengthen.
Unfortunately he dropped a mark very early on from a perfect Murphy pass and his hands didn't get any better from then on. He takes that mark, gets confidence early and goes on to have a good game and he would be still in this week.
Beveridge has shown his hand early IMO with this selection. If development was the number one priority then no doubt Redpath would be given several games to build form. The Cordy selection shows that Beveridge is playing to win. Though I would have kept Redpath in, Beveridge has done nothing yet for me to question his decision making so I will back the team in.
Cordy in will have a couple of consequences which I like. Firstly it means Boyd will spend all his time Forward. It also means that Stringer is less likely to get Rance as his defender. The height of of Cordy and Boyd will dictate that Richmonds tallest defenders, Chaplin and Rance, will go to those two leaving a Grimes, Batchelor and Vlastuin for Stringer, Crameri and Dickson. One of these three will get off the leash in a big way.

I thought he was good but not sensational , will be very good in the future , it's interesting because Tom lamb had almost identical stats as boyd I was suprised

Fair enough. I'm saying he was sensational by the standard I've been holding him to - obviously if a solitary goal is sensational on the face of it we're going to have to invent a few new words when he's at his peak, haha.

See the problem you're having is looking at the stats.

What Boyd did won't show up in the stats, and is something you'd only notice if you watched him.

The fact that he kept presenting. Kept running. And the fact that he drew defenders towards him.

It cannot be emphasised enough how much of a massive win it would be for the club if Cordy could come on this year and become a damaging tall forward that averages 1.5+ goals a game and rucks say 30% of the time.

Hate to say it but he didn't play any better of a game that any 201cm reasonably athletic player should play. The reason we're paying him that figure and the reason that he was the number 1 pick was that he could take marks over two players, and use his strength in contests and give out direct goal assists, not just be a tall bloke who can be good at the air and at ground level and get teammates into the game. A solid game nonetheless especially for a 19 year old, but at the end of the day a key forward taking 2 marks and 0 goal assists irrespective of the amount of blokes hanging off him is not "sensational" by any means.
