Preview Changes vs Swans

To be honest I struggle to get invested in these selections.

I don't think Sando or the coaching panel have any idea which players we want to invest in and which we see as backups.

Which is why Martin is in our round 1 starting 18 then a week later they change their mind and he's back to depth player.

It's the same reason why Richard Tambling still got games late last year when it was clear to all and sundry that he was destined for the chop.

It's why Matthew Jaensch is a depth player all through 2013 and then Sando has a lightbulb moment and decides to make him the main channel of our ball movement.

Lyons will probably be brought back, played out of position and then dropped a week or two later.
Porplyzia will be dropped, dominate the SANFL, come back in the following week, suck, get the green vest the next week, back to SANFL.
Matt Crouch will get a green vest then get squeezed out after struggling to pick up the pace against Sydney in the last quarter.
Random games, mostly involving a vest, will be invested into CEY, Knight, Siggins, Spina, Cameron, Battersby, mCrouch, Shaw, Martin, Lyons and at the end of the season we'll have come no closer to knowing which we want to keep, which we consider depth, which we want to trade/delist.

And every week we'll be spoonfed some random crap about 'stiff' and 'unlucky' from Droopy Dog Harper.
Our selection policy encapsulated perfectly

Out
LJ - good one minute however soft and lazy most of the time
Wright, has continued off from 2013 with poor opening round performances
Crouch, injured
Smack, thought he was worse than JPod

In
Charlie to replace LJ as we need more speed and forward pressure inside forward 50
Laird to replace Wright and push Matty J from defence to forward
Matt Crouch to come in for his brother, need to play him he is a talent
JJ comes in for Smack

I think Wright still gets a game. Who wasn't crap today? Sloan, Thomo, smith, betts ok to. The rest meeeah.

Out: Pods, LJ, Shaw, Porps, Crouch (inj)
In: Jenkins, Ellis-Yolmen, Lyons, Crouch Jr, Cameron

You serious???

Easily in our best 3 today!!!!!
Stood up in the third yep, but not really sighted for much of the game. He should be leading the midfield, but its Dougy and Sloane. We've been smashed two weeks in a row. Our midfield would have to be leading the league clanger count.

How far away is Tom Lynch??

We are really missing the ranga's run and scoring potential up forward, not to mention the defensive forward pressure he brings to the table.......something LJ is seriously deficient at sadly!!

He did nothing against the Cats and him being the sub today meant that he was on notice. He didn't provide anything and should/will be dropped as a result, and could have very well played his last game.
A sub cant do it alone when he comes into a side in last quarter that is being beaten all over the park

Sorry, just cannot agree with you on that score!!

Wright played well last week, and then did a fairly decent tagging job on Pittard today. There is no way he should be dropped.

Porps and Smack are the two that just have to go, Laird and Jenkins to come in. Matt Crouch or Lyons to replace Snr Crouch. When was the last time we made more than 3 changes under Sando?

Rowey said he saw him on the way to the game, should be in the mix this week. \

I am an optimist and a patient man but the facts are

1) We are not contenders this year and probably will not be contenders next year

2) We have a group of players who are "solid" AFL players but will never play in our next flag. (Rutten, Porplyzia, Reilly and Podz)

3) We also have another group of players that have been in the system for 5+ years and will never be good AFL players (Jaensch, Martin, Graham, LJ )

4) We have some young players who may or may not make the grade

We have to ignore groups 2 and 3 and put games into the younger players and KIDS. Let's face it, Jarryd Lyons is not a KID anymore. Give him ten games and see if he is up to it. As frustrating as it might be to see Sam Shaw, Shaun McKernan and Luke Brown turn over the ball, at least there is a chance that they will develop into good AFL players.

Strawman
Sub is a tough gig.

There are half a dozen guys in the gun sights before him:
Pods, Smack, LJ, Jaensch, Shaw, Reilly. Even Danger and Crouch stank more.
Could you make weaker arguments?

Out: Porps, LJ, McKernan, Shaw

In: Jenkins, Lynch (longshot here), Laird, M.Crouch (sub)

Pods gets once more chance cause he's on a new team. Rutten is on thin ice too and could make way for Hartigan. CEY, Riley Knight and Charlie Cameron all standing in waiting.

Hinkley said some interesting things about Impey today. They asked him about having Betts kick 4 on him and Hinkley basically said he's a young kid who they expect to be in the side for a long time, so they're going to back him in, even if he does make some mistakes. Would like to see Sando do that with some of our kids. None of this sub, first in/ first out stuff. Take a Crouch, Cameron or whoever and tell 'em "We think you're going to be very good, we're putting you out there, if you make mistakes, make sure you learn from them, but don't go out there thinking I'm going to drag you if you make a little mistake. Just go out there and take the game on"

We say:

"One bad game and you'll be dropped for Porplyzia."

Or

"He'll play a lot of footy this year. But not right now...."

This is one of the best posts I've ever seen on Big Footy.

Especially the last paragraph.

Is Danger injured or hit his head before or during the game, because that was the worse I have ever seen him play. His decision making was comical.

That short pass up the northern end when he marked it 35 metres out...that's going to give me nightmares for weeks.

Jack I'm fairly patient once I've calmed down and analysed the game.
Point 1. Agree. With the team we are putting on the park atm the moment we are not.
Point 2. Agree and we need to start finding replacements for them. Think Hartigan for Truck, LJ or Lynch for Porps, CEY or Hendo for Reilly and JJ or McKernan for Pods.
Point 3. Yes we have dead wood. Jaensch and LJ might still make it, but Martin and Graham are gone at seasons end.
Point 4. Development in the SANFL I still believe will help, but if they are trying to execute the same game plan as the Senior side they are in for a long year.

If there is a game plan atm the players aren't up to executing it. Need to go back to 2012 run and gun.

Danger has started the year in horrible form. Some of the things he did today just were so not Danger.
Grigg hasn't come on as we would have liked, not helped by being subbed when probably Crouch should have been, Wright is slightly below par, Crouch is now injured, Hendo injured, Tex not there, Otto and Lynch not in the side and our skills are horrendous. Porps and Pods are playing like old men and we still bomb it on the forwards heads far too often. Our tackling is still shite, our contested ball is still shite, we crack under pressure. Some faces have changed, but the same crap is still happening game day. It has to come back to the coaching panel and behind the scenes. Big broom needed.

Shaw's disposal just isn't up to scratch and he is too slow. We can't have Rutten, Shaw and Talia as our three tall defenders. We are hampered sure by Hendo's and Otto's injuries, but if we are going to give games to a third tall defender it should be Hartigan or CEY.
Jaensch as much as he tries will never be a small defender. Laird needs to take his position and allow him to play wing/HFF. Think he could still make it no matter what I ranted in the gameday thread.

LJ suffered from the fact that neither Pods or McKernan did FA yesterday. Maybe should have been the player out of the goal square, but you are right in the fact he gets beaten too easily in the contest. People saying drop him have to remember that apart from Betts he is the next best goal kicker.
