Preview Changes vs Swans

and our delivery and coaching has been crap, entering forward 50 to an outnumbered forward line and allowing Polec run free was a recipe for disaster.

Did you read what Polec said after the game? Hinkley after the Geelong game saw how we butchered the ball going forward and decided to position Polec to pick up the slops. We took a qtr and 9 possessions later to react.

Same thing happened with the round 12 Tigers game at the G last year. Delideo running amok for first 2 quarters.
We wake up from our self imposed hibernation when the game is done and dusted.

Same shite, different year, same result!!

Having said that Sando uses the sub as a final warning and not to blood new players (he has mentioned before that he doesn't think it's fair to debut as the sub). But would Matt Crouch be able to run out a full game?

That's a good point, Tex was in, Tex was out, Craigy wanted the 1%'s. Then Tex was a chasing machine even when there seemed no hope. Maybe LJ will learn to.

Ironically I think it was Tredrea that put him on the work rate straight and narrow... for whatever reason Craigy's instruction method didn't work with Tex.

Pods will not be dropped after just two games. It will basically admitting that after two games, it was a massive mistake to recruit a 30+ age player on a 2 year contract. Egg on face it will be if they dropped him. He will have a semi-gold pass.

Pods is a flat track bully and with our "soft" run coming up he should excel. I am envious though at what Chapman is doing for the Dons, didnt really see that level of output or performance from him, great move by the Dons.

Sando at most likes to make about 3 ins to a team, so I can see MC coming in for BC and Cameron/Pets for Porps. Laird will come in, I just dont know for whom.

I don't see much chance of Johnston transforming the way Walker did. He just doesn't have the mongrel in him.

You know what, thats exactly what I thought too, he is really a passive bloke. In the AFL you do need a bit of aggro which I he really lacks.

I'd buy a Port membership if it meant he became our full time forward coach, and I'd almost rather kill myself than buy a Port membership.

Chapman's ability was never in question, what was in question was how long he could play to that standard until he gets another hamstring injury, and with his age and history there are no short hamstring injuries. Jury is still out on that one.

I know it's fashionable to belt LJ for lack of effort.

He's currently 11th on our list for average tackles and 12th for average 1% ers.

Given he basically plays as a key forward, I reckon there is a few other blokes to look at harder for lack of effort

That's a bit disappointing, he was no.1 in the entire AFL last year for forward pressure acts in his 5 game run to years end.

Now he's only good, was elite ;)

Was never bad, despite the wrong opinions to the contrary

JPod is a soft track Bully is a remarkably stupid comment

Yes he is 32yrs old, yes he has not played well in the first two rounds and yes he might be struggling to adjust to a new team and forward structure but his resume shows that he is not a flat track bully

I watched him live kick a bag full of goals against Hawthorn at the G, a flat track bully he is not and deserves more respect for what he has achieved since entering the AFL system

Yeah its a good point. As poor as he has been, if I had to bet my life on which key forward will be the better player this week, Id probably go with him. His body is still in good shape, I honestly believe there is still some good football left in him. Its been hard to watch so far though and he deserves a lot of the criticism directed at him.

JPod will play. For all the talk i suspect changes will be fairly soft this week.

Out:
Smack
Porps
B Crouch

In:
Jenkins
Lyons
M Crouch

M Couch to be Sub

Our delivery to our forwards has been so garbage that most of them would struggle; but Pods has flat out sucked - the odd time the delivery has been spot on, he's misread it, he's dropped simple marks, he's fresh-aired a couple, shanked a few kicks.

He just doesn't look up to it anymore - and he should not be keeping Jenkins out of the side.

I agree - but he is Sando's mate, so will play.

Im not sure its Pods keeping JJ out of the team. I think there is a straight up choice between Smack and JJ that needs to be made.

He is not keeping Jenkins out it was JJ poor pre season form that led to that plus the tooth fairy dreaming that McKernan was going to do something .
Least Pods has done something in last few years to warrant another game which McKernan has not done in whole time at club.
Anyway they are not going to drop Pods to keep egg off face . Jenkins is a certain in but what other tall forward options do we have .
Certainly don't want to see repeat of Eddie trying to out mark 3 talls like last week after LJ went off.

How far away are Lynch and Laird?

You would think Laird would be a strong chance to play after 2 trial games now.

Lynch I have no idea. No major damage to his shoulder was done and I never see him with strapping. Fitness wise he shouldn't be affected that badly also. Hoping to see him return during the string of 4 games before the bye.

Final call before teams get released.

Lyons in for porpoise
M.crouch in for b.crouch
Laird in, but not sure who for

Don't think we will change our big men. Also I wouldn't be surprised if Martin or Petrenko get a crack

I really hope that if we play Crouch the younger, we do it from the start of the game. He is NOT the type to be a sub.
A sub player needs the ability to run with pace and in bursts that the tired players can't go with. BoB is an accumulator - he is not suited to a sub role.
I fear we are still to dumb to realise what the sub role really needs. Playing Porps in that role is just plain stupid. One can only hope we figure it out at some stage in the next two years.

Personally I'd go:

OUT: Porps, Brad, possibly LJ (if injured)

IN: BoB, Laird, Jenkins (if LJ injured)

Laird goes in to defence. Jaensch moves to a forward/wing role. BoB is in on ball rotations.

Team:

F: Betts Mckernan LJ
HF: Douglas Pods Jaensch
C: Sloane Danger Smith
HB: Laird Talia Reilly
FB: Shaw Rutten Brown

R: Jacobs Thompson Wright

IC: Kerridge M Crouch Grigg
Sub:Mackay

Injuries aside I'd then look to sub out either Thompson or M Crouch for Mackay.

You mean he shouldn't be keeping out the guy who has kicked 1 goal in 3 SANFL trial matches? If this is who we are hoping to bring in to fix our forward line woes, we are in even worse trouble than I thought.

We need to persist with Pods, McKernan, Johnston because there is nobody else. Let them have 5-6 games together. See what happens.
