There a bigger difference between Jericho and Lewis than there is between GAJ and Lewis
Disagree, the similarities between the two LJ's are startling!!

Both have/had the necessary talent to be good AFL players, both failing/failed to get the most out of their undoubted talents due to work ethic mainly.

My money is on the more likely outcome of Johnston's career mirroring that of Luke Jericho than that of GAJ.

Jericho is the only player I have ever seen singlehandedly lose us a game.

when I look at LJ playing footy I don't see a lack of effort - I see a lack of pace, a lack of strength and a lack of fitness.

he seems to be trying but physically comes up short, IMO he is clearly an incredibly lazy trainer and needs a ****ing rocket (like GAJ) because he has the head and the leg to be a great footballer.

Seriously. This is rock bottom and there isn't at least 3 changes i'm going to be crushed.

Anyway what i'd do.

In: M.Crouch, CEY, Hartigan, Laird, Cameron and Jenkins

Out: B.Crouch (Injured), Porplysia, Johnston, Shaw, Pods and Wright

Lineup.

-Hartigan--Rutten--Brown-
-Jaesnch--Talia--Laird-
-Smith--Dangerfield--Mackay-
-Grigg--Jenkins--Kerridge-
-Betts--McKernan-Cameron-
-Jacobs--Sloane--Douglas-

-CEY--Reilly--Crouch--Thompson-

Lean toward Thompson being Sub as well.

OUT: Jaensch, Mackay, McKernan, Porplyzia, Crouch

IN: Laird, CEY, Jenkins, Crouch, raffle it

Jaensch has to go for Laird, I don't care how many cheap possessions he's getting and how much he's moving the ball forwards, he moves it stupidly and doesn't stop a man. Laird doesn't have the long kick but he's smarter with his options, never gets rattled and can actually stop a man. Brown was getting pasted again on the weekend and we didn't have an option to switch with him like Port were able to do with Jonas when Betts got a hold of Impey.

Mackay has offered nothing for 2 years, and continues to offer nothing 2 games into the year. Time for CEY to have a go at helping Smith create run and carry from our half back line.

Sad to say Porplyzia looks finished. There must be someone worthy of his spot from the reserves.

Crouch for Crouch. Injury, and uninspiring. Brad should have been out of the side anyway, he's not fit. Not sure what Matt is going to do, but he can hardly do worse.

Like it or lump it, unless something extraordinary happens Podsiadly is going to be in the team every week this year. With so many out injured, Johnston is basically going to keep playing until Tom Lynch is fit enough to take the spot back.

McKernan is finished, he needs to go back to the SANFL team and see what it's like to have a rookie go past him in a single season, and Jenkins can provide some contest for Betts to feed on up forward until Osborn is ready to battle it out with him for real.

IN: Jenkins, M. Crouch, Laird, Hartigan
OUT: B. Crouch, Podsiadly, Porplyzia, Shaw
Hartigan, Rutten, Brown
Laird, Talia, Mackay
Smith, Dangerfield, Thompson
Kerridge, Jenkins, M.Crouch
Johnston, McKernan, Betts
Jacobs, Sloane, Douglas

I/C: Jaensch, Reilly, GriggSUB: Wright

Outs: Brad's injury is just brutal for us, Pods and Porps offered nothing, Shaw wasn't terrible but it seems he just hasn't played enough footy with all his injuries and needs to work on his kicking and defending in the reserves.

Thin Ice: Johnston and McKernan were both disappointing this week but were both good last week, both have big upside, and both must be given a chance to lock down a spot IMO. Jaensch had a decent game by his standards but can't be in the frame for us long-term, will make way for a CEY/M. Crouch/Cameron/Knight at some stage. Wright is quality on his day but stunk it up yesterday, I think he's worth persisting with but he still gets the vest. Mackay got the ball in a few good areas but burnt it by foot, should have been traded years ago but did offer run at times that we weren't getting anywhere else and we lack a good replacement. Rutten...:( undisputedly a champion of the club but is starting to become a liability against the faster-moving forwards and the game in general. Will line up well for us against Sydney and a lot of other clubs, but will have to come out against plenty of others. I know a lot of people have sounded the end for the Truck before and I've never agreed with them, but his time is growing near now sadly.

Ins: Jenkins has had a below average pre-season and has been down on confidence coming back from injury. I still see him as a competitive beast though, who could really be a player and needs to be given the opportunities. Crouch may still be a little green but I think we're still better off giving him games than Lyons seeing as the latter will never get a decent crack at it. Laird is a no-brainer IMO, level headed, great leg, pacey and a mongrel tackler. Hartigan is a massive unit with pace who I think will really be able to hold his own down back and will be able to play on a variety of forwards.

Near misses: CEY nearly came in for Mackay, flip a coin.

Long story short though we are desperate for Lynch, Otten, Henderson, Tex and now bloody Brad to get back

To be honest I struggle to get invested in these selections.

I don't think Sando or the coaching panel have any idea which players we want to invest in and which we see as backups.

Which is why Martin is in our round 1 starting 18 then a week later they change their mind and he's back to depth player.

It's the same reason why Richard Tambling still got games late last year when it was clear to all and sundry that he was destined for the chop.

It's why Matthew Jaensch is a depth player all through 2013 and then Sando has a lightbulb moment and decides to make him the main channel of our ball movement.

Lyons will probably be brought back, played out of position and then dropped a week or two later.
Porplyzia will be dropped, dominate the SANFL, come back in the following week, suck, get the green vest the next week, back to SANFL.
Matt Crouch will get a green vest then get squeezed out after struggling to pick up the pace against Sydney in the last quarter.
Random games, mostly involving a vest, will be invested into CEY, Knight, Siggins, Spina, Cameron, Battersby, mCrouch, Shaw, Martin, Lyons and at the end of the season we'll have come no closer to knowing which we want to keep, which we consider depth, which we want to trade/delist.

And every week we'll be spoonfed some random crap about 'stiff' and 'unlucky' from Droopy Dog Harper.

Best post of the day.

There is no apparent plan or system - we just stumble along from one disjointed decision to the next.

With Crouch out, do you think he could go back to the midfield role?
I have Wright in DT and SC too :p
By the look of it, he may be alternating roles depending on who we play..
You'd think so, but who knows at the moment what they're doing down there..
Depends also who comes into the team and how they're used..

Couldn't agree more on Jaensch's cheap possessions. Remember seeing him in the back pocket it was 2 on 2 (I believe), Sloane comes flying in full pace to sheppard (as the only crows player that knows what a shepperd is) and Jaensch runs off from the group expecting Sloane to get the ball and flick it to him, they grab the ball and kick an easy goal........ All he was doing was looking for the easy possession. He should not be played again, absolute depth player. Bring back Laird.

I don't give a rat's toss bag about "the stats", the key factor is whether a player can win the critical contests.

I was hoping that with another 20 games of AFL, LJ would develop into a good AFL footballer but after watching the first 2 games live, "that's all folks".

Strike one - the fumble early in the Geelong match. Strike 2 - Jogging 10 metres behind his Geelong opponent who ran 160 metres to kick a goal, Strike 3 was when he was one-on-one with Lobbe in the forward pocket in the third quarter. We were streaming into attck and he could have
1) led towards the ball carrier
2) led hard into the corridor
3) ran hard back towards the goal.

Did anyone else notice this. LJ stood passively behind Lobbe and signalled to lob a ball on Lobbe's head. Just plain dumb.

I'm sad to say, "it's time to go...............Lewis"

I want Jenkins in the side too but he hasn't actually shown anything this year, in fact seems to have gone backwards, not even doing anything in the reserves.

Pods and Mckernan have done nothing but atleast McKernan can ruck, and maybe pods can't do much more with the delivery he's been getting?

If none of them deserve to be in the side, then don't have any of them in the side.

Simple.

Plus Lairdy shows more hunger for the contest which Jaensch show shit all of

The midfield is fine for the most part IMO, the reason they're struggling is from being stretched too thin having to patch up holes up forward and down back which is where the real problems are, particularly up forward.

Douglas, Sloane, Grigg, Jacobs and Thompson where all fine, although Danger still needs more support from these guys when he's being tagged so closely. I'm liking what I'm seeing from Kerridge too playing in VBs tagging role, almost go as far to say he's doing it better than VB was last year, kept Boak's influence to a minimum.

Forward:
Betts is the only forward who I'm confident in right now.
Smack is back to his old self, needs to be dropped and Jenkins brought back in.
Johnston is struggling to make a consistant impact, soon as Lynch is fit he needs to come back in.
Pods is just not looking dangerous and is having minimal impact, almost a certain out as soon as Walker's ready.
Wright was good against the Cats but struggled against Port, needs to lift next week.

Back:
Rutten is just getting run ragged too often, is going to struggle against anyone with any speed. Hartigan the obvious replacement but not sure if he's ready.
Talia was alright, needs better support from his fellow defenders.
Jaensch was again alright but I like Laird in the position better as Laird is harder at the contest.
Shaw is really struggling and Otten needs to come back in ASAP as IMO he's the better choice.
Brown was alright still getting better but needs more improvement.
Reilly I won't be too hard on in his first game back, did some good things but needs to step it up in the next few weeks.

OUT: Smack, Crouch (inj)
IN: Jenkins, Crouch Jr

As soon as they're fit.
OUT: Pods, Johnston, Shaw
IN: Walker, Lynch, Otten

It's hard to say Jaensch should be dropped when he's playing well but as soon as his from falters, Laird comes in.
