Sheeds problems are between the ears as is Masten. Really want to see Brander blooded in an easy game to give him a taste of whats required at the top level. Then back to WAFL for a few years to earn his stripes, Masten and Sheed are like the old days of Rosa and Ebert...you can only have one of them in the side at any time. They are soft and this team is all about Hardness!!!!! at the ball. Not to be a smug Fu!@ but I said 5-6 years ago this side would be flying once Rosa, Ebert, Scooter, Stevens and Masten were replaced...only one to go BABY!!!
The guys you mentioned apart from Masten were hard at the ball though?

Don’t mind the changes.

Sheed gets the message as does the rest of the playing group- no room for passengers this year.

Will back in Nelson on Billings or Gresham. Pushing Jetta up to the wing for a week makes sense, especially if his role is to push back and be another kicker off HB.

I don't mind the changes. Sheed was below standard last week, there always should be a price to pay for poor performance in a good team.

Shuey in is obviously great, while Nelson will play a role.

I think Ainsworth is a victim of the 'young players don't play after WAFL byes' rule the Eagles seem to have.

I do agree with the sentiment that Hutchings should consider himself very, very lucky to remain in the team. Going into the forward 50, he continually butchers the ball by foot.

That said though, ideally, we will have Ryan and one of either Venebles, Petch or Ainsworth coming back into the side, so unless we need a specific tagging job done, i would think Hutchings time in the seniors will be limited for the rest of the year after the bye.

Don’t hate the Sheed drop, he’s been very poor post injury and may be still not 100%. Shuey in means our team got stronger than the one from last week which won away to a better team. We mean business and this might be our strongest side on paper for the year. Let’s hurt them.

I’m not so sure. Thought it was a good opportunity to play more youth. Ainsworth or Petch I thought would be considered. Feels like the MC might be getting conservative already

Been coming all season, not surprised in the slightest

Was there a bit of talk around preseason of Sheed not putting in enough work?

The guy's no longer a junior player but still has a bit of that junior player's disproportionate body about him. You get nuggets like Shuey, power athletes like Yeo/Dangerfield or even running machines like Gaff that are never going to be huge but have got their body to a stage where they can get the best out of it. Sheed still looks like his head's too big and shoulders/arms are too small, kinda just looks like a regular dude not an AFL player. This is one visual sign of him not giving 100%, maybe going missing in games is another. I certainly think if he'd put in the physical work to gain either size or running explosiveness he'd be breaking a few more of those tackles he tries to do and not putting himself under pressure so much.

We're #1 based on effort and total team buy-in, he's best 22 but a good message to send to the players - no favourites, you don't get the best out of yourself we'll replace you with another soldier who will. Hopefully this is a wakeup call and he's playing like Redden is come season's end.

Yes because having Masten and Sheed in the same team has been going terribly so far

I'd prefer to see Cole on the wing than Jetta but we'll wait and see.

Would have expected Sheed to come good this week, which makes his exclusion somewhat surprising. Maybe it's something specific in his game and/or maybe it's team balance with Hutch being retained for negative/ defensive purposes. He played his career best game against Geelong, hopefully he can return that sort of form.
It was surprising but I guess it would have been out of him, Hutchings or Ah Chee. I’m happy that Ah Chee is given a chance to build into the side and I guess you can’t question Hutching’s endeavour, it’s just that his disposal is too often utter s**t. Still, it’s not the end of the world and it’s good that there is such pressure on for the midfield gig

I really like this line up.

When Ryan and Venables get back from injury I don't think they'll find it easy to break in. Most likely way in is to take Ah Chee's spot

Unless Hutch goes and Ah Chee takes his spot

I agree. I’m really keen for both to get in as soon as possible and we relive the first four rounds. Unless LeCras and Masten submit to injury its going to be hard. Pencil in Ainsworth, Petch and The forgotten Partington as desirable inclusions and the MC will need to decide whether to play youth or go conservative. Either way we will probably win the premiership. How exciting if they play youth. Got a bunch of real winners on the fringe

Sheed started the season well. He was one of our best against Geelong. He was tracking ahead of Redden for probably the first five weeks. But that's turned around big time lately. Sheed was injured and then wasn't very good at all in the games since his return. Still a bit of a surprise to drop him as I consider him to be pretty solidly best 22. Our midfield has been going well but it's not suddenly so awesome that Sheed isn't good enough to get a game.

Maybe Nelson goes to the BP and Snoop Duggie Duggan rolls through the middle.

Or do you reckon "The Hacksaw" Liam Duggan is a better chance to stick?

Have you completely missed the 2018 season to this point?? Simmo said they tried to turn Masten into an inside mid, it didn't work, so now he just runs and links up and we're kicking ass. It's called playing to your strengths. And Rosa, Ebert and Scooter weren't exactly soft as well

I'm all for Masten playing that role but I'm not convinced he's actually doing a great job of it. He's not very high volume or particularly damaging. If you're going to play a totally outside and uncontested style, those are the boxes you need to tick. At least when Gaff played that way, he was getting 30 touches. Masten is doing it and getting 20.
