Out: Masten
In: Shuey

Sheed might get given a role to play mainly on the wing, try to get him to get some confidence back, he's been a bit down, Duggan/Jetta will fill in some minutes out there too. Hutchings will keep his place for now. No one wants a rest, everyone wants to be part of a winning team, they don't want to risk their spot/form by taking a rest.

I see us making pretty much only forced changes as long as we're mostly winning.
Usually the wing is where your best runners play, sheed runs like his hips are about to fall off.also hes an extremely slow decision maker when given space, something you hope a wingman can find plenty of

Good decision maker in space though and very good kick of the footy when he has time. Agree on the running gait tho

Going on form
Out:Sheed confidence low back to WAFL.
Out:Masten - injured
In: Shuey for Sheed
In: Petruccelle for Masten
Leave Kennedy in - needs to get his timing right for clunking more marks. Would be on top of the goal kicking if he took in half the grabs he already attempted.

I think this is a perfect game to give another one of our kids a debut.

Move either rioli or Cripps up onto the wing, and bring in Matty Allen or Brander into the forward 50

In:
Schuey
M Allen/Brander

Out:
Masten
Hutch

His limited minutes was playing with a hamstring strain. Did ok to run out the game but it's been confirmed he'll miss untl after the bye.

We all saw Yeo's knee get twisted, not making things up.
Link to confirmation or you have made this up. Only limited minutes this year was against Richmond while getting his knee assessed. Every other game has been 105-120 minutes played. So you made that up to.

Becomes a bit Land Of The Giants with Kennedy, Darling, Waterman and BrandAllen all down there, plus the occasional resting ruck

He was talking about Masten wasn't he?

So a mid for another tall? When questions are being asked whether we are too tall already?

You don’t really think about things, do you?

In: Petrucelle, Shuey, M Allen (debut)
Out: Masten (injury), Hutchings (nobody needing to be tagged), it feels like there is a tall carry a niggle and feels like Barrass or Waterman

Ah Chee to go on the wing to play the Masten role.
Petrucelle in to play the half forward role
Shuey straight swap in midfield for Hutch

It is all about playing roles.

On the contrary, you don't really think about things.

St kilda will be missing Jake Carlisle and will be stretched massively due to their lack of tall key defenders. Another tall for us in our forward line this week won't hurt at all

And, this is St kilda we are talking about, a cellar dweller who we will beat in the midfield, and our quick kicking into the forward line will favor our talls. At home. Its not like we are playings the demons at the MCG this week.

And, Brander and Matthew Allen have both been in form and deserve a debut.

I await your counter argument.

That's quite OK this week, saint kilda are already without Carlisle and will struggle mightily

They'll struggle against Darling and Kennedy as it is. Adding an extra tall will just make it easier for their smalls to run the ball out on the odd occasion they actually manage to bring it to ground, won't it?

Why not really drive the advantage home, give Rioil and Lecca a rest and bring in Brander, Mellen and McInnes?

If the Saints will struggle to compete with four key forwards imagine how much more they'll struggle against six!

Why would we play an extra tall? They don't have Carlisle or Brown this week.

If anything we could go smaller but having a land of the giants is suicide.

I don't understand the obsessions to blood Brander and Allen. Play the strongest possible side and rotate and rest players towards the end of the year, not Round 10.

That would be true if they had a wealth of quality small defenders, but they don't.

This is St kilda we are talking about

So their smalls won't be good enough to get the ball out of the backline against our giants?

Honestly, I don't think they will be.

For a forward line full of our big men, they all tackle hard, chase, and are not exactly slow. Even if Nic Nat is the resting ruckman he is like a cat at ground level.

Cripps is leading the AFL in tackles inside 50m I think, and along with Rioli, waterman, le cras, Darling and to a lesser extent, Kennedy, they would want to have a hell of a lot of speed and quality foot disposal to get it out of the forward 50 effectively.

Richmond, a team in the premiership equation, described our team via Damien hardwick that we are big, we are strong, and we are (most importantly) fast

What would Brander or Mellen add to that? Do they possess above average pace or agility? If not, is it worth bringing in another tall who's only going to be the fifth or sixth option on any given forward entry? Why would we bother playing a lumbering tall who's not going to command the ball, as opposed to say Petruccelle who's also not going to command the ball but will add pressure on the defenders to lock it inside 50?

I do see what you are saying, but I still believe this weekend offers an opportune time to bloody another young tall. Brander and Allen add additional size, and I don't disagree that a guy like petrucelle might be a better fit, but, I am certain petch will definitely get games in the year due to his leg speed and goal nous.

Outside of our final game of the year where we may have locked in a top 4 spot, I can't see another game in our draw (barring injury to one of our existing talls) where we could conceivably debut one of our young key position guys without worry.

We will account for the saints this weekend, comfortably. Give one of Brander of Allen a small taste of the big time at home. Keep the debutants coming in for future development.

And if we lose because we underestimated them and their smalls killed us with their run from the backline with our talls unable to impose defensive pressure to lock it in?

If a player is playing injured (eg Masten) then by all means rest them but we have the bye next week and the competition is even. If we start taking the Saints easy we will lose.
