Grigg might be worth giving some thought to in that role. Come on when the pace has gone out of the game and use his freshness to cut the opposition up with his disposal..
Grigg would be my pick .....hasn't been in great form thus far

So how didn't he get subbed?
We don't know the ins and outs of it but it was reported he had blurred vision..
It was also on the injury report but was then taken off..
Possibly because of the concussion rule if he was concussed as well.. Or they'd have to explain..

If he had concussion, maybe he beat the test or it set in after the test..

Given Sydney have lost Reid and seem like they will run with the two tall forwards, I wonder if we will see Rutten having a run up forward. Might suit him more given he is not fully fit. Just a thought.

We will have three - Buddy, LRT and the resting ruck which will be Pyke for most of the time. LRT may swing back but given you guys don't have talls coming out of your ears either there may be no point as we have Richards, Grundy and Laider in the team along with Rampe who always seems to seem to be tossed against someone bigger than him. That assumes we go with 7 true backs this week but the point of LRT or Laider being a sub is totally lost on me and smarter men as well. Pretty much guarantee both start.

Should be a good game of desperation if not skill as neither team has hit any sort of form or looked likely to (with apologies to your first half effort in Geelong which was good).

Just hope both sides don't spud it up too much.

Best of luck....we sure need it as well.

Will be interesting to see how Pets goes with Eddie. They are probably after and injection of pace and pressure which was sorely lacking last week. I am not the biggest Pets fan but will watch with interest his role with Betts. It is probably more about team balance and pressure than anything else.

I'm betting his role is a regurgitation of the failed roles he played last year. He will be a defensive forward who's primary objective will be to negate the defender.
He will run, chase and have 1 outstanding tackle for the whole game and do everything else other than kick goals. The end result will be he will have contributed SFA just like last year.

Pods will also be give some negating role, not a role that you would recruit and expect a KPF to play.

Eddie Betts will be our only forward required to kick goals, everyone else be get a "role"

Pods is definitely playing. Could you imagine if LJ and Smacko got the number 1 and 2 defenders?

Contribute as little as Pods has?

We're selecting our team to avoid embarrassing our stupid decisions, it's farcical.

Absolute bullshit that LJ is out and Pods remains.

Where the **** is Lyons?!?!

Typical short sighted, dumb, cautious, stupid crap.

Pods will also be give some negating role, not a role that you would recruit and expect a KPF to play.

That would be the decoy role they were claiming, not a negator, and they won't even be able to claim that for him given that there's only one other tall in the forward line this week.

Yeah this isn't about Lyons. Or Petrenko.

My frustration with these selections is I see absolutely no vision from the club.

People mock Vader's tier list but the thing is he's attempting an impossible task. There is no way you could establish some kind of logical order from the complete randomness of our selections.

Lewis Johnston has a shocker first up preseason game against Port. He then plays in the magoos for the rest of preseason. In the final week, he kicks a bag. This apparently launches him past JJ who played decently for the firsts the whole way through. Then despite being our second highest goal kicker, LJ is dropped 2 weeks later - for JJ.

Martin has a quiet preseason until the second quarter against GWS. He kicks three good goals against GWS. All of a sudden he's apparently our form player and is promoted from apparent depth player to round 1 starting 18. He has a quiet game and is immediately dropped.

Petrenko has a shit preseason, does nothing in SANFL trials but as is always the case with Petrenko, after a few weeks out of the spotlight, people forget he's Petrenko.

What's the plan? How would any of our rank 15-30 players know where they stand when obviously the club doesn't?

I think if you tried to chart our attempts at selection and team building, you would literally end up going around in circles.

Quoted for emphasis.

LJ had 5 tackles to 1.

More goals than Pods.
More tackles than Pods.
More of a bloody future than Pods.

Great move to drop him.

What bullshit role will we invent for Pods to play when he sucks balls at the one we recruited him for again this year??

And if SMcK was friggin concussed, why didn't we sub him off; when did it happen?

Did you give yourself a pat on the back for this, and secretly smile when the usual posters liked the post?

Not really. I don't come on here for validation.

I did give a little exasperated sigh when I heard we'd picked Petrenko again though.

What I was actually getting at is that I like the move structurally, but I think they chose the wrong bloke. I don't care how good your defensive pressure is (and I actually think Petrenko's is overrated), you have to offer something in an attacking sense as a forward.

I don't mind the changes

I can understand people being critical of the Petrenko selection however IMO at this point in time three talls is not the way to go to structure up our forward line and Im very much looking forward to seeing how Betts and Petrenko can combine with each other........... Im expecting massive forward pressure

Lairdy was a monty once he gained much needed match fitness and M Crouch not only brings ball winning ability but he is also a tackling machine and we should see much better defensive pressure with Lairdy, Pets and Crouch jnr in the side

Also happy to see Hartigan get a game as I believe that he has got a real future at this level, for a big bloke he is extremely quick and agile and can get away with playing on forwards of all shapes and sizes, he offers great versatility

Smack, part of me would have liked to see Smack get another opportunity however his game last week was non existence....... I dont mind players having a below par game however you still need to find ways to impact the contest, with this in mind JPod can consider himself lucky however the club is obviously backing JPod's experience to bring out a much improved performance

LJ, well he divides the thinking on this board...... He looks good when our transition game is running and he is on the end of the chain however if the game is going against the tide he seems to struggle to have a say on the contest and there are some question marks on work rate. With that said I have no doubt that LJ's axing was also largely to do with structure changes and IMO if we are only going to play two talls up forward then we need to go with two genuine sized KPF......

In terms of Sydney

Considering no Tippett, no Goodes and that Buddy is struggling, Reid is a massive loss and also robs Sydney of needed flexibility and could open the door for us to double team Buddy if needed, Greg Bird has also been one of Sydney's better players over pre-season and gives the team genuine pace which may be further impacted if Rohan pulls out last minute, which I am hearing..........

Im pretty confident going into this week, the loss of Mumford has been significant as Pyke is really struggling to carry the ruck duties and this is reflected in Sydney ranking 16th for hitout to advantage and 16th for clearances across the first two rounds

What I would like to see personally:

Out: Crouch (inj)
In: Laird

Give Porps one final crack.

Missed it by that much, Agent 99.

Overall I really like the changes. What do all the ins have in common? They are hard nuts.

I suspect that Smack would have been dropped if he wasn't injured (I would have preferred Smack to JPod but we couldn't drop all three tall forwards.....yet). Hopefully bringing in Hartigan puts Truck on notice.

Not surprisingly they ignored Jarryd Lyons yet again. Sando likes the "concept" of Petrenko as opposed to someone like Jarryd Lyons who is boring and just gets heaps of clearances. Unlike many others, I remember how well Sam Shaw played in that brief phase of his career when he went for 2 months without an injury.

Officially Gone; Martin, Porplyzia, LJ, Graham

Watch this Space; JPod, Rutten, Reilly, Jaensch (NaBA), Petrenko, Mackay

Waiting in the wings; CEY, RAT, Charlie

Here's what I am hoping "The Bettrenko Brothers?".

I would love for LJ and Smack to be miked up during a game so supporters can ask them questions
Absolute bullshit that LJ is out and Pods remains.

As far as this week is concerned, maybe Sando is playing to win. Against the "softer" teams, he should be playing LJ ahead of Pods. Its the right move for our Club and the development of LJ, Pods may not make it to next year let alone to the mid season.
