Preview Changes vs Swans

Anyone that thinks that we have had the players to win a flag in the last 7 years is deluded. We had to do everything right and have a heap of luck if we were ever to be a genuine premiership chance. My concern is that based on the performance on the weekend, we are further from a flag than we were 3 years ago. We are at least 3 years from being a genuine contender and we have to start focussing on the long term. JPod may help us to avoid the wooden spoon but who GAF? It would have been better to start this journey 2-3 years ago but injuries in 2011 and 2013 have actually helped us to get games into our younger players. We can't drop everyone this week and although many will not like it, I think we have to keep Jaensch, Shaw and McKernan in the team this week. Their time may well come pretty soon if we stop collecting injuries.

The three players that must go are Podz, Porps and LJ. None of these guys will be anywhere near the AFL in 2 years time.

Out - Crouch (inj), JPod, Porps, LJ

In - Crouch, Laird, Lyons and Jenkins

On Notice

- Truck; I think he is cooked but Hatigan or Siggins have to take his spot, using JJ as a tall defender is not out of the question.
- Reilly; Will also not be around for our next flag, use him as a depth player to cover injuries.
- McKernan; We have to give him 6-8 games in a row and then make a call once and for all.
- Shaw; I personally think he needs half a dozen games and he will be away (or he will be injured).
- Jaensch; Not a backman's arseh*le. I know that Henderson isn't available but why build our defence around Jaenschy. Play him on a wing or half forward or provide free prozac to all supporters.
- Mackay - Nice bloke but..................
Great thought process. I would love to knee jerk and dump smack too, but I think you are spot on.

Tell him he is in the side for the next two months no questions asked. Just go and play football son. Then you call it.

It was sad watching you lot...truly sad.
LJ and Pods were crap...could Rutten go forward as he was a liability in your backline.
Hartigan, Laird, M.Crouch and Cam EY would have to play next week?
Sloane, Smith and Betts can swap clubs anytime.

Agree on Shaw and McKernan.

I think you are over-eulogising about the state of the list and not talking enough about how tactically unsound we are.

The biggest difference between us and Port on Saturday was in the coaches box - both tactically and philosophically. And I'm not just talking in the week leading up.

A team that concedes 30 goals from turnovers in two games is on a coach-led path to self-destruction.

Why not extend that same love to Johnston? He needs to be given an extended run. Why? Because he kicks goals.

Johnston has played our last 7 games in a row and kicked 15.8. He keeps going at this trajectory and we have a 45 goal forward on our hands.

I couldn't give two shits about his defensive efforts. He kicks goals. We need goalscorers. Get him up and running and he is a great 2nd target behind Tex.

I just don't see the potential in him.

He reminds me of the crows pre-blight when we were all glitz and glamour but didn't value the 1%ers.

Jenkins to play?

I am not suggesting that we have the worst list in the AFL, far from it. I rate our list with everyone available in the 4th-10th range. The problem is that we are a long way from the top 3 or 4 teams and putting 22 games into JPod, Porps and Rutten will not get us any closer. We need to be bold if we are to bridge the gap. This means giving players like Grigg, M Crouch, Kerridge, Shaw and Lyons every opportunity to prove themselves. We need to play Jenkins until it hurts and we need to test the guys at the next level down (CEY, Hartigan, Atkins, Cameron, Knight). If any of the other rookies put in 4 weeks of good footy in the SANFL then give them a taste.

If fit, the only players who should be picked are Laird, Otten, Brown, Talia, Smith, Dangerfield, Douglas, B Crouch, Jacobs, Sloane, Betts, Lynch and Walker. (I'm assuming that there will be little point rushing back vB and Hendo.

Never to play again should be Porplyzia, LJ, JPod, Martin and Graham (make a call on McKernan and Rutten after round 8).

I'd be interested to see if anyone who has seen the first 2 rounds live would dispute my call on LJ, he looks much worse in the flesh since you can see how slow and unfit he is compared to the opposition.

Our game plan seems less than state of the art but this may be more execution than the plan itself. I may be a dumb schmuck but I did say before the match that we can't afford to let Polec and Hartlett wander around like unregistered dogs. I do applaud the Kerridge tag on Boak but why boost Polec's confidence by allowing him to run around as a loose man in defence in the first quarter (p.s. don't mention this to Spackler).

Correct.

We have conceded more points than any other team in the competition after two rounds.

There are some terribly misguided supporters that think everything is fine and its only 2 games.

Nah - look at the talent Port has accumulated. 4 of their best players for the day were Hartlett (#4), Wingard (#6), Ebert (#12), Polec (#5). Throw in Boak (#5), Butcher (#8), Wines (#7), Pittard (#16), Monfries (#14), Lobbe (#17).

Thats a side that has over 1/4 of their starting 22 as top 10 picks. Overall that side on Saturday had 10 first round draft picks playing. The killer is that 9/10 all have improvement left in them, whilst Monfries should be in his prime.

Compare that with us. We had 7 first round draftees playing - Reilly, Thompson, Smith, Danger, Talia, Johnston, Douglas. Only one of these was a top 10 pick and the was #10 Danger. Of these 7 players - 2 are way passed their best football, 1 should be in their prime and 4 have their best football in front of them.

The fact of the matter is we lack the talent and strength of list that these other clubs have.

I don't care if we had Blighty/Roos/Lyon/Sheedy/Malthouse all in the coaches box on Saturday - we still don't win that game of footy.

The amount of hate Sando is getting is incredible.

2012 - Winning games. All hail Sando! The saviour we always wanted!

2014 - Losing games. Sando sucks! Sack him now before he leads us to oblivion!

Sounds like Port bandwagonners. Yeah great coaches sure can turn teams around and make them good. Just look at Melbourne. Oh wait..........

I wasn't at the Geelong game, but have watched it and a replay. I was at the showdown and have seen a replay. I dispute your call. He was good against Geelong and not good at all against Port. He is a young player who needs a good run. He is younger than McKernan, who you want to have an extended run. Johnston deserves this as much as Smack. As I said before - has played the last 7 games in a row for our club and kicked 15.8. Average that out to a full season and he is hitting 45 goals which is a fantastic result.

I think he will be dropped for JJ unfortunately. Then we will see JJ get 2 games and then LJ back in for 2 games before Tex comes back.

I may be a dumb schmuck

Smartest thing you have posted on big footy in a while.[/quote]

2012 - Winning games. All hail Sando! The saviour we always wanted!

2013 - losing games. It's okay, small hiccup whilst we get over Tippett fiasco, had a shit preseason, we'll rebound

2014 - still losing games. Sando sucks! Sack him now before he leads us to oblivion!
......

Edited for accuracy.

The deficiencies in Sando's gameplan were evident in the 2012 finals series, but we're covered up to a certain extent thanks to some awesome individual efforts. 18 months on and these very same deficiencies are rife and we are playing like a complete rabble and we're absolutely humiliated on the biggest day in SA football since the 2007 grand final, during which Port were also humiliated and it took them how many years to rebuild?

We can hurt these ****ers if we can get up here and show some pride.

They are drowning in off-field pain. Lets give it back to them. 0-3 would put them in a tail spin. Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of syds.

Huge game for us to regain our fortress and get sweet revenge on these arseholes while they're down.

Johnson stay for the fact that he kicks goals. Delivery was horrendous and I think his laid back manner has many of side. He did more than Pods and Smack and if it was the choice between who of the three goes out for JJ then its Pods. He does need to work on his second efforts, but he is hardly alone in that regard.

I'm tired of their BS Bloods culture.

I see a Club potentially tearing itself apart by the decision to pay a single player $10m. Losing cola was a bonus too.

They're under the pump with all these rumours about drugs and punch ons, make no mistake. Its written deliciously all over Longmuire's face. Lets not give them an inch. Hold their head underwater :D

I'm not sure if Tippett not playing is a good or bad thing for us. Maybe we will focus better instead of being Tippett conscious.

Talia plays well on Buddy so that's a plus too. We owe them for 2012.

This game could very well be won at the selection table this week and in the box on game day.

I agree but our club doesn't have that killer instinct.

This is CEY's third yr on the list and we are playing shit and have injuries. If he can't get a game now then when will he?

I just don't see the potential in him.
