was rubbish in his early years and many didnt want him. It would help if we had a decent midfield around bailey. We only have Shuey and Kelly who offer anything and Yeo when fit.

Cox wasn’t rubbish. He won a Simpson medal as a 19 year old in his first year In the wafl. He took a couple of years to grow into his body and get his fitness up but he at the same age as Williams is that far ahead Williams its not even a comparison

I liked some of Williams' work taking the ball out of the ruck and clearing the ball early in the game.

Also think those who say Jamo is by far the superior option overlook the fact he barely rucks at the moment and averages 7 or so hit outs a game. That's hardly a sample size to say he's the better ruck option long term.

I too doubt that Bailey is the answer but he's got the rest of the year to prove otherwise.

Scotty Lycett had played 20 games by the end of 2014 and was averaging 12 disposals and 14 hit outs. It's easy to forget that he didn't become consistent until after 2017. He did have the odd blinder along the way.

Maybe we have to accept Williams won't show much until 50 games and he hits his mid 20s.

If people think Jamieson has a better chance of making it than Billiams, it's because he's offering more around the ground. He's too skinny to do much in ruck contests right now, but he throws in at the ground-level, gets in the right places and is tidy with the ball.

I really hope so, but the big difference is that Scotty Up The Coasters Lycett (certified club legend) was always crackin' in hard, at least when he was fit enough to get on the field. Was never the best tap, but his strength was to make a contest every single time.

He would've played heaps more games if a) we didn't have the Cox/Naitanui combo, and b) if he had a bit more luck with injuries. Hell, we even got to experience the infamous Woosha 'three ruck' experiment cos Lycett was banging down the door.

If you could take Lycett's aggressive mindset a put it into Bailey's brain, we'd have a player I reckon. But unfortunately he looks even less confident than in his first year.

While an 81kg ruckman looks out of place I am often surprised how light some of the bigger players are. Endurance based sport I guess.

You give Jamieson Bailey Williams athleticism and frame and you have a top 3 in the league ruck. Unfortunately not going to happen. Williams just isn't a natural footballer and isn't instinctive in any way at all. He may end up being serviceable as a subpar ruckman until we find something better but it's getting to a point where we need better rucks developing.

Yes. it’s the club’s fault. As I remember it, B Williams was recruited as a KPF and we’ve tried to make him into a main ruck. A bit like recruiting hbfs and trying to make them into midfielders or vice versa. I’m not as down on Bailey as some others. He has some tools to be an AFL player but it’s not gelling together atm. Big ask on him currently.

I struggle to see how Jamieson can make it. He just doesn’t have the size, and this was evident when he was recruited.

That’s not how I recollect it at all.

Thought he was recruited as a ruck with a big leap that could also play forward. Lycett had left that offseason and we had an injured NicNat and a couple of journeymen in Hickey and Vardy, so a young ruck prospect was very much a need.

I agree we got him as a RUCK/fwd.

We've just butchered it by turning a big kid into a scrawny young man (comparatively) who gets outbodied all the time and can't seem to influence a contest. Concrete hands and poor timing of his best attribute - his leap - compounds things.

The problem with Bailey as others have mentioned, is he has all the tools to dominate, but seems clueless as to how to use them. He has a massive leap but his timing is awful in the ruck and marking contests. If he does get his hands to the ball first in marking contests he most times drops it, and when he finally takes a mark up forward, he often sprays his kick.

I dont think he is undersized in muscle terms, its just that the other rucks are much bigger than him (height and overall mass).

Williams is turning into what everyone originally accused Naitanui of being. A guy with a good leap that cant play AFL. The difference with Nic is he can play the game and influence it as best as anyone. Bailey looks like he is from another country or sport and is struggling to work it out. Like a poor mans Mason Cox or Israel Folau. Does he even dominate at WAFL level?

I think it's too early to make a call on BW. Definitely should not be delisted at this stage IMO. He had a shocker against the Hawks with mistimed jumps, dropped marks and shanked kicks. That was a day to forget no doubt. But those sorts of games are expected as a young inexperienced player. In general he is improving in his timing (just look at some early season games for comparison), and is doing a lot better at following up taps with possession and handballs out of congestion.

Needs to increase his core strength so he's not pushed out of position in ruck and marking contests so easily. Not a lost cause yet I reckon.

We have to persist for another year at least given our list situation. I think our kids get set up to fail because our whole program is too heavily slanted to running and there seems to be no tailoring of players programs to their natural proclivities and body shapes.

Williams should have been smashing weights and getting stronger. He only ever needed to be able to spell Naita for 40-45% of a game. He doesn't need to have a huge tank at this stage of his career. Better to be competitive when you are on the ground than useless. It just ruins confidence.
