Preview Changes vs Swans

It seemed like Petrenko was on the outer in the preseason. He played a very underwhelming game against Carlton and then got relegated to the SANFL trial team the next week. Admittedly I haven't watched the SANFL trials but I haven't heard of Petrenko firing a shot. Not getting named in the best players, not impacting the scoreboard.

But I dunno, players seem to arbitrarily float in and out of our plans so I guess it makes sense that he got recalled.

I wonder how many midfield pantsings it will take before people stop spouting this crap.
I wonder how long it will take for posters to realise that you can't play with 22 midfielders every week and that Lyons coming in this week would have been utterly pointless, as he offers zero tackling pressure as a half forward. Pets coming in makes perfect sense.

Seems the selectors saw what was obvious to most re Lewis Johnston, must get a harder edge to his game if he wants to succeed at AFL level i.e. impact more contests, crash some packs and bring the ball to ground!!

Disappointed Jarrod Lyons hasn't got another crack but I'm guessing Pets will most likely be sub and come on for Matty Crouch when/if he starts to feel the pinch late in the game. I actually think Pets is an ideal sub as he certainly injects pace and vigour and hardness when he comes on.

Hartigan, Jenkins and Laird had to come in!!

Petrenko. lol

I like it.

When we're playing like crap, he will help inject some intensity and speed and hopefully it will be contagious and everyone else will follow suit.

I don't think he belongs in any premiership side, but he might just help to kick start our season.

At last, we ****ing get the selections right! Still not overly happy that Pods is still in but with LJ getting subbed, the writing was on the wall there if Pods is still playing the way he is when Walker returns, he could be in trouble. Has Porps played his last game for the Crows? One would think probably not but I just don't see why he should return to the side.

I said it earlier in the week, I think we will go small this week

OUT:
Mckernan- might be due to injury, may not. But he won't play. Jenkins to come in. This is definitely not the last we will see of Smack, he had a good pre season, and I still think he can make it, he may have been injured last week which explains why we didn't see much of him

Shaw- gets opened up by defenders, and so does Reilly. Shaws decision making pretty bad aswell

Crouch- injury. One crouch for another this week. Almost like when Mark Waugh replaces Steve Waugh

Porpoise- collingwood game last year has been his only good game in a long time

LJ- effort last week was bad. Some posters on here believe he is footy smart to go along with his kicking...disagree completely. Not smart enough to get to the right spots, not smart enough to use the ball well up the field, and not smart enough to realise he has to work harder. Would be playing if we didn't have pods, but irrelevant, as they are both gone when tex returns. And is this guy even a good kick?

INS:
Matt crouch
Laird
Petrenko
Jenkins
Lyons or Hartigan (depends if they think Reilly can take a third forward)

Reallt hope these are the changes, especially Matt crouch. And let's hope he doesn't get the green vest

This guy.

What are the lotto numbers this week please?

We've dropped two tall forwards and only 1 replacement, we're playing one of the better defensive teams. A team we've had issues scoring against.

I can sense another flogging.

The only way i can see us kicking a winning score is if Danger plays predominantly in forward 50, with only occasional bursts on ball.

Glad to see M Crouch. As has been said, our ability inside the contest is vastly overrated as the incumbents are underperforming badly. I'd get Lyons in soon as well.

IN: Matt Crouch (debut), Kyle Hartigan, Josh Jenkins, Rory Laird, Jared Petrenko
OUT: Brad Crouch (leg), Shaun McKernan (concussion), Lewis Johnston (omit), Jason Porplyzia (omit), Sam Shaw (omit)

god dammit Sando, WHY DIDN'T YOU DELIST HIM IF YOU'RE GOING TO DO THIS BULLSHIT!

if you think Petrenko will be able to chase midfielders up and down the wings all day you've got another thing coming!

EDIT: fwiw, I'm actually pretty pleased with the other changes considering Crouch and McKernan were forced.

am not the biggest Pets fan but will watch with interest his role with Betts. It is probably more about team balance and pressure than anything else.

Absolutely.

Haven't seen little crouch play yet so looking forward to seeing how he goes.

Anyone think we're a good chance of winning? I'm hopeful but not confident. Just read the match preview on AFL website and they've got us by 15 points? Who writes these things?

Lots to like about the selections

McKernan out - good. The preseason was a mirage. He's the same. Yes, big blokes take a long time to mature and play a lot of ordinary football before they start delivering... but ordinary footballers also play a lot of ordinary football and it can take a while to realise that they're as good as they'll ever be.

Shaw out - ok I guess. I like a lot about his game but just too unreliable by foot to play in the back half.

Porplyzia out - good. Love him but he's finished.

B Crouch out - n/a.

Johnston out - good. Has the skills but just doesn't care enough.

Jenkins in - good. A better option than McKernan.

Petrenko in - bad. Our one miss. He's had his chances surely. We've been fumbling a lot and he fumbles more than any AFL player I've ever seen (with apologies to Anthony Ingerson)

M Crouch in - good. He wasn't ready two weeks ago but is now . Should have been in from the start.

Laird in - good. Was very good last season. Love him.

So 8/9 good decisions. Surely a record!

Don't know if will help us win though but at least we haven't hindered ourselves further with our selections this week :thumbsu:

  • Interchange
  • 38 Mitch Grigg
  • 5 Scott Thompson
  • 16 Luke Brown
  • 44 Matt Crouch
Does that imply Crouch will get the green vest?

Hope not
with Laird in it MIGHT be Brown, or Grigg given he wasn't enormous last week and tore up taking off the green vest last year

IN: Jenkins, M. Crouch, Laird, Hartigan
OUT: B. Crouch, Podsiadly, Porplyzia, Shaw

Hartigan, Rutten, Brown
Laird, Talia, Mackay
Smith, Dangerfield, Thompson
Kerridge, Jenkins, M.Crouch
Johnston, McKernan, Betts
Jacobs, Sloane, Douglas

I/C: Jaensch, Reilly, GriggSUB: Wright

Outs: Brad's injury is just brutal for us, Pods and Porps offered nothing, Shaw wasn't terrible but it seems he just hasn't played enough footy with all his injuries and needs to work on his kicking and defending in the reserves.

Thin Ice: Johnston and McKernan were both disappointing this week but were both good last week, both have big upside, and both must be given a chance to lock down a spot IMO. Jaensch had a decent game by his standards but can't be in the frame for us long-term, will make way for a CEY/M. Crouch/Cameron/Knight at some stage. Wright is quality on his day but stunk it up yesterday, I think he's worth persisting with but he still gets the vest. Mackay got the ball in a few good areas but burnt it by foot, should have been traded years ago but did offer run at times that we weren't getting anywhere else and we lack a good replacement. Rutten...:( undisputedly a champion of the club but is starting to become a liability against the faster-moving forwards and the game in general. Will line up well for us against Sydney and a lot of other clubs, but will have to come out against plenty of others. I know a lot of people have sounded the end for the Truck before and I've never agreed with them, but his time is growing near now sadly.

Ins: Jenkins has had a below average pre-season and has been down on confidence coming back from injury. I still see him as a competitive beast though, who could really be a player and needs to be given the opportunities. Crouch may still be a little green but I think we're still better off giving him games than Lyons seeing as the latter will never get a decent crack at it. Laird is a no-brainer IMO, level headed, great leg, pacey and a mongrel tackler. Hartigan is a massive unit with pace who I think will really be able to hold his own down back and will be able to play on a variety of forwards.

Near misses: CEY nearly came in for Mackay, flip a coin.

Long story short though we are desperate for Lynch, Otten, Henderson, Tex and now bloody Brad to get back
I like my changes better... but I was closer than expected
