Out: Sylvia, Bennell

We've given Bennell a taste of the top level, now give him a week or two at Casey and let Petterd have a go down back and if he can't get any sort of form down there then Bennell can come in for him after a week or two.

Sylvia, get some form at Casey and perhaps find a brain down there too let alone a football brain.

Also giving PJ ONE last chance to impact the game in any form in a positive way, whether it be by playing good footy or knocking someone out. Just for the love of God do something good this weekend.

And also this team was picked on the basis that Junior wasn't fit to play, if he is I'd take out Dunn, stick Green in the forward line, Junior to the interchange and Bartram to the wing.

I'm hoping Maric does play although Jetta has been named in the back pocket which means either cheney or pettard wont play

Id hate to see petterd get dropped

No-one ever questions Bartrams position in the team.
I really dont rate him that much as a footballer.
Hopefully he is dropped and cheney and petterd both play.

Petterd to be chopped it seems.

Bench: PJ, Bartram, Maric and Jones

E: Spencer, Petterd, Cheney

Bartram and Cheney could be swapped, I'm indifferent to both.

I would think Petterd is ahead of Bartram at this stage. Especially against the tigers we don't need too many defensive accountable players. Lets go head to head and see how we go...

Petterd can play forward, or head down back and fill the role Cheney will vacate... Bartram doesn't have the flexability or the skills that Petterd does, so I think Ricky P may get the nod...

Petterd is probably a better player than Bartram, but it might be horses for courses this week, with the inclusion of Newton can we afford to leave out Bartram?

Interesting to see Juice return nonetheless, it might point towards PJ being left out because PJ has been playing that tall role down forward that Newton will now play.

we could go with only one ruckman... We've seen a lot of other teams do it this year, and the Meese is meant to have a great tank, so he'd be most capable of all our ruckman to play one out...

Stef Martin to releave him when he needs a rest...

that gets me thinking... with Juice coming in I'd like to see a completely revamped Forward line this week... something like...

Maric Miller Bate
Martin Newton Jetta

throw Martin forward, and at least attempt to try and outstretch the opposition backline... that is definately their weakest... this forward line will have more than one option going forward... and our backline will still be strong enough, and hopefully generate a little more run...

Frawley Warnock Bennell
Petterd Rivers Davey

Yeah but Goddard is about 190cm and has played in the backline for a chunk of his career. He has the versatility to play anywhere. Moloney is a stocky midfielder, who has always and will always play midfield. He doesnt have the height and marking ability of Goddard, and we'd miss his clearance work in the centre, which he has improved alot this year IMO. I'd rank him as our number 1 inside midfielder ahead of Brock and Jones at the moment. Not bagging Beamer though, as he's one of my fav players, just not a good comparison the Goddard one lol

I really want to see Maric play this week. He is going to be a great player for us I reckon. He was drafted as a small forward, but I reckon he's going to wind up playing both midfield and forward. His kicking skills are fantastic.
Also dont want to see Petterd dropped. We are rebuilding right now, the idea is to get games into kids who are our future. Ricky has had a few injury problems, but he's shown he has immense courage and talent, and he will be part of our future. We need to get games into him, and get him involved with the club so we dont lose him for nothing to Gold Coast when the time comes.

I think BC's post (#35) above is spot on but I don't think Spencer had a great game for Casey last week which might just give PJ one last chance. Just tell PJ to man up and also attempt to hit the ball forward.

Maric, Jones and a ruckman need to play. Jetta is lucky but if we don't play some of the young blokes in a couple of years we will end up like Richmond.

So I don't really mind which of the other 3 play, however they need a defender so Bartram is probably the favourite but I have a slight leaning to keeping Petterd in the team and playing him as a backmen.

Agreed, he is sort of nothing at the moment not playing bad or good, i would go with Petterd as he offers some versatility can play forward or back.

Moloney at CHF is to fit him into the team, the way sides are picked these days it should be a squad of 25 read out in no particular order. The way they line up to the way they start on game day is miles apart.

Its interesting you say that Super. Last night Alan Martello adressed the playing group at the metropolitan club I coach and spoke about the changes in modern football. Up until 3 years ago he was director of coaching at Box Hill and still works with many of the Hawthorn big men. He spoke about Simon Taylor after the Geelong game. He had called him regarding the Selwood incident but also regarding a goal Blake had kicked. He said he was really scathing about Taylor letting Blake kick a goal uncontested 30m out. Taylors response was really interesting and reflects where the modern game has gone. His response was "not my responsibility, I was in my zone another player was zoning that area". Alan's response was but its your man whcih he was told the coaching staff were unhappy with the other player not me.

He spoke about the fact that in 3 years since he left the game it was almost unrecognisable. He used Adam Simpson as an example and that he often talks about the fact that he used to run around all over the ground and try and win the footy. Now he plays an area of the ground. He said that bar taggers most players have absolutely no idea who they are playing on during the game. Coaching was focused on run and carry, movement and playing specific roles and game styles to suit grounds conditions and opposition. It was a really interesting insight into how the game is played today.

It also highlights how much foot skills and decision making play in the modern game. This year I would be interested to see the amount of goals scored directly off our turnovers as all year we have been highly competitive for long periods before conceding easy goals through shocking mistakes. However we have drafted specifically for the modern game in the past two years. Every player this year was listed as having elite kicking skills. Great to see Maric in for that reason. Give it time as I think we are building a side that will thrive in the current environment. Will be a fair bit of pain for a couple of years but when we get 20, 30, 40 + games into a lot of these boys we will see a marked improvement in results and consitency of performance

I'm torn in my head about this game. Sure, this may well be a good chance for a win, but it's also a good chance for Richmond to treat us like a revenge fcuk.

It's going to go one way or the other isn't it? :o

Either we'll come to play and we win, or we get absolutely trounced.
